General Introduce yourself!

Hey,

I'm here basically to play in OLT I guess, but I might have to drop out if I do make top 32 because I can't ever connect to smogtours for some reason.

Hello, I'm Carras. My first Pokemon game (and first video game at all, I think) was Leaf Green, although I would have to say that Emerald is my favourite game (mostly because of Battle Frontier). I have a PS account thing (using the same username) where I mostly play UU (especially UU Doubles) and Little Cup, but do also play some of the other formats (and plan on continuing to branch out). I decided to join Smogon mostly because I had quite a good chat with a guy on PS which made me want to get into the community. I also hope that being on Smogon will help me in competitive battling, something I am now getting into (after considering it for ages).
And as a little tail to this post, my favourite Pokemon would have to include the Treecko line (my starter on my longest, and possibly first, run on Emerald) and Mightyena (it makes me sad that he's not very competitive because I think he is very cool and majestic looking).

Hey man, welcome! That's cool that you are familiar with Showdown it will really help. If you are interested in Tours, see this link Here. As you've said OLT is going on, so you may want to wait for that to finish up. If you are looking for competitive resources, I'd suggest you go see Competitive Discussion. Here you can select your tier(s) and find many useful threads corresponding with it. Things like viability rankings, Sample Teams, Good Cores, and lots more. I'd also suggest you take a look into the SmogDex which holds all Pokemon Sets & Analysis. These analysis will contain things like: Pokemon EVS, Pokemon Move Sets, Usage Tips, Good Teammates, and even a list of Checks | Counters. Its a very useful tool indeed. Considering you have been playing awhile, I'd assume you have a set in stone team. You should really see the Rate My Team section of Smogon. There you can get constructive feedback on your teams. Also, a few rooms you may want to lurk on showdown would be: Rate My Team, Competitive Tutoring, Tournaments, OU, UU, RU, or any other tier room if you have picked up a new tier.
If you haven't already, I suggest you see the Smogon Info / Intro Hub. Here you can find many useful threads to get you introduced to Smogon more smoothly. We also have an IRC chat room, for newer players to come and hang with us, so feel free to stop by. Best of luck with OLT, hope you make use of these links and Smogon.

i know my way around, thx anyway!

Hey,

I've been a lurker for a while. I'm pretty familiar with the competitive scene and made an account to join Tournaments and contribute where I can. I've played Pokemon since Blue version, and started getting into competitive way back in late 4th gen. Took a long hiatus with 5th gen and am now back to hang out.

Hi Gua\/a!
Welcome to Smogon! I got introduced to Pokemon with Emerald a couple of years back. Ever since then I've been hooked to the franchise. I started competitive battling late, around the release of XY. I have played every generation (save for the first two), although not in order. Well, it seems like you know your way around the site, so I'll just direct you to where you can go if you have questions: the Smogon Simple Questions thread or the Simple Questions Simple Answers thread. I hope you have a fun time here!

Hey, everyone! I'm Summer, and I want to do more with competitive battling.

I've played Pokémon since I was 9... About 10 years now, with Pokémon XD Gale of Darkness. (Because of that, Eevee is my favorite Pokémon!)
I've always loved the games. When D/P/Pt came out, I started to hear a lot about competitive battles, but was never sure where to start.
I work a full time job now, so I don't have time to do much with the games anymore, but I won't let that deter me from competitive battling!

So, that's a little bit about me. I'll be floating around here getting information from time to time. See ya later!

Nice to meet you summer_rain96!
Welcome to the forums! I've played Pokemon for a couple of years and I've enjoyed every second. I started with Emerald, hence why Torchic is my favorite starter of any generation. Well, what tiers would you like to get involved in? When I started, I would play Random Battles a lot to get the hang of stats, type matchups, and that kind of stuff, and I've improved a lot! I now play 1v1 and Monotype frequently besides Random Battles. Some places to check out here at the forums are the Competitive Discussion forum and the Battling 101 forum. The Competitive Discussion forum offers several subforums for the tiers like OverUsed, UnderUsed, etc. while the Battling 101 is Smogon's very own Tutoring Program! Sign up as an apprentice in the next round if you'd like to learn about competitive battling from our experienced tutors. If you need any help during your stay here at Smogon, feel free to visit the Smogon Simple Questions thread, the Simple Questions Simple Answers threads, or the Help form. You could also PM me, Chesty or Fluke if you'd like. I hope you have a great time here!

