*Kingambit acts as a check to Yveltal, Arceus-Dark, Lunala and Giratina-O whilst also being capable of checking some variants of Extremekiller Arceus, Necrozma-DM and Ultra-Necrozma, threatening Knock Offs and Pursuit trapping where applicable. It can also act as a potential late game sweeper due to the combination of Swords Dance, a boosting item of choice, Supreme Overlord's potential 50% damage boost and Sucker Punch.
*Knock Off is Kingambit's strongest source of physical dark-type STAB whilst also providing a utilitarian role in removing the opponents held item, however Kowtow Cleave may be used instead for Knock Off absorbers such as Primal-Groudon, Primal-Kyogre, Giratina-O and Ultranecrozium-z Necrozma-DM as well as consistent damage as opposed to Knock Off's one-time high base power.
*Iron Head pairs well with this due to its complimentary nature against Dark resists such as Yveltal, Arceus-Fairy and Zacian-Crowned. Low Kick may also be ran in place of Iron Head for a stronger hit against Arceus-Dark, guaranteeing a KO against standard Calm Mind variants. Though this does come at the cost of being unable to OHKO Arceus-Fairy.
*Sucker Punch's priority makes up for Kingambit's low base speed whilst still hitting hard when boosted by Supreme Overlord, Swords Dance and Black Glasses.
*Pursuit is used in order to trap opponents such as Lunala, Choice locked Marshadow, variants of Necrozma-DM and Ultra-Necrozma and other potential dark weak pokemon. Swords Dance is used when Kingambit opts for a sweeping role, allowing for potential sweeps against frailer teams or late game sweeps against bulkier team styles.
*Black Glasses are used in order to boost the power of Kingambit's dark STAB without cutting into its HP, this also preferred as Kingambit tends to only use Iron Head against dark resists. Lum Berry may also be used to allow for a safer matchup into Ho-Oh
*Supreme Overlord is ran due to its damage increase in the late game, when most of Kingambit's teammates are likely fainted. On Swords Dance sets, the potential 50% damage increase allows for an further sweeping attempts even without prior Swords Dance boosts. This ability is ran over Defiant due to it's inconsistency due to reliance on having a stat dropped (not particularly easy aside from and defog) and inability to stack damage boosts as much as Supreme Overlord can.
*124 speed evs may be run to allow for Kingambit to outspeed Alomomola and Gothitelle. The rest of the evs are put towards HP in order to increase Kingambit's bulk. For example, offensive Ho-oh's adamant Sacred Fire goes from a guaranteed OHKO against uninvested Kingambit to 82-97% when running 128 HP evs. This, the lack of other threats that require further investment and other examples of hit-taking provide reasoning for this choice in ev investment.
*Tera Dark is used in order to boost Kingambit's damage potential further - particularly Sucker Punch as it tends to be Kingambit's preferred damage method against faster opponents in the late game. Tera Dark also has the benefit of removing Kingambit's Ground and Fire weakness, removing Primal-Groudon's OHKO potential with Precipice Blades. Tera Fairy and Flying may be ran as defensive Teras, helping Kingambit in matchups with Zacian-C, Marshadow and Primal-Groudon. Tera Fairy also provides an immunity to Zygarde's Dragon Tail, as phasing tends to be a common answer to sweeping attempts. Tera Fire may also be used in order to allow Kingambit to safely set up on Ho-oh as well as take Overheats from Primal Groudon, which OHKO's against neutral teras.
*Kingambit fits on more bulkier offensive teams as a utility pokemon, removing items with Knock Off and trapping with Pursuit in order to allow teammates with ghost and psychic related struggles to thrive. However it can also choose to take the Swords Dance route, acting as late game sweeper with Supreme Overlord boosts against a chipped team. Teammates carry pivoting moves that allow for Kingambit to get safely on the field are appreciated.
*Primal Groudon pairs nicely with Kingambit due to it being able to check Zacian-C and Ho-oh, both of which are reliable checks to Kingambit. It also acts as a method of hazard setting through either Stealth Rock or Spikes, allowing for the breaking of Focus Sashes and applying pressure on those without recovery.
*Ho-oh is also capable of checking Zacian-C and clears hazards, this greatly assists the recovery-lacking Kingambit. The ability to spread burns through Sacred Fire also helps Kingambit find opportunities to set up against the likes of Necrozma-DM, Rayquaza and Mega-Salamence. The chip damage provided by burn allows Kingambit to chip down those affected by it; Zygarde, Arceus-Dark and other problematic pokemon for Kingambit.
*Arceus-Fairy switches into Marshadow and Zygarde and is capable of crippling of both with Will-o-wisp or setting up on them with Calm Mind, allowing it to open holes in the opponents team for Kingambit to abuse later.
