Jirachi (Choice Specs)

I tested this set with a good feeling using CB Tar, Roar Vaporeon as teammates along with Spikes Stacking that Setsuna suggested. I must say this set far exceeded my expectations. This Jirachi is a real team player wearing down counters that your sweepers had have trouble with. Having no typing is really a blessing, i was able to hit gyarados, heatran etc. I tested with the main slash's you put on the set. Overall a great set, its too bad Doom desire wasn't explored earlier this gen.

I'm approving this as well. Definitely effective.

while im here, i might as well point out some things that i saw. Red means remove, Blue is replace / add.

Doom Desire is devastating, capable of creating giant holes in the opponents team. As such, it is required for the set. Thunderbolt or Grass Knot allow you to hit bulky waters. Thunderbolt usually does more damage, and has better neutral coverage, but Grass Knot lets you hit Swampert. A STAB move in the third slot is taken of your choice. Thunderbolt and Psychic provide Jirachi with good type coverage. Flash Cannon is another option, despite the lower Base Power, as it hits pokemon such as Tyranitar and Celebi. Finally, Trick lets limit the effectiveness of pokemon such as Blissey, as well as allowing you to use Doom Desire, and then attack.

Max Special Attack allows it to hit the hardest. 32 Speed EVs allow it to outrun Jolly Tyranitar. The rest are put into HP to increase overall bulk.

Finally, Trick allows one to limit the effectiveness of pokemon

Strong attackers that have bulk are great teammates: Choice Banded Tyranitar and Snorlax are great examples. They lure in strong physical walls, which can be broken with a choice banded attack with Doom Desire.

Wish Vaporeon and other wishers make great partners. Wish Passers such as Vaporeon make excellent teammates.

[SET COMMENTS]

Jirachi has one enormous advantage over other Choice Specs users: Doom Desire. This move has many benefits: lack of typing allows it to have perfect neutral coverage, while hitting two turns later allows it to help its team break walls by hitting twice in one turn. With Doom Desire, Jirachi can deal damage to Pokemon that would normally counter it, such as Heatran. With Doom Desire having perfect coverage, few things can take the 120 base power move coming off of 492 SpA.

Doom Desire is devastating, capable of creating giant holes in the opponent's team. As such, it is required for the set. Thunderbolt or Grass Knot allow you to hit bulky waters. Thunderbolt usually does more damage and has better neutral coverage, but Grass Knot allows you to OHKO Swampert. The choice for the STAB move in Jirachi's third moveslot is up to you. Psychic provides Jirachi with good type coverage, while Flash Cannon, despite its lower Base Power, hits pokemon such as Tyranitar and Celebi. Finally, Trick allows you to limit the effectiveness of Pokemon such as Blissey, as well as allowing you to use Doom Desire and then attack.

Max Special Attack allows gives Jirachi maximum attacking potential. 32 Speed EVs allow it to outrun Jolly Tyranitar. The rest are put into HP to increase overall bulk.</P

[Additional Comments]

To demonstrate the potential of this set, here are some damage calculations:

Thunderbolt vs Offensive Cune: 73.7% - 87.1% (2HKO, chance of OHKO after LO and SR)
Thunderbolt vs 188HP Vaporeon: 66.1% - 78.1% (2HKO)
Thunderbolt vs Scarftran: 46.4% - 54.8% (2HKO)
Thunderbolt vs 248HP Scizor: 49.9% - 58.9% (2HKO)
Psychic vs Bulky Gyara: 54.6% - 64.3% (2HKO)
Psychic vs 4HP Lucario: 96.4% - 113.5% (Chance to OHKO)
Psychic vs Dragonite: 69.7% - 82% (Chance to OHKO after SR)
Psychic vs 4HP Rotom-A: 78.8% - 93.4% (Chance to OHKO after SR)
Flash Cannon vs Scarftar: 105.3% - 124.6% (OHKO)
Flash Cannon vs 252HP TTar: 89.1% - 105.4% (OHKO after SR)
Flash Cannon vs Shaymin: 52.2% - 61.9% (2HKO)
Doom Desire vs Scarftran: 189 - 223
Doom Desire vs Scizor: 216 - 255
Doom Desire vs Gengar: 227 - 268

While Doom Desire is devastating, it has some downfalls. Magnezone easily counters this set, as it only takes an attack every three turns if it switches into Doom Desire, and resists Thunderbolt, Grass Knot, Psychic, and Flash Cannon. Dugtrio does the same, but is easily damaged by any attack but Thunderbolt and Doom Desire. Pokemon such as Snorlax, Blissey, and Tyranitar, who possess gigantic HP and Special Defense, take negligible damage. However, Tyranitar must be wary of Grass Knot and Flash Cannon. Although they cannot switch in directly, Infernape, Heatran, and Flygon carry strong super-effective attacks that will destroy Jirachi. Heatran has the advantage of having decent Special Defense, as well a resistance to everything but Thunderbolt and Doom Desire.