Hola, I'm OrcaKing1738. I'm new to SmogON and Competitive battling at all. I've only done 2 wi-fi battles, both of which I won with my special Wormadam. (And in both, it was my last pokemon, and their last pokemon was Rotom-Wash. Talk about deja vu). Anyway, I hope I can learn more about competitive battling (and pokemon in general) through these forums and people!

Uh, hey. I'm Armoured. I've been on Showdown for a while (though my current account of the same name is new) but I've only now gotten around to making a Smogon account. Figured this'd be a good way to like, put my name out there and stuff. Hopefully the forums will help me become better at competitive battling.

I have this account for quite a while now, but never actually introduced myself? Well, that's a thing that happened.

Just might as well, give a little rundown of my "competitive experience":
2010 was pretty much my first experience facing someone, using a competitive team and as I, up to that point, never even knew about stuff like this existing, it should be obvious, how that encounter turned out. In fact, I only started caring about competitive play after the rise of X and Y, although it still took me untill a couple months ago, to actually get to a point where I stopped using random mons on my teams (although, my team building skill is still terrible). I'm also still in the process to learn more about the metagame itself (which is why I've been lurking the OU section for quite a while now). The same also applies to strategy execution during battles; ganted I'm well aware, that it's going to take a lot more than just a couple weeks or months, especially since I consider myself a rather slow learner.

Other things to say...well, let's just say, I'm way to serious for my own good.

Hey Smogon community, the names Nunu. I'm brand new to Smogon (treat me well senpai!) and i thought i'd give these forums a shot :) I've been playing Pokemon since Generation 3 (officially) and just started playing competitively with a small group of people in my town (back in the day) so from there my interest grew and i just love Pokemon. For 2-3years now i've been on a Pokemon hiatus due to me not having a 3DS but this changed recently so now i can get back into it. I'm still pretty new to IV breeding concept and probably need help on that but i definitely have a pretty solid grasp on EV training (really simple in XY). The games i've got on my 3DS are XY and Alpha sapphire, and also planning to get ruby soon too. I've been following and using the smogon site for awhile now (since diamond and pearl era) and i just thought this was the best time to join this awesome competitive community since it seems Nintendo is moving in that direction now (making the game simpler and less time wastage). So... after all that... NICE TO MEET YOU ALL!

Hey and glad you decided to introduce yourself:) I know from experience the best way to get better is to get familiar with the tiers and what Pokemon can have what move set etc...the best way to improve this is to constantly keep battling and battle more players. Smogon also has a place in the intro hub where new users can battle I recommend you go check it out:). I got into the competitive scene also two years ago and I have improved massively mostly by myself. However, my friend was able to help me get started. I would be glad to do the same and help you out with some stuff. If you go to mibbit and type in smogon there should be a chat room called shi. Also you can skype me and I can help you out as well as the other users in the Skype chat. I hope you enjoy smogon and if you need something feel free to message me.

Hi everyone my name is Glaceeeeon (4 e's) and I'm new to the competitive scene and I hope to learn some facts and things about competitive Pokemon.
thanks :D
also i need help on evs and ivs.. thanks

Hi everyone,

I'm Elix, nice to meet you all!
I started to play pokemon with Pokemon red in 1996 and i've played more or less all the next generations. With Gen V i've started my breedeer career, but i still don't know much about battling, so i hope to learn a lot by visiting the forum. I've already used the Dex many times to create pokemon ready for competitive battling for other players who don't like the breeding part. Now i would like to learn more so i can create sets for myself and others who may need them :)

Have a nice day :)

Hello everybody. I'm Abishkar1 and I've been around smogon for quite a time but just made an account recently. I live in Nepal and play mostly OU Doubles, Anything Goes, OU and Ubers. What actually brought me over here on smogon was it helps me learn many things that I possibly didn't knew and get a better understanding on the things I already knew. Thanks for your time, and I hope we can be friends :)

