How well do you think you'd fare against your own team?

Hey everyone, this is my first warstory, and boy is it a good one. It's between me and Lil Ant. I'm posting it here as it involves Revenankh. Without furher ado, here are the teams

Jonathan.'s team:

Lil Ant's team:

Notice anything...odd? That's right, we're using the exact same Pokemon! In fact, we're using the exact same moves and EV spreads too! A few hours ago, Lil Ant and myself built this team up from the ground together. A while later on the server, I'm looking for battles in the Find Tab and look who I run into. From the offset I could tell this would be a battle like no other. I mean, when have you ever faced a team that not only you know back to front, but are actually using yourself. Read on to find out what happens.

My comments are in green. Lil Ant's are in red. For clarity, when we both have the same Pokemon out, my Pokemon will be in green, and Lil Ant's will be in red.

Rules: Ladder Match, Sleep Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Evasion Clause, Species Clause, Strict Damage Clause
Jonathan. sent out Garchomp (lvl 100 Garchomp ?).
Lil Ant sent out Garchomp (lvl 100 Garchomp ?).

Even our line up is the same. Haha. Well we're both using a variation on the standard Scarf Chomp. Feeling daring, I go ahead and select Outrage. So does he.

Garchomp used Outrage.
Garchomp went on a rampage!
It's super effective!
Garchomp lost 100% of its health.
Jonathan.'s Garchomp fainted.
---
Lil Ant: = P
Jonathan.: no fair
Lil Ant: yes fair
Lil Ant: W-o-W better miss this time
Jonathan.: i'm gonna put 1 more speed point just to beat you
Jonathan.: :)
Lil Ant: )_)
Jonathan.: nah i won't
Lil Ant: i'll put 2
Lil Ant: to beat you
Lil Ant: !!!

Well, I'm down 5-6 already. This is actually the second time we battled. The first time I scored 98% with Outrage against his Chomp, (Outrage doesn't always KO because we've invested in HP/Def) and he then switched to Heatran and missed with W-O-W. So that explains his comment. Anyway, I obviously switch to Heatran at this point:

Jonathan. switched in Heatran (lvl 100 Heatran ?).
Garchomp used Outrage.
It's not very effective...
Heatran lost 26% of its health.
Heatran used Will-o-wisp.
Garchomp was burned!
Garchomp was hurt by its burn!
Garchomp lost 12% of its health.
Heatran's leftovers restored its health a little!
Heatran restored 6% of its health.
---
Lil Ant: BULLSHIT!!!
Jonathan.: don't get me started on bs
Lil Ant: = P

Thankfully W-O-W doesn't miss, and Lil Ant's not too happy about that. Now that Chomp's burned, I feel I can safely switch in Revenankh while he's locked into Outrage and start setting up using Bulk Up.

Jonathan. switched in Revenankh (lvl 100 Revenankh ?).
Garchomp used Outrage.
Revenankh lost 26% of its health.
Garchomp's rampage ended.
Garchomp became confused!
Garchomp was hurt by its burn!
Garchomp lost 12% of its health.
Revenankh's leftovers restored its health a little!
Revenankh restored 6% of its health.
---

Nice and sturdy :)

Lil Ant switched in Celebi (lvl 100 Celebi).
Revenankh used Bulk Up.
Revenankh's attack was raised.
Revenankh's defence was raised.
Revenankh's leftovers restored its health a little!
Revenankh restored 6% of its health.
---

This was pretty expected on his part.

Celebi used Psychic.
It's super effective!
Revenankh lost 42% of its health.
Revenankh used Bulk Up.
Revenankh's attack was raised.
Revenankh's defence was raised.
Revenankh's leftovers restored its health a little!
Revenankh restored 6% of its health.
---

Damn, Psychic does so much to Revenankh? I was truly surprised. We run 252HP/96SDef. And Celebi has no SAtk. Oh well, I might as well see how much Shadow Sneak can get me

Revenankh used Shadow Sneak.
It's super effective!
Celebi lost 41% of its health.
Celebi used Psychic.
It's super effective!
Revenankh lost 42% of its health.
Celebi's leftovers restored its health a little!
Celebi restored 6% of its health.
Revenankh's leftovers restored its health a little!
Revenankh restored 6% of its health.
---

Not bad, but now I'm at 30% health. I need to switch out if I want Revenankh to be of any use at all this battle. I switch in Starmie, relying on his resistance to Psychic and access to a Life Orb'd Ice Beam to scare Celebi off.