Bulky, powerful attackers are great teammates: CBTar and CBLax are great examples. They lure in strong physical walls, which can be broken with a choice banded attack with Doom Desire. Since this set will cause much switching, Spikes support is also recommended. Finally, as Jirachi and the bulky choice banders have no form of recovery, but can take multiple hits, Wish Vaporeon and other wishers make great partners. Roar Vaporeon gets a special mention due to its ability to abuse entry hazards, as well as the ability to hit a random poke on the opponents team hard with Doom Desire.

Nice set.

A note: Don't use abbreviations like "Gyara" and "TTar" in analyses, even if it's only in the damage calculation section.

That means the following things need to be edited:

"Offensive Cune"
"Scarftran"
"Bulky Gyara"
"Scarftar"
"TTar"
"Scarftran (again)"

i had a great idea for this set, adding onto the cbtar bit that various users spoke about

pursuit with doom desire - switch jirachi in on something that will run from pursuit, but isn't too scared of jirachi, like gengar. use doom desire, and switch in cbtar the next turn. pursuit - the opponent has to choose which pokemon will take heavy damage from doom desire. unless they don't switch but either way they die!! it's useful for luring in heatran and friends too

You need to format damage calculations in a special way; don't worry, I've done it for you. I also fixed the abbreviations you had in there, which really shouldn't be.

Like many others in this thread, I tried this set and I loved it, so I wanted to so something. And, no offense intended to the original poster or the editors before me, but the analysis seemed really wordy, so I thought that I could help there. I looked it over and this is what I came up with. Where I changed words, I just bolded my revisions, and where I felt that words should be removed, I put said words in brackets. This is my first revision, so sorry for any technical errors.

Another thought: I feel that Grass Knot should only be given a mention in the analysis, since Thunderbolt seems a vastly superior option. I left it for now, because that's a decision for players far better than myself, but it looks a bit ugly as is.

(I added firecape's threat list revision too, so thanks to him. I changed the X HP bits to HP/SpD since I prefer it, but the original is clearly fine too. I've got no idea what Dragonite that is, so I changed it to a 4/0 calc. I also put standard EVs on the last few since nothing was specified and I'm not sure if the Smogon Calculator does Doom Desire correctly.)

[SET COMMENTS]

Jirachi has an enormous advantage over other Choice Specs users: Doom Desire. This move has two important distinctions: perfect neutral coverage and a two turn delay. With 120 base power and 492 special attack, it's a powerful second attack on the turn it hits and helps tremendously against hard-to-break walls. Altogether, these traits make it the perfect attack on an opponent's switch to a counter such as Heatran, creating momentum and offensive pressure.

Doom Desire is necessary because of its devastating power, and is the key move of the set. Thunderbolt or Grass Knot hit bulky waters. Thunderbolt should be used because it does more damage and has better neutral coverage, but Grass Knot is an option to hit Swampert. The third slot should be a STAB move. Psychic is the primary option as Psychic/Thunderbolt provides excellent coverage, but in the same vein as Grass Knot, Flash Cannon can be used to address Tyranitar and Celebi. Finally, Trick limits pokemon such as Blissey and frees Jirachi to use Doom Desire and attack itself.

Max special attack is for power. 32 speed EVs outpace Jolly Tyranitar. The rest are put into HP for bulk.

Doom Desire vs 248/0 Scizor: 216 - 255

Doom Desire vs 4/0 Gengar: 227 - 268

While Doom Desire is powerful, it has several drawbacks. Magnezone [easily] counters this set, as it can trap Jirachi on a Doom Desire and resists Jirachi's other attacks. Dugtrio is something to watch out for because it can do the same, but is less of an issue due to its frailty. Pokemon with gigantic HP and Special Defense [take negligible damage], such as Snorlax and Blissey, can only be answered by Trick. [However,] Tyranitar is also a problem without Grass Knot or Flash Cannon. Any pokemon strong super-effective attack will destroy Jirachi, such as [from] Infernape, Heatran, and Flygon, but few such pokemon can easily switch in. Heatran is the biggest problem because it has good Special Defense and resists most of Jirachi's attacks.

