Hariyama can feasibly run Z-Belly Drum with Close Combat / Knock Off / Bullet Punch to become a fine late-game sweeper, taking advantage of its good bulk to find opportunities to set up against Pokemon like Rotom, Vaporeon, and Seismitoad. However, this set also has issues with Hariyama's poor Speed and must rely on Bullet Punch to make up for it, leaving Hariyama easily revenge killed by Pokemon like Braviary, Delphox, and Scyther that don't fall to +6 Bullet Punch. Hariyama can forgo Rest healing entirely and opt for a Toxic stalling set with Protect that lets it safely recover health with Leftovers, but such a set is much easier to wear down and more susceptible to status.
Checks and Counters

**Poison-types**: Garbodor and Weezing can easily switch into anything from Hariyama and use it as setup fodder for Toxic Spikes. Additionally, Weezing can cripple non-Rest Hariyama variants with Will-O-Wisp. Vileplume takes little from most of Hariyama's moves and can punish the usage of Close Combat with Effect Spore, although Heavy Slam and Ice Punch do a lot to specially defensive variants, with Ice Punch 2HKOing them.
**Fairy-types**: Choice Specs Diancie and Whimsicott have an easy time breaking through even Assault Vest Hariyama with their strong Moonblast. Comfey and Aromatisse can use Hariyama as setup fodder, with Taunt Comfey having a particularly advantageous matchup against non-Assault Vest variants because it can prevent them from using Toxic. Mega Audino easily takes Close Combat from either variant and can remove Hariyama's item with Knock Off, crippling its ability to sponge hits. However, all of these Pokemon fall to Heavy Slam from Assault Vest Hariyama.
**Psychic-types**: Slowbro easily takes any hit from Hariyama, fearing only a potential Toxic, and threatens it out with a potential Psychic-type move. Similarly, Slowking pressures Hariyama with the threat of super effective damage, but it must be more wary of Knock Off because of its worse physical bulk. Medicham can't easily switch into Hariyama, but it can easily OHKO Hariyama with Zen Headbutt with minimal chip damage.
**Flying-types**: Xatu is a solid defensive answer to Hariyama, not fearing Knock Off too much and slowly chipping away at it with Night Shade or potentially Psychic; however, it must be wary of Stone Edge. Golbat take little from anything Hariyama uses, although it doesn't want to lose its Eviolite to Knock Off, as this leaves it more prone to Stone Edge and Ice Punch. Although they struggle to switch into Hariyama, Pokemon like Braviary, Vivillon, and Scyther threaten to either set up on or massively damage Hariyama with their strong Flying-type STAB attacks.
**Ghost-types**: Palossand and Colbur Berry Rotom are excellent defensive switch-ins to both Hariyama variants, as neither of them particularly fear Knock Off. Additionally, Palossand can continuously check Hariyama thanks to Shore Up, while Rotom can burn Hariyama with Will-O-Wisp and punish RestTalk variants with Hex. Decidueye and Dhelmise can pivot into Close Combat with ease and threaten to KO Hariyama with Sinister Arrow Raid and Power Whip, respectively.