Hi Glaceeeeon!
Welcome to Smogon! Have you already found some tiers you'd like to get involved in? If not, I would recommend Random Battles to help you get the basics down, and then another tier like OU or UU for you to put your skills to the test. I would also advise you to take a look at our Battling 101 program. If you sign up as an apprentice, you can learn all about competitive battling from a tutor. You can ask any questions you have about EVs and IVs in the Smogon Simple Questions thread or in the ORAS OU Simple Questions Simple Answers thread. I can give you a quick overview, however. EVs, or Effort Values, increase any of a Pokemon's stats you train them in. In PS!, you can just select how many you'd like to add, rather than in in-game, where you would have to train them all the way. You can add up to 252 EVs (excluding natures, which increase one stat at the expense of another) to a Pokemon's stat. For example, you could add 252 EVs to a Pokemon's speed stat and its speed stat would increase by a converted value of 63. IVs, or individual values, determine a Pokemon's stats. Again, in PS!, you can choose how many IVs you want to add, up to 31 in each stat. As the Pokemon Wiki explains, a level 100 Tyranitar with 0 EVs and 0 IVs would have 310 HP, whereas with 31 IVs, it would have 341 HP. IVs determine Hidden Power type among other things. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask in the threads I mentioned above. Anyway, have fun around here!

Hi Elix1D!
Nice to meet you! I started Pokemon with Emerald a couple of years back, and have played every other generation except for the first two. I do plan on going back to Generations 1 and 2 sometime, but it depends... I started playing competitively at the start of XY, when my friend got me started with Pokemon Showdown. I've only just started breeding for egg moves in-game. It's not yet breeding for full competitive Pokemon, but it's a start! I use the Dex every once in a while to find a set for a Pokemon, and it helps me get a feel for what role each Pokemon has in the meta. I create my own sets often, but if I'm trying to fit a Pokemon in a specific role, I'll find a set in the Dex. Visit the Competitive Tutoring room in Showdown to learn about the metagame and competitive battling. You can sign up for the Tutoring Program I mentioned above, too, if you'd like. Otherwise, use the Questions thread or the Help form to get answers for your questions. Have a great time here!

Hello Abishkar1!
Great you decided to create an account! I usually tend to stick around the 1v1, Random Battles, and Monotype tiers, but I do often try out other tiers. I personally enjoy the Seasonal tiers; they're a fun twist every month. I came to Smogon a while ago, at first because I didn't fully understand the discipline system in Showdown. Eventually, some users helped me figure it out, and I left this account to gather dust, until fall of last year, when I rediscovered this place! Since then, I've made quite a few great friends, and I'm sure you will, too! If you need anything, don't hesitate to use the Smogon Simple Questions thread, the SQSA threads, or PM me, Chesty, or Fluke. Have fun, and I'll see you around! :)

Hello, guys!
My name is Celia (Yes, I'm a girl). I'm a long-time Pokémon player, but online play has never been my thing.

I used to play Shoddy Battle about 6 years ago, but I was completely terrible. Imagine someone who makes a good team, then blanks out in the middle of a battle and does everything wrong. That was me :P
However, I want to return playing, this time in Showdown. I'll need a good tutor to help me. Hope I can get one soon.

I really hope I can keep playing this time, make a lot of friends here and get to love this community ^^

Oh, btw, English is not my primary language, so I hope I don't make any serious grammar mistakes lol

Best Wishes

I'm Scomo.

I played Diamond and Pearl as a child; more recently I picked up on X at Christmas, but I fell off the wagon in the game post-story. Recently, a question came up on my mind again; is there a Pokémon team which is better than and capable of beating any other possible team?

I knew Smogon from a while back, so I looked it up; from what I've read, I take it the best Pokémon team is likely an uncompetitive one with a Mega Rayquaza, shitloads of OHKO moves, Swagger and whatnot, which is kinda frowned upon. Nevertheless, I tried Pokémon Showdown and I'm really damn impressed, so I'm going to go hard at that in the Uber tier and attempt to ladder.

