How do you play the pokemon games? Do you play it with your friends? Do you keep it a secret? Is it popular where you live? Do your friends make fun of you? Let the Smo-world know!

Well, I've got a group of friends at school that I play with. Otherwise it's not too popular, and still regarded as a kids game.

it is definitley not a secret, and thers to guys at school who play it too.
oh and there are these people on this site called smogon, theyre pretty awsome too.

I bet you Toby, that not one person on these forums doesn't know about Smogon.

I have a few friends who play Pokemon and I've been seen playing it openly.

this topic comes up every month or so

nobody knows i play(ed) pokemon, i prefer it that way

Not coming out of the closet just yet, I know a couple of people who play at my school, although I don't think it would reflect well on me talking about EVs etc when I know for a fact one of their Charizard knows Dig.

I have 1 friend who plays the TCG. Apart from that some of my other friends know, but aren't really that interested.

I'm pretty open about it; in fact, I wrote a column for my school's newspaper last year about Pokemon that was pretty well received. Many of my friends play it, and I'll openly talk about it with them (although usually not the most competitive stuff, since many of them are more casual players).

Select people know, and even more select people play.

I have 3 friends that I play actual competitive with.

If anyone at school talks about it, I talk more casually. But if they think they can beat me, I start explaining EVs and shit and get them all confused.

Only one of my other friends knows. Convieniently, he used to play competitively too, so I can talk to him about competitive pokemon sometimes, though he doesn't play anymore.

Other than that, not that many people know.

well I don't really play pokemon much any more, but a few of my friends know about it and play it themselves

maybe I'll get back in it eventually, it gets kind of stale after a while

I'm talk about Pokemon competitively all the time with my friends, even though they aren't that competitive. I still ask and give advice, and I sometimes get good advice from them even they aren't competitive at all.

With people that I don't talk to (which includes most of the people that I see every day), well, they don't know I play Pokemon any more than they know anything about me really. If they asked me if I played Pokemon, I wouldn't hide it, and I've played my gameboy in class a few times as well. It's not like I'm ashamed of playing Pokemon, that's a very middle school-ish immature attitude to be honest.

It's so different at my school. The track team plays Pokemon like crazy, we go out really far (sometimes other states) for competitions. Usually we do 3 things on the bus, play cards, listen to music on loudspeakers, or play Pokemon. Basically the whole school knows that we play it, but no one has ever said anything about it (seriously who's gonna give the best athletes in the school crap about anything?) In fact I usually act like a jerk/little kid about it. I'll say something dumb like "because I'm a Pokemon master", whenever anybody asks me why I play. However, we really don't have much time to play now. As all the track people (now in XC football or soccer) get home like at 6-7 pm range. So really we only play after practice and on bus rides.

Just about everyone I know knows I play, because I used to be an administrator here and I used that fact when we would have nerd-offs. Nowadays I can't use that in nerd-offs anymore so the focus is more on competitive Smash Bros. :(

A shame too, because that's a great way to win every nerd-off.

I'm sad to say (somewhat) that I've never participated in a nerd-off, Surgo :(. Anyways, this pretty much sums it up for me:

(2:38:18 PM) kami (referring to my now-ex girlfriend when I told him that I'd talked about him to her): She knows what KIND of gaming forum it is, or are you only halfway out of the closet?

Thanks a lot. I just lost the game.
Why is there such an abundance of Pokemon topics lately in Congregation anyway?

I don't play much anymore. Played it with my friends again when DP came out. They play competitively too. My friend's the one who actually got me interested again.

My closest friends know but I generally keep it on the low amongst other people. Not because I'm ashamed or anything, it's just not something that I can drop into conversations.

I have a few Pokemon songs on my MP3 and during cross country training a few weeks ago I had the volume a little too high and one of the guys said "Is that Pokemon music?" to which I replied "Damn right" and we had a little laugh about it but I doubt he has any idea just how seriously I take Pokemon, heh.

Im 21, and theres a bunch of us that have more or less grown up with pokes since the release of red.
So, theres that group of 8 of us that play competitively (some more so than others).

At uni, there are a few that play in my course (medicine), but they are mostly the azns and strangely enough, the gay guys.
Im one of the few straight/non azns that play!

Pretty much all my real life friends know I play pokemon competitively, but only one (Cooper) plays as well. Though a couple of my friends recently took up the tcg for whatever reason...

Anyway, I'm not really ashamed of playing. Most people I tell have an initial "aren't you a little old..." reaction but forget five minutes later. Honestly I wish it were more popular at least at university, so I would have more people to discuss shit with. Oh well.

Not to many people know I play. A couple do. But nobody I know plays competivly. Most people I know still think its a kids game. *sigh* if they only knew.
