[OVERVIEW]

Gothitelle carves itself a niche in the Doubles OU metagame as one of two viable Shadow Tag users, with the other being Mega Gengar. Over its fellow trapper, Gothitelle boasts better defensive stats, a better typing, the immediate ability to trap, and the ability to be used alongside another Mega Pokemon. Shadow Tag allows Gothitelle to provide excellent setup opportunities for teammates, aided by Gothitelle's its wide range of support moves such as Charm, Heal Pulse, and Helping Hand. Gothitelle also fills the role of a bulky Psychic-type Trick Room setter and general supporter, as its great support movepool allows Gothitelle it to assist a variety of teammates.

However, Gothitelle faces competition in this role (these roles? you mentioned two roles above) from other Psychic-types such as Cresselia, which boasts far better defensive stats and more reliable recovery in Moonlight. Gothitelle's pure Psychic typing (no hyphen) and low offensive presence leave it particularly weak to Pokemon which that greatly threaten Trick Room teams, (comma) such as Bisharp, Hoopa-U, Heatran, and Aegislash. Due to this, Gothitelle also faces competition from other Trick Room setters such as Hoopa-U, Jellicent, and Reuniclus, (comma) which can all alleviate some of these weaknesses. Gothitelle's poor Special Attack stat and limited coverage give Gothitelle it a very low direct offensive presence and (you could consider deleting this, as it's slightly repetitive) leave it especially vulnerable to Taunt.

Moves
========

Psychic is Gothitelle's strongest STAB move, doing dealing sufficient damage when hitting super effectively on super effective hits, (remove comma) but not too much otherwise. Trick Room allows slower Pokemon such as Gothitelle (maybe consider adding another example, since it's a little awkward to only list Gothitelle itself) to take advantage of moving first for a few turns. Gothitelle has a wide range of support options that are effective on this set, which work, (or some other elaboration) with Helping Hand strengthening a partner's attack. Charm allows Gothitelle to greatly weaken the strength of opposing physical attackers such as Mega Kangaskhan or and Landorus-T, making them trapped liabilities for teammates to take advantage of. Heal Pulse is another defensive support option which that heals Gothitelle's partner by a healthy good (or another word that doesn't repeat "heal") amount. Protect is a vitally important move in Doubles, allowing Gothitelle to avoid an attack from taking damage or a Taunt while its partner takes whilst partners can take care of the threats. Omitting Protect to gain for another support move can, (comma) however, (comma) be a viable option on certain teams.

Set Details
========

A Sassy nature with maximum HP investment and 56 Special Defense (american spellings) EVs ensures Gothitelle will live survive a Modest Life Orb-boosted Dark Pulse from Modest Hydreigon. Furthermore, with the assistance of Sitrus Berry and 160 Defense EVs, this allows Gothitelle to live survive two Brave Birds from Adamant Life Orb Talonflame Brave Birds from full HP. The remaining EVs are put in to Special Attack to help maximize Gothitelle's offensive power and guarantee the 2HKO on standard Relaxed nature Amoonguss. 0 Speed IVs help Gothitelle to move first under Trick Room. Sitrus Berry offers limited recovery to Gothitelle, allowing it Gothitelle to stay on the field and provide support for longer. A ChestoRest strategy, with Rest being used over Protect, is another option to help Gothitelle instantly restore back to full health, (period to comma) allowing This allows it to recover the damage taken while when first setting Trick Room the first time so that it can be more easily set again later in the match. However, this does however force Gothitelle to lose Protect or a second support move, sadly.

Usage Tips
========

Gothitelle is best used mid-game, where when it can come in on Pokemon that which threaten Gothitelle's its team to trap and either KO or significantly weaken them. Getting Gothitelle onto the field via U-turn or free switches in particular helps conserve its precious HP Gothitelle's precious Hit Points and ensures that the opponent cannot switch out that turn, (comma) predicting a Gothitelle switch. After Trick Room is set, Gothitelle should mainly be using a support move or Protect unless there are it has trapped Pokemon such as Amoonguss that which you really need to attack with it. Gothitelle. If Gothitelle is running Charm, (comma) it should try to trap the opponent's physical attackers and use Charm to render them dead weight, giving Gothitelle and its teammates a chance to set up, attack, or set Trick Room safely. Even if Gothitelle is low on health a low amount of HP or crippled by status such as sleep, Shadow Tag alone is still great utility, and through the use of Protect and switching out if need be, (dash to comma) as the opponent cannot hard switch (no hyphen; this isn't a coined term, but I think it's okay?) out even on a turn when where Gothitelle leaves the field, (dash to comma) it can still be a great asset to its (remove apostrophe) team, further backed up by a support move-pool including the priority Helping Hand.

