I hope you all had a better Go Skateboarding Day than these guys did...

this is complete bullshit...im so angry right now! that cop better get fired or fined or something, though i highly doubt it since america is so fucked up.

* Kids break law by skating in a public place, creating both a nuisiance and a danger.
* Cop arrests kid.
* Other kid flees from cop.
* People protest?

Making sure I understand all this here...

Sure, the kids should not have been skating there, but I just think the officer far exceeded what was necessary for the situation.

american cops are really fucked up. i mean seriously, was that necessary? those kids were skating, not beating up random people or shit.

Being the resident law firm employee and criminal justice major, I'll offer my professional opinion when I get home to a computer that doesn't block video. What I do know is that the tape was getting shown on Headline News when I was eating lunch, and I didn't really pay attention but if it is making national news TV, something obviously went wrong somewhere.

I'd glad I only had to deal with the UK cops when I used to skate. At least they never arrested me for skating on the pathway. Or choked us on the floor. Or got young girls in headlocks.

Makes me wonder what they would do to some proper criminals if they caught them.

Besides, it's obviously slanted towards making the cops look bad anyway.

this is a god damned free country. there shouldn't even be a law against kids riding down the street on peices of wood.
and you apparently didn't see the video I saw. In the video I saw, the cop takes two kids and holds them in a full nelson. I hope that cop dies and burns in hell.

spoilers: 'free countries' still have laws

that's not to say I don't think the cop went a little far there but that was a terrible point to base an argument on

i dont even get any trouble with cops over here. if we do, its just "move on guys come on" and we go...mutual respect is the way! [although we go back after they leave if i need to land something xD]

I want to comment on the video but all I can think of is the spelling mistake on the thread title

Haha, I didn't even notice that until you pointed it out, my attention was distracted by 'Go Skateboarding Day' which evidently is a proper noun.

Free countries still have laws? Why shouldn't there be a law against kids riding skateboards on crowded fucking sidewalks, or should they be allowed free reign to crash into and injure people while they're on top of these "peices of wood"?

From the view of the video the cop was way outa line. He didn't give them any warnings he just slapped handcuffs on the kids. But no one really knows what happened before the tape started rolling. For all we know the kids coulda said something the cop to piss him off. Also the one kid that ran away was an idiot. As for the cop choking the original kid, who knows if it was needed, maybe the kid was trying to scramble out of his grasp pushing the cop away. But choking the girl and the other kid was out of line. By then he had taken it too far. But the cops actions aside, Law's against skateboarding is stuipid.

It seems like you don't care about punctuation though.

This post really pisses me off since you obviously don't get it. They were on the street for 1 of 2 reasons:

1. they were skating to a skatepark.
2. they were skating there because there's no skatepark.

i can't see anything wrong with either one, since it's not their fault they have to travel to a skatepark or don't have one at all. kids aren't fucking stupid, they wouldn't aimlessly skate down a crowded street into people. that cop was probably buying some doughnuts and needed a couple more arrests to meet his monthly whateverm, and decided to take it out on some people who weren't doing anything wrong other than getting some exercise and keeping themselves out of real trouble. you're safe from a tl;dr rant about narrow minded people like you and their views on skateboarding since im going out now SO CONSIDER YOURSELF LUCKY MAN, CONSIDER YOUR SELF LUCKY.

Dan, whether you admit it or not, Surgo's right. The first kid resisted arrest and the cop obviously had to cuff him. He broke the law and got arrested. Then, the other kids stood up for him but they got too close to the cop and were arrested.

I'm not saying that the cop didn't go out of line, because he did, but it doesn't change the fact that he was only doing his job whether it was harsh or not.

they could walk

2. they were skating there because there's no skatepark.
oh well

except the law was on his side? Even if that were the case, and he just "decided" to arrest some kids, he was still perfectly justified in doing so.

He seemed a little overzealous and intent on "teaching those damn punk kids a lesson," but he was in the right (as far as we know).