Bulky attackers like Choice Band Tyranitar and Snorlax make great teammates. They lure [in] strong physical walls, which are broken by a Choice Banded attack and Doom Desire. Spikes are useful as well, because this set forces many switches. Finally, as this Jirachi lack recovery but can be quite durable, pokemon with Wish also make great partners. Wish/Roar Vaporeon gets a special mention because it takes advantage of Doom Desire and the entry hazards that benefit Jirachi.

Jirachi has one enormous advantage over other Choice Specs users: Doom Desire. This single move has many two distinct advantages: no typing allows it to have perfect neutral coverage; and a hitting two turns later delay. allows it to help the team break walls by hitting twice in one turn. With Doom Desire, Jirachi can fire it off and do damage to pokemon that would normally counter it, such as Heatran. With Doom Desire having perfect coverage, few things can take the 120 base power move coming off of 492 SpA. With a 120 Base Power Move coming off of a 492 Special Attack Stat, Jirachi can fire Doom Desires and damage Pokemon that would normally counter it, such as Heatran. Due to Doom Desire's delay, Jirachi can help the team break walls by causing the enemy to take damage twice in one turn.

Doom Desire is the crux of this set because it is devastating, capable of creating giant holes in the opponents team. As such, it was required for the set. Both Thunderbolt or and Grass Knot allow you to hit bulky waters; however Thunderbolt usually does more damage, and has better neutral coverage, but while Grass Knot lets you hit Swampert (Insert point of why Swampert is a threat.) . A STAB move in the third slot is taken of your choice. Thunderbolt and Psychic provide Jirachi with good type coverage. Flash Cannon is another option, despite (albeit its the lower Base Power,) as it hits pokemon that resist the Thunderbolt-Psychic coverage, such as Tyranitar and Celebi. Finally, Trick lets limits the effectiveness of defensive pokemon such as Blissey, and as well as allowings you to attack immediately after you use Doom Desire. and then attack.

Maximizing Special Attack EVs allows Jirachi to hit the hardest as hard as possible. 32 Speed EVs allow it to outrun Jolly Tyranitar. The rest are put into HP to increase overall bulk.

While Doom Desire is devastating, it has some its downfalls. Magnezone easily counters this set, as it only takes an attack every three turns if it switches into Doom Desire, and resists Thunderbolt, Grass Knot, Psychic, and Flash Cannon all of Jirachi's other attacks, and does not mind gaining a free Choice Specs from Trick. The same thing applies for Dugtrio does the same, but it is easily damaged debilitated by any attack other than but Trick, Thunderbolt, and Doom Desire. Finally, as since Jirachi (and the bulky choice banders) have no form of lacks recovery, but can take multiple hits, Wish Vaporeon and other wishers make great partners. Wish users, such as Vaporeon, are appreciated to let Jirachi and even the Choice Banded teammates be able to take hits. Roar Vaporeon , in particular, gets a special mention due to because it can phaze the enemy's Pokemon, increasing increased entry hazard damage, as well as the ability to hit forcing a random (and likely weakened) Pokemon on the opponent's team to be hit hard with Doom Desire.

Shouldn't the last three Pokemon in that damage list have percentages of their own as well? Can anybody confirm if Doom Desire works on the Smogon Damage Calculator?

Calcs would be convenient for an interested Jirachi user.

No, they should not be percents. Remember that the opponent you use Doom Desire against may not be the same Pokemon that Doom Desire hits later, but it performs the calculations for actual damage as if you always hit the initial Pokemon. For this reason, the raw damage is given.

Hey guys, sorry for being inactive for a while (gen 5 wut), but i'm going to put in all of the suggestions now

Jirachi may not seem like the best Choice Specs user around, but it Jirachi has one enormous advantage over other Choice Specs users: Doom Desire. This move has many benefits: The lack of typing allows it Jirachi to have perfect neutral coverage, while hitting two turns later allows it to help its team break through walls by hitting twice in one turn. With Doom Desire, Jirachi can deal damage to Pokemon that would normally counter it, such as Heatran. With Doom Desire having perfect coverage, fFew things can take the an unresisted 120 base power move coming off of 492 SpA. As if this weren't enough, Doom Desire is calculated with the Special Defense of the Pokemon it is used against, not the Pokemon it hits. This means that not even Blissey can switch into this special attack if it was initiated against something like Skarmory.

