Just a VGC team...

I'm only slightly panicing about the VGC's coming up. Mine is the very first on and a week after I have nationals for something else so my time to really get this team is limited so I'm pulling out all the stops and kissing has much ass has possible to get this to work to get started ASAP. Well, here goes!

The Leads:

images

Jellicent (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Water Spout
- Taunt
- Ice Beam
- Shadow Ball

Which choice scarf Jellicent can outspeed a majority of the pokemon and smack them hard with Water Spout, which even if he get's hurt, it's all good. Ice Beam hits dragons and grass types which Shadow Ball hits other Jellicents and Chandelure if he's at lower health. Taunt is only there to shut down Trick room teams has I taunt on the first turn, and then switch.

Considered Changes:

No sir. This thing does so much work it's amazing. He's bulky enough to take a hit and strong enough to dish out massive damage.

Hydreigon (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Surf
- Protect
- Flamethrower
- Draco Meteor

With Surf, Hydreigon heals Jellicent which smacking the other two pokemon on their team. Very useful for keeping water spout's power up. Protect scouts the opponents strategy against the duo which Flamethrower hits steels and assorted. Draco Meteor was choosen >> Dark Pulse to OHKO other Hydreigons and Haxorus. I just never used Dark Pulse.

Considered Changes:

Maybe Dragon Pulse >> Draco Meteor if it still OHKO's Haxorus and Hydreigon has the drop in SpA is a pain in the ass. Other than that, no.

Eelektross (M) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SAtk
Quiet Nature (+SAtk, -Spd)
- Flamethrower
- Thunderbolt
- Protect
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Eelektross is the most predictable pokemon in the metagame. With not only respectable defenses, but the ability to go both physical and special, most trainers don't know who to expect when they see this guy. I like running the special one has he hits almost every poekmon SE.

Conisdered Changes:

Maybe running the physical one, but then I have 2 special regular speed pokes, and 2 physical trick room sweepers...

Conkeldurr (M) @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Protect
- Mach Punch
- Drain Punch
- Rock Slide

My goodness, Conkeldurr is a boss! I protect on the first turn to scout and get burned and react from there. Drain Punch heals up my health while Mach Punch allows me to finish off weak Pokemon. Rock Slide allows me to hit both of their pokemon which is helpful.

Considered Changes:

Not a one.

Final Comments:

I've hit a max of 62th (lol) on PO ladder board. Not good at all but eh. I don't have any major weakness but I feel two trick room counters is a little much. But then again, it is double battles.

Since you already have Conk and Tross I'd suggest changing your leads to Amoonguss and Reuniclus, taking the sets and evs off of their analyses, and making this a TR team whicvh I see working much better.

I'll be frank here, Jellicent is garbage. i used Scarf Water Spout in rain and 90% of the time it failed to KO anything meaning it became useless for the rest of the match. Hydreigon I like but it again can't OHKO a lot and works better on a team meant to support it.

Basic outline of the Amoongus, Reuniclus combo.
Amoonguss Rage Powders, drawing attention to itself, Reuniclus Trick Rooms. Reuniclus kills something, Amoonguss Spores the other. Reu attacks the sleeping poke, Amoonguss Spoers the new one (no Sleep Clause in VGC). Rinse repeat. Bring in Conkel and Elektross to clean if necessary.

Black, that's why I run Conkeldurr and Eelektross. Conkeldurr blocks sleep w/ flame orb and both become super fast if trick room is up.

Texas, just noticed, if I run Amoongus and reu, I have a gaping physhic and flying weakness. Not gonna fly. Sorry.
I disagree with you're comment on both Jelli and Hydreigon. 100% Water Spout may not OHKO, but Hydreigon heals Jelli with surf and finishes the other pokemon.

nice team, but protect on a scarfd pokemon??? Also 4 vgc team preview is on so your team will be much easier to counter, so you should add 2 extra pokemon that work well w/ team.

protect is kind of lacking. Maybe something like trick to derp trick room teams if I'm not going to use trick room.

I'm pretty sure I'm running a different Hydreigon... No dark Pulse and Surf and Flamethrower.

eelektross outside of trick room? not sure how well that works. also, get rid of protect on jellicent and change it to some other coverage move.

I rather like this team. It's pretty technical, each Pokemon covers the counters of another, seems like you really thought this through.

I definitely agree with putting Protect over Grass Knot on Eelektross. If you play it well, Protect can be useful on Jellicent for defense or for some mindgames, since you could probably trick opponents into believing Jellicent isn't scarfed if you Protect turn 1 and then immediately switch out. Admittedly though, that only really happens once in a blue moon. So here's where I stand on Protect on Jellicent: if you really don't think you'll use that fourth move no matter what you replace it with (which is likely since Shadow Ball and Ice Beam should suffice even after Water Spout becomes too weak), keep Protect. Otherwise, Hydro Pump is a reasonable alternative since it's stronger than all three moves.

Thanks for the rate Six!
I feel very proud you like this team has this is my first VGC team and well, you did get 10th at worlds in '09. Hopefully I see you there this year.
Grass Knot doesn't hit much outside of Seismitoad while protect would see a lot more usage.
Would something like Psychic work well on Jelli to hit Conkeldurr has I typicaly keep Jelli's health up to dish out a lot of damage with Water Spout.
