I strongly oppose the idea of getting rid of the counter system altogether, as part of what makes ASB fun to me is (1) the idea that these mons are MY mons, that nobody else has exactly my very same team, and that I spent some time and effort building it up; and (2) the idea that I don't always have the very best mons for every given situation, so I need to make the best out of what I already have sometimes.
I don't see such an issue with periodic revisions to the counter system. As the content grows up (more RPs, more released Pokemon, etc.), the need for counters inflates proportionally. But this does not mean that we should "jump the gun" and shoot the whole system down altogether. This inflating system is totally fine and functional. I mean, just because inflation is beneficial to any economic system out here, does it mean we should get rid of money altogether? We just revise, again and again, our "interest rates" to adapt to the evolving nature of ASB.