  • Your favourite Pokemon: Mega Rayquaza, on grounds of power, even if it's hated for it. Aside from that, Mega Mewtwo X or Xerneas.
  • Are you on PS? Hell yes.
  • What you plan to do here: ladder to fuck.
  • Things you might need help with: Team-building and in-game strategy and tactics.
  • A little background info about you in real life, if you're ok with sharing that: I'm interested in politics and hip-hop.
  • Favourite Pokemon games: X and Y.

Hi welcome to smogon. I'm not a certified tutor but I can help out with some battling tips. I also have a skype group chat and the people in the group chat can help you out as well. Plus the battling 101 has a place you can go to get help from active tutors and there pretty nice. If you want to get better in pokemon battling you should be trying to play on pokemon showdown as much as possible. Smogon also has a pokemon showdown forum as well. Also there is a group chat on Mibbit. Go to mibbit and type in #smogon. Then go the bottom and there should be a group chat called Shi. People can also help you out in there as well. It took me two years to get decent at competitive battling and it was a interesting two year ride. Good luck on smogon.

I never actually played in ubers. I mostly play in OU UU and RU. I'm glad to see that your enjoying pokemon showdown. You should check out the smogon strategy dex for anything you may be confused on. Also smogon has a group chat for new users on mibbit. Type in #smogon on mibbit and look for the Shi group chat and people can help you out. Also you can message me over skype if you need help. All of my skype info should be in my signature. The best pokemon team well it really depends on skill level and how much you know about the tier. Even then if you know all of those that can become a stretch. It's pretty hard to build a consistently great team especially in OU. If you need something feel free to message me or Fluke or QueBien. Enjoy smogon.

Hi, thanks for welcoming me! I'll be sure to look for you when I need help. Sharing experience (though I have too little to share) is always a good thing. The group chats and showdown forum also seem to be very interesting, so I may look at them later on. And I'll be waiting for the next round at battling 101 so I can get a tutor.

And wow, 2 years? Now I know that I don't need to rush things. Competitive Pokemon is hard after all and any mistake will probably result in your defeat. I learned this the hard way. For now, I'll just focus on my goal of getting good at battling. Maybe in two years I can come back to read this post and say I truly made some progress. If you can, I'm sure I can too ;)

Hello, a new user. I mostly play in UU, but plays OU from time to time.
Welcome to smogon. My friend christian spends most of his time in UU and he actually helped me get to where I am in the competitive world of pokemon. I also like to play in RU and OU which I think are also great tiers. It took me a while to get really get somewhere in competitive battling to be exact almost two years.

http://www.smogon.com/dex/xy/pokemon/

That is the smogon strategy dex and I recommend you check it out. I used the strategy dex a lot when I was new and it has helped me out a ton. Also smogon has a youtube channel which is somewhat useful. Also if you go to mibbit you should check out the group chat Shi. Simply type in #smogon and you're good to go. Also I have a group chat on skype that I can invite you in. The people in the group chat can help you out with many things. My username on skype is andrew.0003. Feel free to message me or Fluke or QueBien if you need something or just wanna talk. I would prefer to do random talking over skype though because it's faster and more convenient. Hope you enjoy smogon.

OK here I go :)
I am FreaKzz aka FreaK (IG). I am 25 and have had my eyes opened to the competitive world of battling and has drawn my attention like little else has:). I haven't played honestly since r/s days, so I am very out of the loop with things. My favorite pkmn is by far gengar :). I havent actually used a forum in around 4 years so I have been pushed away from the community simply out of a fear of not being as adept at online communities as I once was but I am enthralled with my newfound goal of battle mastery, so I decided to jump in now! I have grasp on how evs work pretty well. I have a slight grasp on IVs but even less of a grasp on breeding. ORAS has inspirede to try and outlet my competitiveness via cartridge. I will admit although hace done nothing but read virtually every guide I can find to introduce myself to this AMAZING side of pokemon but still feel like I'm running into a wall of not knowing where to truly begin lol. However the harder it seems to be the more sucked in I am ge exctatic to be joining another community and be part of something I feel great!
