Happy 12th Anniversary Pokemon!

So... I'm surprised no one has mentioned it, but yesterday (Feb 27th) was actually the 12th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise (i.e., the day Red and Blue/Green were released in Japan).

Seems like the 10th anniversary was just yesterday...

Wow has it been 12 years already? Surprising. Having played the games since RB first came out here in England, the enduring legacy of Pokemon just keeps on surprising me.

Wow it has been quite a while. I guess I first played Pokemon nine years ago and remember my grade 2 teacher saying it was just a fad. Pokemon sure has showed her.

ugh, i remember first playing a friend's blue game 9 years ago at the end of lunch in like grade 9 :/

For some reason I kept thinking it was in March...

Anyhow wow, I remember almost 8 years ago when I first bought Pokemon. I started with a Venusaur and had this moveset:

Cut
Solarbeam
Mega Drain
Sleep Powder

...to think I took out Gary's Charizard by haxing Sleep Powder...wow the memories.

the first game using only blastoise lvl 90
the time i paid a kid a dollar to play his pokemon red for 4 minutes
stealing pokemon cards from younger kids (im not proud)

all good times

I was shocked 2 years ago when I found out a decade had passed since the release of pokemon.

However, happy 12th anniversary!

remembering the partly translated pokemon gold i played back in 2000-2001 with hoppip that knew 'cure'

oh the nostalgia...

Wow, I can't believe it's been 12 years already. That's amazing. Now I feel really old as I think about the past and remember when I first played Blue, lol. Brings back great memories. Congrats Pokemon.

i dont remember shit from the first time i played a pokemon game but i have some vague memories of bellsprout lol

anyway happy 12th anniversary pokemon!

I am right there with you on playing the Japanese Gold. I had no idea what to do about the Snorlax with no Poke Flute, when finally flipping stations I heard something resembling a Poke Flute! (but I had pokemon the month it came out in the US I am way cooler than you newbies!!)

I remember the first time I went to the mall and I got a gameboy pocket and pokemon red :), man I can't believe it's been 12 years already.

My thoughts exactly. We need another national tournament, especially since I'd like to meet a few more of you.

So I guess Happy Birthday Pokemon?

Beat me to the punch :x Anyway, HB packmen! I remember getting Blue back in '98 along with a gameboy pocket, and my brother got one as well with Red version. I can't believe I've owned or had partial ownership of 12 of the 13 handheld games (not including spinoffs), and 4 of the 5 console games :o

Hard to imagine I've stuck with pokemon for so long. I've only been battling for around a year, and I stopped playing it (since all my friends stopped) around 6 years ago, but I remember picking up the old yellow version or sapphire version every once in a while and running through the entire game on long car trips home... guess I never really let go of these games.

This makes me feel very old :(

o rly :kongler:

I'm reminded of the fact that I've been in a pokecommunity of some sort or other for virtually half of the life of pokemon. (And all along, I've never played.)

Wow, my only memory of playing RBY Pokemon is when I got past the first gym with my Butterfree, and my older cousin was over. But then he showed me that he was at the third gym and he already had a Wartortle. TT-TT

Well, happy birthday Pokemon!

Wow 12 years and lots of money ago!. Way to go Pokemon, while i am more used to the date it came to America. It's the third most important franchise of Nintendo imo.