Team Options
========

Fake Out users such as Scrafty and Hariyama help Gothitelle to set Trick Room. Fighting-type Fake Out users such as the previous examples (don't think this is needed) can also hit the Dark- and Steel-types which that trouble Gothitelle, (comma) such as Aegislash, Heatran, Bisharp, and Hydreigon, (comma) for super effective damage. Scrafty, as well as other Intimidate users such as Landorus-T and Gyarados, also helps patch up Gothitelle's weaker Defense stat. In combination with Shadow Tag, these Pokemon can also be used for Intimidate shuffling to severely weaken the strength of the opponent's (move apostrophe) physical attackers. Gothitelle also appreciates partners which that can remove the Pokemon which that give it trouble, (comma) such as Dark-types, Heatran, and Aegislash work well with Gothitelle, with good teammates including Mega Camerupt, Hoopa-U, and Scrafty, who which all work well under Trick Room as well. Strong Trick Room attackers such as Mega Camerupt and Mega Abomasnow can take advantage of the reversed move order and appreciate while appreciating the support provided by Gothitelle. In particular, Gothitelle can trap Fire-types such as Heatran for other teammates to KO, giving Abomasnow a better time.

Set up Pokemon Setup sweepers such as Mega Kangaskhan, Azumarill, and Volcarona all appreciate the benefits of Shadow Tag, as Gothitelle can trap foes that opponents which provide easy setup (one word) opportunities, (remove comma) and can also trap and help remove or significantly weaken threats to the setup the Pokemon which threaten the set up user, such as by trapping Talonflame for Volcarona to attack unhampered. Using Heal Pulse is very effective for supporting these Pokemon's setup, with Azumarill especially appreciating the recovery due to Belly Drum's health cost. Weather setters such as Mega Abomasnow, Mega Charizard Y, and Politoed all receive large benefits from Gothitelle's ability to trap the opponent's weather setter and so win the weather war. This is particularly important for sun versus rain matchups, where the dominating weather can easily determine the winner of the match.

Other Options
=============

Taunt allows Gothitelle to stop Amoonguss from using Spore, while also making Aegislash vulnerable and preventing Heatran from using Substitute. Subbing and making Aegislash vulnerable. However, Amoonguss underspeeds outspeeds Gothitelle under Trick Room, making Safety Goggles a necessary addition. Safety Goggles by itself can be used on Amoonguss-weak teams, but Gothitelle greatly misses the recovery additional bulk (technically not bulk) from Sitrus Berry or ChestoRest. Foul Play allows Gothitelle to hit Pokemon with high Attack stats such as blade-forme Aegislash, Hoopa-U, Mega Kangaskhan, and Landorus-T for sizable damage, (semicolon to comma) but it further reduces Gothitelle's offensive presence against anything else. Colbur Berry allows Gothitelle to tank a single Dark-type attack, notably allowing it to live an Adamant Life Orb-boosted Knock Off from Adamant Bisharp, but reduces its overall ability to take hits. Mental Herb lets Gothitelle ignore a single Taunt, being most useful for guaranteeing Trick Room on the first turn, but it is the Trick Room set turn one. The drawbacks are being single-use and being less effective than other items in most cases. Tickle is a teams-specific version of Charm that reduces an opponent's Attack and Defense stats. If using Tickle, Psyshock should be used over Psychic as well due to its (remove apostrophe) higher damage output after a Defense drop. Fake Tears is another stat-lowering stat dropping move, which sharply lower's an opponent's Special Defence. This makes Fake Tears that is a great option for strong Special Attacker to support specially offensive partners such as Mega Camerupt and Mega Abomasnow, while also allowing Gothitelle to OHKO Amoonguss after the drop. Thunder Wave provides Gothitelle with a great single-target speed control move for non-Trick Room teams, however but Gothitelle is primarily used on Trick Room to so that it can use its support moves before foes can move. the opponent moves. Light Screen can be used to reduce the strength of special attacks to Gothitelle's team, but is more passive than other move options.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Typing Advantage** Dark- and Steel-type Pokemon such as Bisharp, Heatran, Hydreigon, and Aegislash take little to no damage from Gothitelle's attacks, with Heatran and Aegislash being quite free to use Substitute up. Dark-types in particular are a problem as because they deal massive super effective damage to Gothitelle, with Bisharp's Knock Off even OHKOing it, while being and are immune to Gothitelle's STAB attacks. Aegislash and other Ghost-types such as Gengar can hit Gothitelle super effectively and are also free to switch out of Gothitelle's Shadow Tag.

**Utility Moves**: Gothitelle's lack of direct offensive presence and reliance on support moves leaves it particularly vulnerable to Taunt, although however it can still hit some Taunt users, (comma) such as Keldeo and Terrakion, (comma) for decent damage. Taunting Gothitelle before it can set Trick Room turns it into a liability due to its (remove apostrophe) low Speed and minimal offensive presence. Opposing Fake Out users such as Mega Kangaskhan can stop Gothitelle from setting Trick Room on the first turn one. Breloom and Amoonguss both threaten Gothitelle with Spore while in and out of Trick Room respectively; (comma to semicolon) however, Safety Goggles can remedy this problem.
