Hellstorm

Hi Smogon! This is my offensive team that I made focusing on SD Terrakion and DD Dragonite. I've been using this team a while on Showdown and it has worked well so far. However, I would greatly appreciate some input from you all.

The Team

Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Iron Head
- U-turn
- Fire Punch
- Ice Punch

Since Genesect was banned, I've been using Scarf Jirachi as my replacement. While it doesn't work quite as well, it gets the job done, with the added plus of being able to annoy people with Iron Head while doing decent damage. U-Turn is for scouting, Fire Punch is for taking care of steels like scizor, and Ice Punch is for revenging dragons. Jirachi often comes in on Hurricanes and such and then proceeds to either revenge kill with the proper move or U-turn out.

Landorus-T (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 244 HP / 64 Atk / 200 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-turn

Landorus-T is my physical wall and stealth rock user. With its EVs and intimidate, Landorus-T can come in on several different physical attackers, including Terrakion, Scizor, and Breloom, then proceed to set up stealth rocks. EdgeQuake gives great coverage, and are both decently powerful. U-turn lets me scout, and form a volt-turn core with Rotom-W, who Landorus-T has great synergy with.

Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 240 HP / 32 SAtk / 236 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Pain Split
- Will-O-Wisp

Rotom-W is such a great pokemon. It's typing has annoyed me several times when battling with my other teams. Therefore, I decided to use it myself! Rotom-W functions as my special wall, while also maintaining defensive synergy with Landorus-T, and offensive synergy with Terrakion and Dragonite. Both Terrakion and Dragonite are walled by Gliscor, Landorus-T, and Skarmory, both of which Rotom-W can deal with using Volt Turn and Hydro Pump. Pain Split allows me to regain health while damaging the opposing mon, and Will-O-Wisp helps me stop physical attackers that switch in. A very essential part of my team.

121.gif

Starmie @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Surf
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt / Hail
- Rapid Spin

Running Dragonite, I need to keep its Multiscale intact. Starmie is my rapid spinner, and it beats the DeoGar core (unless its Scarf Gengar, I hate those). Surf and Psychic are its dual STAB attacks, while Thunderbolt provides coverage and deals good damage to Jellicent and Gyarados. Also, after discovering that my team can be very weak to weather, and opted to use Hail instead of Thunderbolt to erase weather from the field. This restricts rain and sun teams, and gets rid of sandstorm damage which threatens Multiscale. Leftovers is used over Life Orb to provide a form of recovery, since Starmie isn't very bulky.

Terrakion @ Salac Berry
Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Swords Dance
- Substitute
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge

Ah, here it is. One of the best physical sweepers in the game right now. Terrakion can punch through teams with its amazing coverage in just two STAB attacks. Substitute is used before Swords Dance to block status and scout for attacks. The speed boost from Salac Berry helps me beat most Scarf users, barring things like Latios. I usually set-up on things like Blissey and Heatran, and if no decent Terrakion checks are left, the win is usually mine (providing the Stone Edge gods don't hate me). With stealth rocks up, Terrakion can 2HKO almost every OU pokemon, except Gliscor and Landorus-T, both of which Rotom-W can deal with.

149.gif

Dragonite (M) @ Lum Berry
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Fire Punch
- ExtremeSpeed

Dragonite is Terrakion's offensive partner. Multiscale allows Dragonite to tank several attacks, while setting up a Dragon Dance in the process. Outrage is for STAB and pure power, letting me run through teams without steel-types. Fire Punch is for dealing with most of those steel-types, like Ferrothorn and Forretress. ExtremeSpeed is a useful revenge killing tool, and it also allows me to defeat weakened mons that are faster than me. Lum Berry is useful for getting rid of status, which could otherwise ruin a sweep.

Closing
That's the end of my team. There are definitely flaws, and any sort of input would be greatly appreciated, so please rate!

Hey,

That's a really solid team you have there. First off, I'd like to suggest changing Fire Punch -> Trick on Jirachi. Running Trick over Fire Punch makes dealing with things that wall Terrakion/Dragonite easier. Trick also cripples a lot of Jirachi's main switch ins, like Ferrothorn, Skarmory and other physicall walls. Tricking those slow 'mons a choice scarf allows Jirachi to do more damage to the opponent too.

A big threat to this team is LO Toxicroak. It can outspeed Rotom, Landorus-T and Dragonite, while Terrakion can't do anything in return and Jirachi / Starmie get taken out by Sucker Punch. The best solution seems changing Landorus-T's ev spread so that it can outspeed Adamant max speed Toxicroak. To ensure it doesn't lose a lot of bulk, changing the Nature seems like the best way to go about it. Running a Jolly nature with an ev spread of 244 HP / 154 Def / 112 Spe is enough to outspeed Toxicroak. This will force Toxicroak into Sucker Punching which can't really do much to Landorus-T, while Earthquake easily OHKO's in return.

Lastly, don't run Hail on Starmie's 3rd moveslot. It doesn't make sense to run Hail on Starmie so it can shut off other weathers that threaten Dragonite's Multiscale, since Hail does the same. Thunderbolt isn't necesarry either, while Rotom-w can deal with Gyarados. Sub variants can be annoying but if you just Volt Switch to Landorus-T and then switch out it won't get any attack boosts and run out of HP eventually. Recover looks like a more fitting move. This way you can let Starmie take care of Keldeo, so Dragonite doesn't get damaged and keep it's Multiscale intact, making setting up easier.