Jonathan. switched in Starmie (lvl 100 Starmie).
Lil Ant switched in Salamence (lvl 100 Salamence ?).
Salamence's intimidate cut Starmie's attack!
---

I guess he thought I'd stay in and sacrifice Revenankh. Hm. Well, it's still a favorable match up for me. I choose the predictable path and choose Ice Beam.

Lil Ant switched in Revenankh (lvl 100 Revenankh ?).
Starmie used Ice Beam.
Revenankh lost 23% of its health.
Revenankh was frozen solid!
Starmie lost 10% of its health.
Revenankh's leftovers restored its health a little!
Revenankh restored 6% of its health.
---

Nice bit of hax there :) I immediately switch to Celebi to start what could potentially be a CM Sweep. But having the same team as your opponent has its advantages.

Jonathan. switched in Celebi (lvl 100 Celebi).
Lil Ant switched in Heatran (lvl 100 Heatran ?).
---

He switches to Heatran while I switch to Celebi, and this act of prediction is before Celebi even makes an appearance in the match! Of course, he knew I had Celebi, but it's pretty cool when you think about it in my opinion. Now, I could switch to Salamence (as we don't run HP Ice on our Heatran) but fear W-O-W, I switch to Starmie instead.

Jonathan. switched in Starmie (lvl 100 Starmie).
Heatran used Will-o-wisp.
Starmie was burned!
Starmie was hurt by its burn!
Starmie lost 12% of its health.
---

No big deal for me.

Lil Ant switched in Salamence (lvl 100 Salamence ?).
Salamence's intimidate cut Starmie's attack!
Starmie used Surf.
It's not very effective...
Salamence lost 26% of its health.
Starmie lost 10% of its health.
Starmie was hurt by its burn!
Starmie lost 12% of its health.
Salamence's leftovers restored its health a little!
Salamence restored 6% of its health.
---

This was really stupid on my part. I should have known he'd switch, but I went ahead and used Surf anyway. He switches to Salamence, and I should have figured he'd switch again but:

Lil Ant switched in Heatran (lvl 100 Heatran ?).
Starmie used Ice Beam.
It's not very effective...
Heatran lost 5% of its health.
Starmie lost 10% of its health.
Starmie was hurt by its burn!
Starmie lost 12% of its health.
Heatran's leftovers restored its health a little!
Heatran restored 5% of its health.
---

Like a newb, I just click on whatever is super effective against the opposing Poke on my screen.

Starmie used Recover.
Starmie restored 50% of its health.
Heatran used Earth Power.
Starmie lost 33% of its health.
Starmie was hurt by its burn!
Starmie lost 12% of its health.
---

No problem for me though, as Heatran can't touch me. Except for the fact that I'm hardly restoring health, considering the HP I'm losing from the burn.

Starmie used Recover.
Starmie restored 50% of its health.
Heatran used Earth Power.
Starmie lost 37% of its health.
Starmie was hurt by its burn!
Starmie lost 12% of its health.
---

FYI, my Starmie's at about 30% health here...

Jonathan. switched in Salamence (lvl 100 Salamence ?).
Salamence's intimidate cut Heatran's attack!
Heatran used Earth Power.
It doesn't affect Salamence...
---

I switch in Salamence, who has EQ to deal with Heatran. But I finally get my act together. Expecting him to switch, I opt for Dragon Rush (a little experiment we're running, to see if the lower accuracy is worth the greater power).

Lil Ant switched in Celebi (lvl 100 Celebi).
Salamence used Dragon Rush.
Celebi lost 42% of its health.
Celebi's leftovers restored its health a little!
Celebi restored 6% of its health.
---

Solid prediction on my part.

Salamence used Dragon Rush.
Celebi lost 30% of its health.
Lil Ant's Celebi fainted.
---
Lil Ant: you won a speed tie that time
Lil Ant: >_>
Lil Ant switched in Starmie (lvl 100 Starmie).
Jonathan.: oh yea, i forgot they're tied
Lil Ant: all our pokes are
Lil Ant: lol

5-5. Celebi and Salamence are both at 280 Speed. So both our kills at this point came down to speed ties...interesting.

