How do You Play the Game?

One person knows I play. And that will be all.

I'm sorry, I am not as strong as the rest of you who aren't ashamed to hide their love for the pogeymanz. I mean, if anyone at my school found out I played, I would be wrecked. I built up a moderate reputation, and it would be tore down by just uttering "I play Pokemon."

Maybe its a little shallow, but I don't care.

My girlfriend makes fun of me for playing :(

But seriously I don't really advertise that I do, but I'll tell people if they ask. So I guess I'm semi-ashamed of myself.

I try to keep my love for Pokemon secret, but the secret gets out sometimes (mainly in art class), and I only know two real life friends who play the game. Both of them are more casual, although one of them is aware of IVs, natures, and stuff (he just prefers to play it casually).

I wish I had someone or a group of people to play and talk about Pokemon with. Everyone's so into other games that they couldn't probably care less...

i'm one of those people that won't do anything against my morals, so when i choose to do something, i find no reason to be ashamed of it. i'm pretty open about it. if anyone says that i'm a baby or whatever, i just brush it off. they don't know what they're talking about. it's just a game, we're just enjoying the game mechanics. i don't worship ash or have a pokemon suit or anything. i'm not one to feel guilt just because society has a set way of doing thigs.

Well, there was a time, back in the day when pokemon was over its initial fad (middle school) I played pokemon casually and didn't want anyone to know. Once I matured, and high school came along, I decided to just be open about it and ended up finding out that alot of other kids played (and not the nerdy kids).

Actually, pokemon has kind of come full circle in my area. It is now popular in a retro way, and a lot of people play casually and talk about it very openly. I feel good knowing I was somewhat responsible for that. Though they don't play competitively, I still enjoy talking "casually" about it with my friends.

Diamond and Pearl did seem to bring some form of Pokemon revitalization after the GBA games. I was a major pokemon kid and I stopped at the GBA games... then got back when Diamond and Pearl was released. It does seem to have become much more popular lately.

I uh, I think some people may be overestimating how much of their reputation rests on playing Pokemon? I mean, we don't have quite the same high school culture as you Americans over here, but I don't feel any need to hide that I play - I don't make it my identity, but I'll talk about it freely in front of anyone, and most people know. I've introduced a few girls and guys to the competitive scene. Most people just think of Pokemon as a cool thign from their childhood, you know?

Are people seriously going to stop being friends with you if they find out you play a videogame? I'm genuinely interested, I can't imagine that kind of environment existing anywhere outside of afternoon TV shows aimed at tweens. It sounds like hell.

Well, I've got a group of friends at school that I play with. Otherwise it's not too popular, and still regarded as a kids game.

Got the same issue here. I simply laugh at how people can be so superficial, the game dynamics are far from being kiddish.

The game itself is extremely impopular where I live, since people are mostly sony fanboys, and prefer PSP to the DS. I am playing with a group of friends from other towns, but they're far from being competitive.

How I play the game?

I close the curtains, light up some candles, put on some Culture Club music, get out of my clothes, smear my whole body with marshmellow fluff, grab a can of Pringles and start up my DS.

Well we all do that, it should be a given.

I'm pretty much the only person at my school who plays competitively, and I'm pretty open about it. My mates tease me sometimes but that's all well and good.

I think everyone I know would be shocked and appalled if they learned that I stopped playing, lol.

My closest friends know but I generally keep it on the low amongst other people. Not because I'm ashamed or anything, it's just not something that I can drop into conversations.

I have a few Pokemon songs on my MP3 and during cross country training a few weeks ago I had the volume a little too high and one of the guys said "Is that Pokemon music?" to which I replied "Damn right" and we had a little laugh about it but I doubt he has any idea just how seriously I take Pokemon, heh.

It's "Damn Straight". Not "Damn right". :nerd:

It's neither a secret nor an announced thing. If someone asks what games I
play I answer Pokemon at some part. So if they won't ask I won't tell. Propably the reason
I'm one of the more liked people in HS.

I keep it a secret, though a handful of people know. Whenever someone outside of school laughs at me for playing a "kid's game," it is ironic that playing competitively requires more knowledge in mathematics than that person can comprehend.

I used to be quite open about it, but most people at my previous school thought it was kinda strange... so I decided to not let it show in public anymore.

Offtopic: @Calculus, your nickname reminds me of the homework I have to do ;_;

Thanks a lot. I just lost the game.
Why is there such an abundance of Pokemon topics lately in Congregation anyway?

I don't play much anymore. Played it with my friends again when DP came out. They play competitively too. My friend's the one who actually got me interested again.
i just lost the game as well.

I think 2 of my friends know i play, thats it

I keep the fact that I play pokemon a secret. Nobody here plays pokemon at all. I couldn't really care less if someone knows I play it, it just never comes up.

a lot of the guys in my neighborhood play but i beat them every time. one of my friends knows i play and is a fan himself but doesn't play competitivly

At my old school, only a couple people knew that I played Pokemon, and a few other people played it, but most of them weren't competitive. In high school (I'm a freshman), I haven't told anyone yet.

I don't keep it a secret because I don't really care what others think about me, but a lot of people like me anyway. None of my friends make fun of me and I hang out with a diverse amount of people so meh.

It's semi-popular in my class at least though, where almost everyone has played it at least once. However, I believe I'm the only person that plays it 'competitively' but one of my best friends at least knows about Smogon and competitive Pokemon.

I only have one friend who plays Pokemon, and we just played casually until I checked the game mechanics section for the first time and learned about EVs. Since then my friend and I.... Still play casually with our weak, no EV Pokemon (although we are starting on the competitive path). He's pretty much the reason I keep playing, and of course b/c one day I want to compete in the Wifi events here on Smogon.

And, I havn't played pokemon in a while until one day I picked up my gameboy color and started playing Blue, since then I've completely reawakened the fun times I had back in child hood... only now its like a sport 0_0.

BUMP.

Not everyone here knows "competitive" pokemon really, but they do know about pikachu, ash and the anime, and I tend not to say anything about pokemon here since they dont know anything about it..

This is me.

i'm very vocal with my love of the DS games. some people try to give me shit for it, but i'll have none of it.

i bought my siblings DSs for Christmas, so we're going to have some epic battles once they get the hang of it. :naughty:

EDIT: i'm 23, ftr.

EDIT: as a counter attack, whenever anyone tries to belittle me for it, i just start explaining the inner mechanics of the game until they realize they have no idea what the hell what they're talking about and tell me to shut up about it.
