Introducing.... Tinkerbell V.2

dpmfa251.png

Celebi is rapidly climbing the usage chart in todays metagame as a staple defensive pokemon. However, I am proposing a more versatile Celebi set, capable of even beating down his biggest threats, while still providing team support.

I took this idea from a Tinkerbell set I saw on an RMT long ago, and have used it to great success, with a few general tweaks.

[THE SET]

Celebi @ Miracle Seed / Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Modest
EVs: 252 HP / 36 Speed / 220 Special Attack
*Leafstorm
*Psychic
*Perish Song
*Recover

Set Comments:

At first glance, you say WTF... Miracle seed? This Celebi is designed to combat its greatests threats, and still maintain a vital role on the team.
Leafstorm with Miracle Seed packs enough punch to OHKO Weavile, who will simply Pursuit you and get pwned. Leafstorm also scores a Likely OHKO on Tyranitar with Stealth Rock support, and still has a chance with Tyranitars with no defensive EVs. Leafstorm also has the benefit of 2HKOing Gyarados, who you can still counter reasonably well thanks to typing and HP EVs. Bulky Waters also stand very little chance, as Leafstorm will OHKO those cocky Milotics and Vaporeons who stay in for whatever reason.

Psychic is almost never seen on Celebi these days, mainly because he "doesn't have room for it." But Psychic allows Celebi to counter fighting pokemon completely, and nail cocky Gengars, Infernapes, and Heracrosses that switch in to your Celebi for free OHKOs.

Perish Song is an interesting option, but can really help with Leafstorm abuse, as things like Dragonite and Lucario will gladly come in to set up, while you just perish song to piss them off. This Celebi can act as your team's phazer, but is still left to the likes of Skarmory and Swampert. But Perish Song comes through in a pinch, and is a 100% answer to Curselax, and any other stubborn pokemon at the end of the match that just won't die.

Life Orb is an option for a better chance to eliminate Tyranitar in one hit, but I prefer Miracle seed, as the recoil is off-putting on a sturdy pokemon like Celebi.

This thread and movest is actually still a work in progress, but my initial testing of it as been outstanding. Some damage calculations are on their way, mainly for Tyranitar and company, but with Metalkid's errors can anyone recommend a better damage calculator?

Anyway... Discuss.

Well, some damage calcs could help. It weird that that celebi can nail Gengars, Infernapes and Heracrosses without a good speed stat. The only oppertunity to do this is when they switch in. Perish song won't make pokes go away if they've seen the other moves before you use perish song. I also almost never see a curselax.

I can attest to LO Celebi working pretty well, although I personally prefer Leaf Storm/Psychic/Recover/HP Fire. People tend to underestimate 100/100/100 defenses, and Celebi benefits from this by being able to deal out a surprising amount of damage while not being OHKOd by pretty much everything.

It's a good idea, and it works, but this has been done better already.

Why run Miracle Seed when you can run Wise Glasses which would also boost Psychic's power.
Both boost by 10% so I'd go with Wise Glasses.

Miracle Seed is a 20% boost, thus would give Celebi a better chance to OHKO Weavile.

Still, with Miracle Seed, there's no way any Celebi can guarantee neither the OHKO with Leaf Storm on 40 HP Weavile nor the 2HKO with Leaf Storm on Bulky Gyarados. This Celebi will need Life Orb in both cases.

...Again, I'm assuming that my calculator is right. I haven't heard any functional complaints about it. Still, there are other accurate calculators out there that can double-check. Check here for other calculator options that I know of.

Train Man, that's actually where I got the idea from... but added perish song and more offense. However, T-Wave + Rest is a bad idea, because when your faster because of T-wave and use rest, you still take a hit before you can switch out, so I think Recover is a better option as you can "scout" for full paralysis and finish off the enemy or switch out untouched. T-wave is certainly a viable option over perish song, and is actually what I tried before, but found perish song more useful.

Can anyone run damage calcs for Life Orb Modest Celebi vs. Weavile and Tyranitar?

I have the Weavile scenario outlined in my last post. (comfortable OHKO)

As for Tyranitar, Boah (252 HP) is OHKOed by Leaf Storm in Sandstorm ~20% of the time. CBTar (60 HP) is always OHKOed (minimum 100% damage).

Ah sorry. Serebii lies to me again :(

I'd like to see some calculations on usual switch ins. Maybe an example of how it works in the real thing not just theorymon.

Also, why 36 speed? What does that make it outspeed?

Perish Song is a bit of an odd option on this set IMO. Leech Seed seems like a better alternative, as Celebi won't be risking his life at all. Also, while these things set up, the damage from his attacks and leech seed damage will add up quickly. When they finally attack, spam recover and wait for their HP to dwindle down. But wait, that would make it a normal set. I stand by my comments though.