Jonathan. switched in Celebi (lvl 100 Celebi).
Starmie used Surf.
It's not very effective...
Celebi lost 20% of its health.
Starmie lost 10% of its health.
Celebi's leftovers restored its health a little!
Celebi restored 6% of its health.
---

I switch in Celebi, my best bet at this point really. I hope to deal some serious damage with Grass Knot, but:

Starmie used Ice Beam.
It's super effective!
Celebi lost 53% of its health.
Celebi was frozen solid!
Starmie lost 10% of its health.
Celebi is frozen solid!
Celebi's leftovers restored its health a little!
Celebi restored 6% of its health.
---
Lil Ant: = P

Damn, I needed Celebi alive! But I guess that makes us even. I can't let Celebi die, so I sacrifice Revenankh, who's basically dead at this point.

Celebi was defrosted!
Jonathan. switched in Revenankh (lvl 100 Revenankh ?).
Starmie used Thunderbolt.
Revenankh lost 15% of its health.
Jonathan.'s Revenankh fainted.
Starmie lost 10% of its health.
---

4-5. As far as I'm concerned, all that can really save me at this point is my own Starmie. Hoping that I win this god-forsaken speed tie, I switch in my own Starmie and hope for the best.

Jonathan. switched in Starmie (lvl 100 Starmie).
Starmie used Thunderbolt.
It's super effective!
Starmie lost 37% of its health.
Jonathan.'s Starmie fainted.
Starmie lost 10% of its health.
---
Jonathan.: gah
Lil Ant: this better be gg

3-5. I lose the speed tie, and I'm certain the game is over for me at this point. I switch in Heatran and hope for the best, as Salamence and Celebi have no chance of taking an Ice Beam.

Jonathan. switched in Heatran (lvl 100 Heatran ?).
Lil Ant: starmie will rape any team without Blissey
Starmie used Surf.
It's super effective!
Heatran lost 64% of its health.
Starmie lost 10% of its health.
Heatran used Earth Power.
Starmie lost 37% of its health.
Heatran's leftovers restored its health a little!
Heatran restored 6% of its health.
---
Lil Ant: wow
Jonathan.: we put a lot of sdef
Lil Ant: even takes a Life Orb surf

Damn, that sure is sturdy. Admittedly our Starmie has a very small investment in SAtk, but it's still pretty impressive how little Heatran took.

Starmie used Recover.
Starmie restored 50% of its health.
Heatran used Earth Power.
A critical hit!
Starmie lost 62% of its health.
Lil Ant's Starmie fainted.
Heatran's leftovers restored its health a little!
Heatran restored 6% of its health.
---
Lil Ant: = )
Jonathan.: haha
Jonathan.: i love this heatran

3-4. And it's my turn again for some luck :) I admit, without that crit the battle would have been Lil Ant's. But the amount of the match that has been left to chance on both sides so far has been off the charts, so I'm not feeling too guilty.

Lil Ant switched in Revenankh (lvl 100 Revenankh ?).
Jonathan. switched in Salamence (lvl 100 Salamence ?).
Salamence's intimidate cut Revenankh's attack!
Revenankh is frozen solid!
Revenankh was defrosted!
Revenankh shed its skin!
Revenankh's leftovers restored its health a little!
Revenankh restored 6% of its health.
---

Pretty predictable switch on my part, but there you have it

Salamence used Wish.
Salamence made a wish!
Revenankh used Bulk Up.
Revenankh's attack was raised.
Revenankh's defence was raised.
Revenankh's leftovers restored its health a little!
Revenankh restored 6% of its health.
---

I'm not sure why I used Wish, looking back. Maybe I thought he'd directly attack me, in which case using Wish was still stupid, as this Salamence is very defensive, and Shadow Sneak is very weak. Anyway.

