HGSS Megaspeculation Thread

The battle frontier doesn't look exactly like the platinum one based on the game screen shots. My guess is that they at least made the battle frontier a little bigger. They need to update the artwork though.

a little late but people were saying falkner coulnd't use roost because it's too hard for chikorita starters, well, what about that onix you can get? Doesn't he get rock throw like lvl 8 or something?

He could give you a Roost TM, but he doesn't necessarily have to use the move in battle. As I believe was stated before, Roark doesn't use Stealth Rock.

Edit: Hahaha google translator is great.
Frontier front of the place,
I have some more!
Work of teaching so that more
BP learn in falsetto!

HGSS Frontier won't be like Plat Frontier, people. They just reused the artwork because they're lazy.

I'm sure his Cranidos used it.

Both Roark's Onix and Geodude had Stealth Rock. I am sure Onix uses it if you are too slow.

I am sure the same thing would happen with Falkner IF he gives out Roost.

Oh, my bad then. I'm curious to see what they give him.

Oh god the Squirtbottle is shaped like a Squirtle..
And is that Park Ball our first new Poke Ball sprite?

I am going with Pluck or Roost. Gym Leaders usually give TM's that can only be obtain by beating them and Aerial Ace is actually not that hard to get multiples of (it is available via battle tower in platinum).

If they really were introducing a new Frontier, don't you think they would have had concept art before they even started programming it in?

Anyways, I have reason to believe that it IS the Platinum Frontier. If Heart Gold and Soul Silver keep the Battle Video system introduced in Platinum, then that means that it will be able to view Platinum videos, and Platinum will be able to view Heart Gold and Soul Silver videos. Because of this, they needed to use the same Frontier, to keep compatibility.

Regarding trainer sprites, Platinum would most likely always see Lucas/Dawn in battle videos, and Heart Gold and Soul Silver will always see Gold/Heart/Soul/whatever in battle videos, even those that came from Platinum.

roarks onix uses stealth rock. I just played him.

EDIT: Beaten. On topic, I think they should have brought back emerald's battle frontier. So much better than platinum's.

Johto's frontier is west of Olivine City, whereas Sinnoh frontier is on a tropical island (which Olivine City is not) so how could they be the same place? They could replicate each facility from Sinnoh and add new Brains I guess. Edit: This is unless by west of Olivine City they mean you can't a ship west from Olivine City to Sinnoh frontier? IIRC, there are not any pictures of Olivine City + the frontier yet.

An Emerald-esque frontier would be nice though.

Have you seen this?

http://www.pokemon.co.jp/special/hgss/introduction/other02.html

The first screenshot of that page is the beach west of Olivine, where the entrance to the Battle Tower was in Crystal. In the second screenshot, you actually see tropical trees like those in Platinum, and that's inside the Battle Frontier already.

The location isn't the same as the Frontier in Sinnoh, but it could have the same facilities AND brains as the one in Sinnoh. It would be, for all intents and purposes, as if you teleported to Sinnoh whenever you go to the Battle Frontier in these games. The map and NPCs inside could be different, but the purpose and location data would be the same as in Platinum.

agreed but I can tell you it wont be exactly the same as Pt. if you notice the third picture, it seems to be similar to the move tutors and other vendors in Emerald. Hopefully, if I am correct in the above assumption, we will have tutors that worked exactly like the Emerald ones.( Always that they were more reliable then the Plat tutors anyway, shard hunting is boring :P)

EDIT1: It would be great if we could get a translation of the text in that third picture, Please and Thank you.

The pic looks like 4 frontier brains and one battle tower.

Battle Tower still counts as a facility.

Yeah when Serebii first posted the info, he said 'new facility' so who knows! Maybe it is the same frontier (somehow) + new facility? But that wouldn't explain why they used the same artwork from Platinum (no new facility).

This is all so annoying, hopefully something leaks before September.

well not big fan of re-use frontier but i don't think a major site would make such a mistake or we're just misunderstand the purpose of the frontier pic anyway its possible being like kanto which house the frontier in the anime johto as well must house this frontier and they might want to make the game more anime like.and the idea of ubers in tourneys is a bit too much with every kid having mewtwo(if its able to be caught at LV 50) in there party but i know for a fact that hooh and lugia are going to have the sig moves in their respective games the moment you meet them but then again this is just 1 hype fan opinion.
(1st game was gold :-) so HG all the way)

And wy would roost be overpowered. There is no guarantee that it will be used. Wiona never aerial aced me in her match. so it isnt set in stone that he will abuse it like any intelligent human being.

Just wanted to add, wasn't everyone complaining how it wasn't difficult, and the one time a gym leader gets roost, people think it is to overpowered. I thought people wanted a challenge, and then they start saying it is overpowered.

By the time you reached Winona, you had some decent power behind you, for example your starter was probably nearing its final evolution, if it hadn't reached it already. And odds are your team had an Effort Ribbon's worth of random EVs. Whereas in the first gyms you're likely to not have starters evolved at all. And they wouldn't have too many EVs, so they'd be less likely to have random ones in useful stats.

In short: Imagine if, for example, Roark hacked Recover onto his Cranidos and you didn't have anything strong against it. That's close to what'd happen here, except Cranidos is a LOT scarier than Pidgeotto.

Also, as for the never using it part, were you using something that resisted it? Gym leaders aren't that stupid. I mean on my Platinum Gardenia didn't use Grass Knot once, odds are because it'd do crap to a Zubat (who actually swept the entire gym).

In addition:
I meant a reasonable way since its extreamly hard to have 6 decent level pokes in GS without use of a legendary.
Sure, your levels didn't get as high as others, but they didn't have to. I mean, when the final E4 Pokemon is only at Lv50, you really don't need to be that strong. And then the levels went down when you reachd Kanto. The big problem was the massive level gap between Blue's mid-50s team and Red's high-70s team and Lv81 Pikachu.
