Heads up for the UK members

seeing the game only just released theres unlikely to be much competition

Almost everyone I know has had the game since Spring Bank (American import version from ebay) so there probabaly will be some competition.

The mew can only be downloaded onto a GBA game. Does anyone know what level he will be? - if it's level 5 with crap IVs then it's probabaly easier getting a hacked version from the GTS.

Probably overall though its a niche, I will be probably checking it out since even if I don't find a battle I'll still be able to grab a Mew.

And the important thing is this is a legal Mew, even if it does turn out pretty bad its still valuewise worth more than a good hacked Mew.

Yeah, I knew about this already from Havak. I've got some more info if you're interested, thanks to Havak and PKMN.NET.

Forum member Havak claims the 3rd August issue of the Official Nintendo Magazine will reveal details of a tour giving out Mew!
Excitingly, it looks like to go with English Mews, this time the tour will also visit Northern Ireland and Philland (known in some circles as Scotland)! Sounds fantastic to me - I've always wondered what Mew would sound like with a Scottish accent.
According to Havak:
  • You will need to take your GBA
  • You will need to take your own GBA Link Cable and/or Wireless Adapter. (Although to be honest, experience tells me there's always people there who'll you'll be able to borrow off anyway)
  • It's likely that the Mew will be a straight download, so you will most likely be able to take Ruby, Sapphire, Fire Red, Leaf Green or Emerald to get your Mew
  • There is still the possibility that the Mew will be obtained via the Old Sea Chart, ie Emerald only. But this is unconfirmed
  • Events will definately take place in August, some will be mid-week rather than weekends, seeing as it's the holidays
  • It's not known whether you need to be at a certain point in the game to recieve a Mew, but I'm sure we've all completed our GBA games anyway
The Toys R Us website has pretty much confirmed it's happening. The details:

  • The event is called Pokemon Summer Day Camp. Okay...
  • Play Pokémon Battle Revolution on Wii!
  • Get to play Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl
  • Learn to trade and battle with trainers around the world
  • FREE Mew download
  • FREE Pokémon Goodie Bag
  • Face Painting (Not likely for the older fans...)
And now *drum roll* the venues!

That leaves me with just over a week to train my new DP team unless I take my DS on holiday (To Tanzinia, should I?). Hopefully I'll be at the Oxford event.

Yup, 2 weeks to build a team to rock it out ;)

And I gotta get my advance generation team up too! Argh! *Rushes round*

Anyone else going to bristol? :naughty:

Hurrah!

I reckon I'll be hitting the Warrington one as I'm working on the 5th. Anyone else going to this? Hopefully I should have my team ready by then... just need to properly breed a Weezing and EV train them all.

Toby, I'm going to Swindon... probably :> I live close to both of them, but bristol is further away, so i'm not sure yet...

So I went along to the Leeds event yesterday. Picked up four different Mews including a Bold and a Calm one which should be usable after I teach them Hypnosis. I'll have a trading thread up next week if you want a clone.

The event itself was very well organised and run but obviously tailored for a very young audience with face painting and whatnot (I'm 24, lol). Plus there was no real hope of a challenge since D/P has only been out just over a week here (got my US copy ages ago obviously)

Had a battle with a random kid who had a lvl 34 Arceus (lol, what?) and turned his DS off after I swept three of his team with Gyarados >_<

I wanted to stay a bit longer to see if anyone who knew what they were doing would turn up but me and my girlfriend (who was trying to quietly enjoy her Harry Potter book) got accosted by a some woman who must have been about 45-50, had a nasty looking skin disease and was totally insane.

At first I assumed she must have been one of the kid's mums and just wanted a bit of light conversation with someone over the age of twelve but she went on to tell us how she'd spent £120 on a return taxi trip to get there (what's wrong with the train?!?), had spent over £1000 on Pokemon stuff that month and wanted to see if I had any shinys. She loved shinys. She went on to name almost every pokemon in sequence and ask me if I'd seen the shiny version of it. Trying to politely end the conversation didn't work, even looking away / talking to someone else didn't seem to curb her enthusiasm :/

We had to leave eventually cause she was creeping out my gf too much who I had to repeatedly assure afterwards that I was not going to turn into that woman XD

All in all it was a nice event and it was really uplifting seeing all the little kiddies loving the franchise so much but I'm a bit gutted I didn't meet anyone who'd been playing for more than about a week :/

Ah, I see they aren't even coming near Newcastle. That's a shame as they usually do these sort of tours around the Metro Centre. I'll have to pass on this one, but it's not such a big loss. Anyone who has saw the TV commercial for it will know that children are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite Pokemon. I don't think I could tolerate being surrounded by hordes of 6yr olds in Pikachu outfits. I'd start throwing Mega Punches, I think.

This was just for the Leeds one, dunno if it'll be the same for all of them...

well, seeing as I could easily walk to the Poole one (not that I would, I can drive), I can't see myself missing it.

What sort of stuff was in the goodie bag, or was it like the goodie bags that were promised for the 10th anniversary tour that didn't actually exist?

Is it a download or a trade?

It's a download so make sure you're saved at a pokemon centre and have a free slot in your party.

I have no idea; to get it you had to sign up and complete different 'activities' with the staff. Since I was about ten years older than the closest participant I couldn't really be bothered :p

Hmm. If its a download theoretically you could use a wireless adaptor and just download them via mystery gift yes?

Not if it's like the JAA. There, they took your cartridge, put it in their GBA which was linked to some device under the table (there was a tablecloth so you couldn't tell what was under there), and loaded the Pokemon up to it fairly quickly.

Our Toys 'R Us event in the US actually involved trading, which took about twice as long and was really annoying if you wanted to get multiple Mews.

You think a PAL GBA is required? I'm over from America for Reading festival, which coincides with the Reading event (coincidence?) so if this isn't an issue then it might be worth a visit.

Lol... there's not such thing as a 'PAL' gba since that refers to a type of analogue video. The gba's region of origin shouldn't matter since the console is essentially 'region free'. However there is a slight possibility that the game's region would lead to incompatibility as this was an issue with some gba titles. I'll bet you $100 it'll work fine.
