Is there really an alternate dimension?

I have been wondering ever since I started diamond and pearl, I kept thinking about alternate dimensions and the fact that the dead live in the opposite dimension.

Uh, an alternate universe perhaps. Dimension, no. A dimension refers to the geometric properties of something in it. Kind of.

Probably, but I've always seen dimensions as in the three space dimensions (up, down, left, right, forward, backward) plus the fourth unseen undiscovered space dimension, and the time dimension.

So it is like you are dead here, but you are alive there? But if you are alive here and you are dead there... Urgh my brain is now hurt.

If you believe string theory, we've got six more spacial dimensions, or seven, or however many they seem to need to have the theory make sense today. But they all loop back on themselves so they aren't very exciting.

Sure, it's a possibility.

Consider if we never developed spectroscopy, and all we knew of in terms of the electromagnetic spectrum was visible light. All other sources of waves from Radio and Microwaves to X-Ray and Gamma Rays would have been unknown but existent and present in daily life.

There could be infinite realities, but within each realities there are sets of blocks which prevent other beings from reaching us, and us from reaching them.

my serious answer (seeing as somehow this topic actually got a few serious replies) is that due to the causal nature of the universe, there is no way anything could be any different to how it is now unless some parallel universe started differently or adhered to different rules in which case it isn't all that 'parallel' but just different.

It seems that a lot of people on this forum spend a lot of time thinking about things that we simply can not understand.

Also, I would really appreciate it if someone helped clarify exactly what you mean by another "dimension."

The term "opposite dimension" is pretty ambiguous and kind of doesn't make sense. Isn't what you mean "another universe" or an alternate one?

the way i see it there are trillions of different dimensons each one a spin off of a choice in a persons life i.e you kill in self defense then there is another reality where you were killed then a reality where the killer went to jail then one where he got off free if im off on this somone please correct me

M-Theory states that we live in a multiverse of 11 Dimensions and that this multiverse is like a loaf of bread in that universes are slices. These Parralel Universes exist less than a millimeter away from us.

Also, these other dimensions are curled up into strings of energy when you work the math in 10 dimensions and stretch out into a membrane (or Brane) when you use 11 dimensions. ^_^

What you're talking about is not a dimension.

I'm still a little doubtful about M theory, but I haven't really been that educated on it other than reading a couple books.

But anyways, under M theory or under our reality of 3 spatial dimensions, it would be very doubtful that dead people are living in one of the dimensions.

I believe Hawking's "Information Paradox" was solved in that information that is eaten by black holes never disappears because Hawking suggests they are excreted into an alternate universe and the information is preserved.

Not only is this a horrible bastardization of string theory, it doesn't even make sense. Spacial dimensions do not "curl up into strings of energy", that doesn't even mean anything.

hahahaha i actually laughed when i read his post

anyhow, just posting to say that i find concepts like these absolutely unfathomable; i understand so little about the world and universe around me, and trying to deal with the idea of infinite potential realities is a bit too much for my little brain to handle

well, dealing with the prospect of them existing physically is the problem, cause after all, we all play out potential realities in our minds quite frequently

I thought string theory has nothing to do with the topic the OP posted. No one cares about these little massless vibrating thingies when dealing with an alternate reality in which dead people could exist (I am very uneducated in both quantum mechanics and relativity and I don't remember which one this infinite reality falls under, so correct me if I'm wrong).

I was under the impression that the OP meant, does an alternate universe(where there's only 4 spacetime dimensions and that's that) exist in which the dead people in our reality exist? And the answer is yes.

It can actually be both as the line between Science & Spirituality is blurring Mist Shinobi. Considering it was Mystics who kept saying that there is more dimensions than what we see.

@Surgo & Glen> I was going by memory there. I will say I forgot to mention that when you work the math in 10 dimensions, you end up with five different versions of String Theory. Otherwise, the universe is a Wonderland. ^_^ Have fun and don't bother chasing the white rabbit; he can go through all the walls in the room if you are not watching him.

Dead people exist in other "place"?, how so? they keep the memory of their original life/death, or are just like a mirror (for example i get killed my friend lives, in this opposite place he dies and i live).

I don't understand what you meant by it (OP and the others that said about this theory), i'm not familiar with this.

Kamex gave an interesting reply. Indeed his saying makes sense. I viewed it once the parallel dimension as the one where the dead live. Just like Giratina. But since kamex gave a good point this might be the answer I am looking for.