Salamence used Dragon Rush.
Revenankh lost 31% of its health.
Revenankh flinched!
The wish came true!
Revenankh's leftovers restored its health a little!
Revenankh restored 6% of its health.
---

I quite like Dragon Rush actually. The accuracy hasn't been a problem for me so far. Anyway, this goes on for a few turns, with an occasional attack from Revenankh here and there:

Salamence used Dragon Rush.
Revenankh lost 29% of its health.
Revenankh used Bulk Up.
Revenankh's attack was raised.
Revenankh's defence was raised.
Revenankh's leftovers restored its health a little!
Revenankh restored 6% of its health.
---
Revenankh used Shadow Sneak.
Salamence lost 24% of its health.
Salamence used Dragon Rush.
Revenankh lost 23% of its health.
Salamence's leftovers restored its health a little!
Salamence restored 6% of its health.
Revenankh's leftovers restored its health a little!
Revenankh restored 6% of its health.
---
Salamence used Dragon Rush.
Revenankh lost 24% of its health.
Revenankh used Rest.
Revenankh fell asleep!
Revenankh restored 92% of its health.
Salamence's leftovers restored its health a little!
Salamence restored 6% of its health.
---
Salamence used Wish.
Salamence made a wish!
Revenankh is fast asleep!
Revenankh shed its skin!
Salamence's leftovers restored its health a little!
Salamence restored 6% of its health.
---

I know I'll lose if this carries on. So I hope Revenankh stays asleep a bit and prepare to pass a Wish to Celebi.

Jonathan. switched in Celebi (lvl 100 Celebi).
Revenankh used Shadow Sneak.
It's super effective!
Celebi lost 33% of its health.
The wish came true!
Celebi restored 50% of its health.
Celebi's leftovers restored its health a little!
Celebi restored 6% of its health.
---

Unfortunately for me, Shed Skin kicked in and he woke up after only one turn. If I recall, I'm at about 80% health now, so things are looking up for me. Sort of.

Celebi used Psychic.
It's super effective!
Revenankh lost 47% of its health.
Revenankh used Bulk Up.
Revenankh's attack was raised.
Revenankh's defence was raised.
Celebi's leftovers restored its health a little!
Celebi restored 6% of its health.
Revenankh's leftovers restored its health a little!
Revenankh restored 6% of its health.
---

I won't be able to 2HKO with Psychic, but I plan to do as much damage as I can, and let Heatran clean him up.

Revenankh used Shadow Sneak.
It's super effective!
Celebi lost 38% of its health.
Celebi used Psychic.
It's super effective!
Revenankh lost 43% of its health.
Celebi's leftovers restored its health a little!
Celebi restored 6% of its health.
Revenankh's leftovers restored its health a little!
Revenankh restored 6% of its health.
---

Revenankh's at about 30% health now. But it's time to say goodbye to Celebi now :

Revenankh used Shadow Sneak.
It's super effective!
Celebi lost 37% of its health.
Jonathan.'s Celebi fainted.
Revenankh's leftovers restored its health a little!
Revenankh restored 6% of its health.
---

2-4. Well, Celebi certainly took quite a few hits, and it didn't even use Recover the entire match. Not bad at all. Fortunately, I have Revenankh right where I want him.

Jonathan. switched in Heatran (lvl 100 Heatran ?).
Heatran used Flamethrower.
Revenankh lost 29% of its health.
Lil Ant's Revenankh fainted.
Heatran's leftovers restored its health a little!
Heatran restored 6% of its health.
---

2-3. Personally, I was very worried Lil Ant would switch in Salamance here, which would put me in a very uncomfortable situation (stay in and take the EQ, or switch to my own Salamence and die to Dragon Rush). Thankfully he didn't. Maybe he thought Revenankh could take Flamethrower. Maybe he didn't want to lose the three Bulk Ups he had.

Lil Ant switched in Salamence (lvl 100 Salamence ?).

Or maybe he just wanted to bring in Salamence in a clean way, without risking W-O-W or getting burned by Flamethrower. I suppose sacrificing Revenankh was his best move after all. Now I'm exactly where I don't want to be. Do I stay in and risk eating an EQ? Or do I switch to my own Salamence, trying to out-predict him, but knowing equally well that he could just use Dragon Rush in the hopes of nailing my Salamence. I decide to stay in, hoping to out-predict his likely prediction that I will not leave Heatran in. Boy that's confusing. I select W-O-W, in the hope that if I can pull it off, my own Salamence could take his Salamence's Dragon Rush.

Salamence's intimidate cut Heatran's attack!
Salamence used Dragon Rush.
Salamence's attack missed!
Heatran used Will-o-wisp.
Heatran's attack missed!
Salamence's leftovers restored its health a little!
Salamence restored 6% of its health.
Heatran's leftovers restored its health a little!
Heatran restored 6% of its health.
---

Huh. Well you can't imagine how happy I was that I had predicted correct, and how pissed I was that W-O-W missed. Of all the scenarios I had thought up, this wasn't one of them. Now it's back to square one. I'm sure he'll expect me to switch now, as he thinks I think he will use EQ now. So I stay in, hoping to pull off W-O-W this time.

