Introducing ... GrowthTran!

As soon as you plop a Pokemon dead with Fire Blast, Focus Band Infernape can Revenge Kill Heatran with Close Combat. Lol at needing maximum power to do unnecessary overkills. Timd w/Life Orb or Scarf is the way to go.

You've been told again and again... Almost any Standard Pokemon faster than it is a counter. If it then has a high power attack that is SE against Heatran and isn't Water-Type, it's a counter. There's plenty of those.

Honestly who use a focus sash or Focus banded Fire Monkey. You make the combo sound like horrible thing,Both pokemon by themselves work well they don't need each other to successful, but together do have some mutual benefits that thread mentions. You can easily abandon ship in setting up the process, with out hurting your team. Also Sleep Powder will end up being the the prefer choice on tangrowth,if you can't deal with put it to sleep.

No two poke will cover thing it always about that third and fourth pokemon and me personally i am all about trios and quintuplets.Seriously add CSmence to mix does that now look better,Heatran and Tangrowth are good foundation to build a team around.

Counters --
* Life Orb Variation -- Anything that is faster than it with Earthquake or Close Combat can kill it on the revenge kill. Nothing -- and, I mean, nothing -- can truly switch in untouched, with the exception of other Flash Fire Pokemon. With Life Orb, however, you can switch your attack to Earth Power.

* Choice Specs Variation -- The same as above, except you may end up OHKO'ing the likes of Cresselia and Gyarados, making sure they have no time for setting anything up.

* Choice Scarf Variation -- You will be faster than pretty much all opposing threats. The only things now that can do you in are other Flash Fire Pokemon. Fire Blast will 2HKO anything you come across, at the worst. You will have to switch out against opposing Heatran, Arcanine, Ninetails, and such. A fast Explosion in the later game, or a whopping Overheat thrown in at some point to OHKO some enemies, and you can switch in a lot even after your set-up does not work anymore.

Please don't bump your own thread without new content. This thread is pretty interesting but it's also four pages long already.

The first theoretical team I was satisfied about contained both of these Pokemon, because they cover each others' backs so well. However, I certainly didn't think of using this. My only qualm is that the title of this topic made me not want to read it, because I hate made-up names.

That said, both of these things are goddamn awesome.

You've gotta love his avatar, though...

Yeah. Heatran and Tangrowth were made for eachother. You've tweaked it just enough to take it to another level. What I'm interested in knowing is if some one can set up the rest of the team around these two to COMPLETELY eliminate weaknesses.

Thanks!

RD Kingdra is also a counter. Without Sleep Powder, Kingdra takes your special attack, wipes out Tangrowth with Ice Beam, and Surfs Heatran back to hell. Kingdra with Swift Swim already tops 400 speed in Rain.

Manafi can switch in on Heatran, and then either Rain Dance or Tail Glow sets will severely weaken the combination.

DDMence also gives both of them problems. Specsmence rapes Heatran with a well placed Hydro Pump prediction and Tangrowth can't do anything to it unless it has HP Ice.

DDragonite is in the same boat really. Dragon Dance/Dragon Claw/Earthquake pretty much ends both of them in the long run.

Weezing is definitely a good option, yes. I personally prefer Dusknoir. It is immune to fighting, and while it does not levitate, it has massive defenses. Weezing is just more defense, while Dusknoir covers the lack of special defense, as well. Then, just add a fourth member that can avoid Ground-attacks with some nice power, like a common dragon, Gyarados, etc.

The big problem with Weezing and Dusknoir is that they provide more Infernape weak, however Gyarados could then fit in nicely in fourth slot as it can take Fire hits and special Infernape is unlikely to carry Thunderpunch.

A long-since awaited bump, I believe.

I added several new things to the analysis, including a few new options, more talk about the Effort Value Spread, a new question addressing the problems with a physical variation, and a few other things here and there. For the record, GrowthTran, as stated numerous times around the site, was more of a title gimmick than "true name" to the combination, but yeah. Haha.

I definitely agree. I run Choice Scarf Heatran, myself. Not even Infernape can stop that thing with Close Combat. I have grown to like Gyarados a lot less than I used to, but it certainly does work wonders in the set.

With Choice Scarf, Fire Blast and Overheat in the same set is redundant.
With Life Orb, however, makes perfect sense.

Also, I think Swampert with EQ, Ice Beam/Physical Ice, Rock Move and Support move, might fit in nicely.

It is not redundant. In the early game, you want to use Overheat. In the late game, you want to use Fire Blast. If you get everything set up, use Fire Blast. If you do not and need a strong move, use Overheat. You really use both a lot.
