Lose a battle and you'll get it all back from bonus pool. Your rating actually doesn't change during periods of inactivity; only your deviation increases.
 
As iss said, bonus pool has decay fixed pretty much completely, so there's that.

More importantly, I've discussed it with em and we don't feel like we want to have ladder challenges until we are sure of what's wrong with PS!'s damage calculations for LC. If you're interested, you're allowed to help here.