Salamence used Dragon Rush.
It's not very effective...
Heatran lost 23% of its health.
Heatran used Will-o-wisp.
Heatran's attack missed!
Salamence's leftovers restored its health a little!
Salamence restored 6% of its health.
Heatran's leftovers restored its health a little!
Heatran restored 6% of its health.
---

WTF! What a retarded move, seriously. If W-O-W were to hit, the match would basically be mine (my Salamence would come in and Intimidate his Burned Salamence, giving him -3 Attack. His Heatran wouldn't stand a chance, and his Garchomp is burned). I'm no longer happy I out-predicted him. I'm just pissed that W-O-W missed. Twice. In a row. At a very critical point. I ponder my next move, and at this point I realize that my only real chance to win is if I can pull this stupid W-O-W off. So I resign myself once more to my crappy, inaccurate move.

Salamence used Earthquake.
It's super effective!
Heatran lost 24% of its health.
Jonathan.'s Heatran fainted.
Salamence's leftovers restored its health a little!
Salamence restored 6% of its health.
---
Lil Ant: lol

1-3. Well, he had to get it right eventually :P jk Lil Ant. Anyway, I switch in my final hope, my own Salamence. I actually do have a shot of pulling this off. If I win the speed tie against his Salamence, and if Dragon Rush doesn't miss against his Salamence and his Garchomp, then the match is mine. If I did the math right, that gives a 28% chance to win the match.

Jonathan. switched in Salamence (lvl 100 Salamence ?).
Salamence's intimidate cut Salamence's attack!
Salamence used Dragon Rush.
It's super effective!
Salamence lost 99% of its health.
Lil Ant's Salamence fainted.
Salamence's leftovers restored its health a little!
Salamence restored 6% of its health.
---

1-2. Strike one.

Lil Ant switched in Garchomp (lvl 100 Garchomp ?).
Garchomp used Outrage.
Garchomp went on a rampage!
It's super effective!
Salamence lost 65% of its health.
Salamence used Dragon Rush.
It's super effective!
Garchomp lost 75% of its health.
Lil Ant's Garchomp fainted.
Salamence's leftovers restored its health a little!
Salamence restored 6% of its health.
---

1-1. Strike two.

Lil Ant: bitch
Jonathan.: haha
Lil Ant: stupid W-o-W
Lil Ant: stupid crit
Lil Ant: stupid freezer
Lil Ant: stupid misses
Lil Ant: stupid Salamence
Jonathan.: we all had those...
Lil Ant: i know
Lil Ant: all of them are stupid
Jonathan.: kinda funny that way
Lil Ant: warstory this
Jonathan.: lol, for sure
Lil Ant: this battle was great

Lil Ant switched in Heatran (lvl 100 Heatran ?).
Salamence used Earthquake.
It's super effective!
Heatran lost 100% of its health.
Lil Ant's Heatran fainted.
Jonathan. wins!
Lil Ant: lol
Jonathan.: gg
Lil Ant: add commentary as well
Lil Ant: gg bro

And that's good game. Seriously, I've never had such a haxy battle where both sides were equally blessed and cursed. And facing your own team is...weird to say the least. It's a great experience, and really shows how good you are at prediction. Thank you Lil Ant for my most exciting match ever.

Props:
- Lil Ant for the amazing game.
- How cool is it to face your own team?
- My comeback :) I was ready to give up once his Starmie killed my Revenankh.
- Great Prediction on both sides.

Slops:
- To quote Lil Ant:

Lil Ant: stupid W-o-W
Lil Ant: stupid crit
Lil Ant: stupid freezer
Lil Ant: stupid misses
Lil Ant: stupid Salamence

But then again, the battle wouldn't have been half as fun and exciting as it would have been without all that hax.

me in him made the team together. The team is awesome as well. You may see some of our sets in the analysis, if they are worthy enough.

I would like an easier way to differentiate between whose Garchomp is out and whose Heatran is out (etc, etc) personally... Colours work well.

You should try out Wide Lens Salamence. Personally I was intending to use it for Draco Meteor with 99% accuracy, but it should work for Dragon Rush as well.