That's about it. Hope I helped. Good luck!

Hey there

This team look nice overall, but it has a weakness to Lati@s, they can spam draco meteor on all your team bar jirachi, and starmie can outspeed them but it lacks of ice beam. I dont want to ruin the offensive nature of this team, so all i can suggest you is to change the spread of jirachi on something like this : EVs: 108 HP / 252 Atk / 148 Spd with a Jolly Nature, this will give you more bulk to tank draco meteor as well as enough speed to outspeed adamant salamance+1. Also, dont change fire punch on jirachi, because otherwhise sword dance scizor became more problematic, if you feel like tricking walls is necessary try to put it instead of ice punch. To help a little more against lati@s, you can put Thunder wave instead of will o wisp, this will let you cripple them since LO draco meteor wont ko. Thunder wave also helps stopping special threaths like Keldeo, Tornadus, Alakazam, Venusaur or Volcarona, and it doesnt miss.

Now i think you should change the spread on starmie, the main reason is that if you use 252 Hp on it you can take more hits from keldeo in general. While recover on starmie may ruin your offensive set, i think you should use it because its a great pokemon against Rainstall teams and without recover it will just die after some damages and you wont be able to spin anymore. You should change hail or whatever you had, also hail just dont work on starmie, people may expect it because this team is somewhat similar to The art of peer pressure, so they probably wont sacrifice their weather summoner for no reason.
Thats it, hope i helped!

Hey, nice team!

I tested this team a bit and have seen a couple of issues. Rain teams in particular seem really tough to beat. Also, if you don't run Hail you literally cannot beat Vaporeon and other Hydration users. It was tough to come up with something because your team is pretty balanced defensively and I didn't want to mess that up.

So I would suggest to make Starmie a Choice Scarfer in place of Leftovers with the moveset Surf / Psychic / Hail / Trick. It might look a little unorthodox but you do really need the Hail support, otherwise Rain teams have an easy time with you. Trick is for those pesky Hydration pokemon, and for anything slow and bulky that you're having trouble KOing, such as CM sweepers, stuff like SD Toxicroak, and walls. Starmie also outspeeds Modest Venusaur with the Scarf.

Now that Starmie is your revenge killer, Jirachi is free to use another moveset. I would suggest using a Calm Mind sweeping set with Wish so it can help support your team. Rotom-W can't take too many Hurricanes on its own but with Wish support it can keep on walling. Here is the set:

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 224 Def / 252 HP / 32 Spd
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt / Thunder
- Wish

As you can see, this set is using a really defensive spread, but you can opt for more Special Attack or Speed. The Speed lets you outspeed Tyranitar, and with Flash Cannon, you can make quick work of the overgrown lizard/dino. Max HP allows Jirachi to take full advantage of Wish. Flash Cannon is recommended here since you already have a Psychic user in Starmie. Thunderbolt is the more reliable choice, but if you're facing a lot of Rain teams then Thunder might be better for the 60% Paralysis chance.

Team looks great, hope I helped ya, best of luck! :)

@ala:I don't see how Rain teams have an easy time against this team.Between ScarfRachi,SpDef Rotom-W and Starmie as well as powerful sweepers like DDnite and SubSalacKion,he can deal with rain teams quite well.Scarf Starmie with that set is...is just terrible. Not only does he loses out Rapid Spin, scarfstarmie hits like an old lady. And with just Surf,Psychic with a base 100 SpAtk,Starmie can't touch 80% of the set up sweepers which needs a scarf user to be revenge killed by.By the way MisterNinja,If you do have trouble with rain teams, just change Starmie to a more bulky spread. As for Hydration users, you can replace Fire Punch on Jirachi for Trick.

Well MasterNinja can add Ice Beam or something for coverage, Stamie really isn't a bad Scarfer at all. It has the same 100 Stat in Special Attack that Jirachi has in Attack. Rapid Spin could go over Hail, although only Dnite really cares about hazards here. But yeah, your suggestion is a lot simpler, sorry for the bad rate.

Hey guys, thanks for all the rates!

@Eranu
Thanks! Trick > Fire Punch is not something I'm too keen about, because Fire Punch can be useful for Scizor and whatnot, but I'll definitely give Trick some testing. Also I think that Landorus-T spread would work quite well, so thanks for that too.

@Neliel Tu Oderschvank
Thanks for the rate! Lati@s can be problem sometimes, so I'll test out that Jirachi spread. Also, TWave > Will-O-Wisp was originally something I didn't want, but since most physical sweepers aren't really too threatening to my team, I think TWave will see some use. Also, 252 Hp / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd seems kinda lacking in power, but I'll see if it will work out. Thanks again!

@ala
Thanks for the rate! I actually have not had too many problems against rain teams because of Rotom-W and Dragonite (in fact, I think I have more problems with sun teams). Scarf Starmie seems kinda...awkward, and as of right now, I see Recover being more useful than Hail, but thanks anyway!

@White symphoni
Thanks for the rate! Like everyone else has been suggesting, a bulkier Starmie will see some testing, as will the use of Trick on Jirachi. Thanks for the advice!

Keep them rates coming guys, I greatly appreciate them!