Doom Desire is devastating, capable of creating giant holes in the opponent's team. As such, it is required for the set. Aside from Doom Desire, Jirachi gets useful coverage moves for hitting certain opponents very hard and immediately. Thunderbolt or and Grass Knot allow you to hit bulky waters Water-type Pokemon. Thunderbolt usually does more damage and has better neutral coverage, but Grass Knot allows is especially useful for you to an OHKO against Swampert. The choice for the STAB move in Jirachi's third moveslot is up to you. Both of Jirachi's STABs are annoying to be locked into, but it is worth carrying one of them for the ability to sweep later on after walls have been broken. Psychic provides Jirachi with good type coverage, while Flash Cannon, despite its lower Base Power, hits pokemon such as Tyranitar and Celebi for major damage. Finally Lastly, Trick allows you to limit the effectiveness of Pokemon such as Blissey, as well as allowing you to use Doom Desire and then attack.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Max Special Attack allows gives Jirachi maximum attacking potential. 32 Speed EVs allow it to outrun Jolly Tyranitar. The rest are put into HP to increase overall bulk. A Modest nature powers up Jirachi's Doom Desire even further, and is well worth it despite the loss of a Speed-boosting nature.

[Additional Comments]

To demonstrate the potential of this set, here are some damage calculations:

Thunderbolt vs Offensive Suicune: 73.7% - 87.1% (2HKO, chance of OHKO after Life Orb and Stealth Rock)

Thunderbolt vs 188 HP Vaporeon: 66.1% - 78.1% (2HKO)

Thunderbolt vs 4 HP Heatran: 46.4% - 54.8% (2HKO)

Thunderbolt vs 248 HP Scizor: 49.9% - 58.9% (2HKO)

Psychic vs Bulky Gyarados: 54.6% - 64.3% (2HKO)

Psychic vs 4 HP Lucario: 96.4% - 113.5% (Chance to OHKO)

Psychic vs Dragonite: 69.7% - 82% (Chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock)

Psychic vs 4 HP Rotom-A: 78.8% - 93.4% (Chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock)

Flash Cannon vs Scarf Tyranitar: 105.3% - 124.6% (OHKO)

Flash Cannon vs 252 HP Tyranitar: 89.1% - 105.4% (OHKO after Stealth Rock)

Flash Cannon vs Shaymin: 52.2% - 61.9% (2HKO)

Doom Desire vs Scarf Heatran: 189 - 223

Doom Desire vs Scizor: 216 - 255

Doom Desire vs Gengar: 227 - 268

((You should not name the sets of the Pokemon you're calculating against, but instead provide the EV spreads for all Pokemon being hit. Offensive Suicune and Bulky Gyarados are not descriptive enough.))

While Doom Desire is devastating, it has some downfalls. Magnezone easily counters this set, as it only takes an attack every three turns if it switches into Doom Desire, and resists Thunderbolt, Grass Knot, Psychic, and Flash Cannon. Dugtrio does the same, but is easily damaged KOed by any attack but other than Thunderbolt and Doom Desire. Pokemon such as Snorlax, Blissey, and Tyranitar, who possess gigantic HP and Special Defense, take negligible damage, but only if they switch into Doom Desire directly. However, Tyranitar must be wary of Grass Knot and Flash Cannon, though. Although they cannot switch in directly, Infernape, Heatran, and Flygon carry strong super-effective powerful super effective attacks that will destroy Jirachi. Heatran has the advantage of having decent Special Defense, as well and a resistance to everything but Thunderbolt and Doom Desire, making it a fairly good switch-in as well.

Strong attackers with bulk, like are great teammates: Choice Band Tyranitar and Choice Band Snorlax, are great teammates. are great examples. They lure in strong physical walls, which can be broken with a Choice Banded attack with followed by Doom Desire's hit. Since this set will cause much a lot of switching, Spikes support is also recommended. Finally, as Jirachi and the bulky choice banders Choice Banders have no form of recovery, but can take multiple hits, Wish Vaporeon and other wishers Wish support Pokemon make great partners. Roar Vaporeon gets a special mention due to its ability to abuse entry hazards, as well as the ability to hit a random poke on the opponent's team hard with Doom Desire.

Pretty good writeup, but it lacked a lot of very important content and description that I had to add in. Additionally, I made a comment about your damage calculations that you need to fix before this will go on-site. When you have fixed these things, you can go ahead and mark it as done. I'll have it wait until the Jirachi (Update) is done, that way I can upload this alongside it.

Cheers.
