Metagame Inverse

Tried queuing up with my Veil team and was stopped by the Light Clay ban... So I checked this thread and oh my God was I gifted with amazing news. Thank you for banning the broken monke

Edit: responding to the comment above me, why doesn't Terapagos Tera Shell ever activate in the first game?
Tera Shell is known to be bugged and a fix has been created, but not implemented.

Quick thoughts after some games:

:porygon-z: must go away honestly, it has 0 switch in and special walls get incapacitated after being Trick'ed. Scarf Tri Attack is no brain and it even could status you.
:Maushold: is at least border imo, it forces you to have some Rocky Helmet otherwise you have serious issues. Fast Encore is also a threat for slower walls that would like to use Iron Defense or similar stuff.
:Frosmoth: could be border as well. It can run Leftovers since it's not scared by SR and Ice Beam/Bug Buzz/Giga Drain touches everything.
:basculegion: how Last Respect is legal when Ghost has 0 immunities? Seriously it's a pain, kick it.
:avalugg: I think it's fine. Terrible SpDef and really slow so it's manageable.
also I forgot :serperior: : good speed tier, it just need Leaf Storm and the 3 other moves depend on what you need (Substiture, Glare, Leech Seed, Tera Blast etc.)

Okay with the bans implemented from the previous slates, we continue our game of Whac-A-Mole by having another vote!

Maushold, Porygon-Z, Baxcalibur, and Flutter Mane are all BANNED from Inverse!
Maushold was able to just spam Population Bomb and had good utility with Encore and a fantastic setup move in Tidy Up. Porygon-Z lacked any switch-in whatsoever and could even run Scarf to fix its middling Speed. Baxcalibur was usually checked by other Dragons, but those are scarce and a +1 Bax isn't something anything wanted to deal with. Flutter Mane is the fastest thing in the tier boasting an incredible 135 Speed tier alongside Booster Energy to make it nearly impossible to revenge killed this especially when it paired decently well with Indeedee, which provided Psychic Terrain support. All 4 of these Pokemon were on the radar before, but didn't really get to shine until the way was paved for them after the previous bans were announced.

Tagging dhelmise to implement!

Hello! Here to post some metagame thoughts no one needed

:palafin: This mon has some crazy calcs, after bear bans there is pretty much nothing to check it, 2hkos avalugg and Jet Punch shreds offense

:darkrai: Flutter mane but you trade some speed for your physical bulk to be existent, Dark Pulse Psyshock Ice Beam filler(probably NP) hits everything, I honestly see ebelt being almost as broken as flutter

:indeedee: Surprised this mon hasnt been mentioned at all yet, Psychic resists are literally non existent here, not to mention fighting types take 25% from rocks now so they cant even check it, tbh the only mon in the Good/Mid tier that can reliably beat it is chansey due to being able to sponge eforce and having enough physical bulk to tank psyshock decently, unlike blissey. Chans does get tricked scarf but w/e since indeedee is not that scary without scarf

:terapagos: yeah so I was wrong about this mon, definitely broken even w/o tera, snowballs incredibly quickly, the only factor making it even possible to beat this mon rn is the tera shell bug

Sorry if this is written horribly, cant be bothered to quality check at 12pm :<
:magcargo:

Half the month has already passed, yet broken Ubers (Landorus, Palafin, Spectrier) still aren’t banned. Besides maybe Chansey, what is walling Landorus and preventing it from Nastily Plotting on you? For Spectrier, do you really think Lokix or Ambipom can stop it when it can easily run Protect and immediately threaten an OHKO back?
Have fun running Avalugg when you get 2HKOed by a non-invested Ice Beam from Palafin.
0- SpA Palafin-Hero Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Avalugg: 226-266 (57.3 - 67.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Okay so we the council have heard the cries and decided to have another round of voting!

Indeedee-M, Indeedee-F, Palafin, and Spectrier are all BANNED from Inverse!
:indeedee::indeedee-f:
These 2 were banned strictly because they provided Psychic Terrain support for multiple teammates, but it was also difficult to revenge kill Indeedee with Psychic Terrain up and ultimately we can't BAN Psychic Surge as these are the only 2 users of it naturally.

:palafin-hero:
This monstrosity, as mentioned by InkyDarkBird as well as a couple others, has proven to be too much after the double Bear ban as well as just shredding any kind of offense with STAB Jet Punch. While it may not be as prominent on paper since you have things like Wellspring and Landorus, it had great power nonetheless and was banned unanimously.

:spectrier:
This thing kinda got overshadowed by Flutter Mane but still held it's own prior to the aforementioned's ban. While it did benefit immensely from priority protection with Psychic Terrain support, it was still a menace that could easily snowball its way out of almost any situation. That is why, even with a Psychic Surge Indeedee ban, Spectrier was banned as well.

====================================

I also wanna make a mini announcement that, with most bans out of the way, the council has plans to make a VR, and hopefully some new sample teams, over the last third of this month so we would appreciate any and all input here so that we can have a cohesive list for both by month's end. Thank y'all for sticking around and enjoying this OM. It truly means the world to me <3

I’ve been playing this tier all month and I think it’s wonderful, probably one of my favorite OMs up there with Inheritance and Sketchmons. The reverse type chart and focus on offense is very refreshing.

I’m sitting in the top 10 on the ladder, but my views on its balance are probably skewed, as I’ve been playing with a Trick Room team, which is by no means an instawin and quite tricky to build. I’ve had good success with it though, I’ll submit the team if you guys are looking for some new samples. Maybe you’ll like it.

For problematic mons, I personally find Fake Out + Last Resort Ambipom a pain (but again, I’ve been playing TR so take that perspective with a grain of salt). Chi-Yu’s STABs still seem very markedly strong for this tier, providing great neutral coverage and power.

Still, love it, love it, love it. 10/10 OM. Make it permanent, pls. <3

Congrats, dudes!

Here’s the Trick Room team I mentioned. It’s a fun time! I feel like the giraffe is really under explored in this meta. No joke, it doesn’t need to be on a dedicated TR team. Priority immunity is lovely, and this guy can just set up TR and go straight to work.

:hatterene: :torkoal: :Farigiraf: :Ursaring: :Mimikyu: :Rhyperior:

Pokepastes:
No nicknames
/W Nicknames

Sash :Hatterene: The old reliable Trick Room lead. Hat is Taunt immune, keeps hazards off and only loses to Fake Out or multi-hit moves. It sets Trick Room and offs itself with Healing Wish to grab momentum, usually so Torkoal can start spamming Eurption, or uses its great dual STABs to start hammering away at the opponent itself. Psychic and Fairy hit everything neutrally except Fighting types, and with Psyshock it can always hit on the weaker defense, so Hat is an immediate wrecking ball.

Specs :Torkoal: It’s got the lowest speed in the meta, so it just clicks Eruption and stuff dies. It’s a thing of beauty. It’s even more absurdly effective than in standard play since it hits bulky waters, rocks and dragons for SE damage.

Since the meta is so offensively oriented and frail, Eruption often just one shots resists, like Meowscarada, and hits Avalugg on its weak Sp. Def. Torkoal is also usually the Healing Wish recipient, so it can usually do it again later. Torkoal is also a great hit taking champ outside TR.

Flamethrower is for late game cleaning, if you’ve been weakened and used HW in something else. Solar Beam hits the stuff that resists fire like bulky Bugs and Grasses, and is just good strong, neutral coverage. Rapid Spin is for if your opponent somehow got past Hat and stacked some hazards.

Last note, Torkoal can also get cheeky and switch in on Abomasnow to prevent Aurora Veil. Nifty!

Throat Spray :Farigiraf:

Torkoal gets forced out by the omnipresent First Impression Loki’s and doesn’t like taking Fake Out, so a priority immunity first perfect. Armor Tail is a friggin amazing ability for this team.

The giraffe’s bulk and typing are amazing both offensively and defensively in this meta.

Hyper Voice hits through Substitues, a common TR counterplay, and activates Throat Spray. Psyshock hits the things that are weaker on the Defensive side, like Hat’s Psyshock. Nasty Plot lets you boost even more and outplay Protect and Substitute even harder.

Flame Orb :Ursaring: Hey, it’s just like Ursaluna, only a bit less good!

Unresisted Guts STAB Facade is simply bonkers, and it’s the only attacking move you need. Swords Dance makes it even more bonkers. Substitute lets you outplay Protect even harder, so you can get a bonus kill once TR goes down.

With this compact moveset already doing almost everything, what else could Ursaring possibly want? How about burning its only defensive checks? Fling lets it chuck its Flame Orb at Avalugg after it activates, making it so the glaciermon cannot out damage Ursaring and Rhyperior and will lose the war. Just make sure not to Fling it if you think you’ll want to Healing Wish Ursaring, as HW will heal its burn. Save it for endgame, in such cases.

Red Card :Mimikyu: Sometimes mid game, you face a heavy hitter or set up sweeper that Farigiraf won’t be able to tank and set up TR. With Disguise, Mimikyu can survive any single hit and with Red Card, set up sweepers and Sub users get forced out. STABs are offensive and having Ghost STAB to hit Normal types is quite nice. Curse is for killing itself to get the big breakers in for free, as well as chipping defensive mons, like Avalugg.

Covert Cloak/Loaded Dice :Rhyperior: The team was pretty solid as this point but still had some weaknesses to patch up. Strong multi-hit moves like Surging Strikes, Bullet Seed and Icicle Spear could break through Hat and Mimi. Farigiraf still had a lot of pressure on it to handle priority, namely Fake Out and Raging Bolt’s Thunderclap was a large problem since Torkoal’s Sun powers it up. Avalugg could also still be a problem, since individually it could potentially give both Torkoal and Ursaring a hard time. Finally, I just wanted another strong breaker!

Thankfully, Rhyperior handles ALL these issues in one tight package!

Rhyper’s physical bulk is amazing and Ground/Rock is a great defensive typing, 4x resisting Water and Grass, and 2x resisting Ice, Fighting, Ground, and with Lightingrod, an immunity to Electric that would otherwise be a weakness, so Earthquake and Swords Dance is obligatory for breaking. The last two moves are kind of mailable. Stealth Rock is just a filler move, but I found myself rarely clicking it. The last move should be a rock STAB, I used Rock Blast with Loaded Dice for another option against Subs, but then I found that Fake Out was still really annoying for this team, so I swapped to Covert Cloak with Rock Slide for flinchy cheesy goodness. I think I prefer cloak w/ Slide, since I still have two other options for Subs, and Rhy just kinda beats Serperior regardless by 4x resisting Grass. (BTW, why do these 90% accurate rock moves miss 100% of the time?)

Necrozma-Dusk-Mane should be banned. Trick Room Weakness Policy bait is far too strong with how many weaknesses Necrozma-Dusk-Mane gains, and Steel/Psychic becomes an amazing offensive combination. Most Pokemon can't even OHKO HP-invested Necrozma-Dusk-Mane, even with supereffective STAB moves.
