[Overview]

Kyurem is one of the best offensive threats in the tier because of its high Special Attack stat, great offensive typing and coverage, and above-average bulk. Substitute variants can annoy and PP stall common answers like Clefable, Corviknight, and Ferrothorn for easier wallbreaking, while Choice Specs Kyurem is a near-unwallable, prediction-reliant wallbreaker that can easily bust through common defensive cores. Although its defensive typing doesn't help it much, it can pivot into some walls like Mandibuzz, Slowking, and Swampert and pressure teams by PP stalling with its near-perfect coverage behind a Substitute. Choice Specs Kyurem can also pivot into these walls. However, Kyurem's average Speed tier makes it susceptible to revenge killers such as Dragapult, which uses Infiltrator to hit it even behind a Substitute, and Tapu Koko, which has STAB super effective Dazzling Gleam. Kyurem also faces competition as a special wallbreaker from Tornadus-T, with its higher Speed tier, access to Nasty Plot, and more flexible coverage, and Tapu Lele, which can break through special walls like Blissey and Galarian Slowking more easily.

[SET COMMENTS]

Kyurem's great HP stat and two-move coverage, as well as its access to Pressure, let it use Substitute extremely well. The aim of this set is to stall out common checks' moves, such as Clefable's Moonblast, Blissey's Seismic Toss, and Ferrothorn's Gyro Ball or Body Press, to then outlast or overwhelm them. Substitute also blocks status from walls like Blissey, Toxapex, and Ferrothorn, and it can make Kyurem harder to revenge kill and pivot around for offensive teams once it forces a switch. Freeze-Dry hits Water-types like Slowbro, Slowking, Tapu Fini, and Swampert that would otherwise be able to sit in on Kyurem. Earth Power is the most common secondary attack to hit Steel-types like Heatran and Magnezone. While Heavy-Duty Boots is often Kyurem's best item choice to avoid entry hazard damage, from Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes primarily, other items can work alongside solid hazard control. Metronome stacks extra damage against specially defensive walls like Blissey, Clefable, and Toxapex to pressure them further alongside the PP stall, while Leftovers gives added longevity and extra synergy with Substitute—it also negates sandstorm damage against a common Kyurem check, Tyranitar. 56 HP EVs allow for 101 HP Substitutes, which are necessary to take and PP stall Blissey's Seismic Toss.

As a defensive set, Substitute Kyurem usually resides on balance or semistall teams alongside support to give it as many PP-stalling opportunities as possible. It appreciates Spikes or Toxic Spikes, usually from Ferrothorn or Toxapex, to chip down its grounded checks like opposing Ferrothorn and Tyranitar. Knock Off Tornadus-T can lure in and cripple Blissey, Tyranitar, and any Steel-types, removing Leftovers or Heavy-Duty Boots to augment Kyurem's pressure and stalling capabilities. Heatran is a great partner to check this set's common Steel-type checks, like Scizor and Ferrothorn, and trap other answers like Galarian Slowking and Blissey. Because it must continue stalling for long periods of time, Kyurem hates status conditions like Toxic and paralysis. Clerics such as Clefable and Blissey make good defensive partners for this reason.

[SET COMMENTS]

Choice Specs lets Kyurem become a powerful wallbreaker. Its extensive coverage covers every Pokemon in the tier with a strong unresisted move, and its Ice Beam can 2HKO almost any neutral target barring Blissey, Galarian Slowking, and Tyranitar. Focus Blast primarily hits Tyranitar and Blissey, as well as targetting Steel-types like specially defensive Scizor and Melmetal. Earth Power hits Heatran and other Steel-types for more reliable, yet often lower, damage, as well as Galarian Slowking super effectively. Draco Meteor can be used over Earth Power, but it is often less useful despite being incredibly strong. A Timid nature is an option to outspeed Excadrill, maximum Speed Landorus-T, and Timid Nidoking at the expense of some power.

Choice Specs Kyurem shines on bulky offense teams that can play aggressively to give it as many opportunities as possible to switch in and wallbreak. Especially due to its Stealth Rock weakness, it appreciates Defog users like Corviknight. Tornadus-T is a great offensive partner to lure in and use Knock Off on common specially defensive switch-ins like Blissey and Galarian Slowking, as Kyurem's wallbreaking job is much easier with constant chip damage on Blissey through entry hazards and Galarian Slowking's decreased special bulk. Faster pivots like Dragapult and Tapu Koko can freely pivot on forced switches to bring Kyurem in, helping out with its problems switching in safely. Lastly, Heatran creates a top-tier, near-unwallable core with Kyurem, trapping its most common switch-ins like Blissey and Galarian Slowking.

Icicle Spear can alternatively be used on Substitute sets alongside Freeze-Dry to pressure common specially defensive switch-ins like Tyranitar, Galarian Slowking, and Blissey and for increased PP over Earth Power for more Pressure stalling, though it comes at the expense of being walled by Steel-types. Icicle Spear + Dragon Dance gives Kyurem even more PP and pressure against specially defensive checks, and PP stalling common checks like Toxapex and Skarmory can lead to an easy sweep. However, the lack of coverage can make Steel-types difficult to force out without resorting to PP stall. Kyurem can also run Choice Scarf as a surprise answer to fast threats, but its susceptibility to entry hazards and difficulty switching in limit its utility.

Checks and Counters
====

**Specially Defensive Walls**: Specially defensive walls like Blissey, Galarian Slowking, and Tyranitar can switch into most Kyurem sets with little risk, although they fear super effective coverage from Choice Specs sets and Icicle Spear. Tyranitar in particular can pressure Substitute Kyurem heavily because of its multi-hit Rock Blast. Specially defensive Clefable is also a common option to deal with Substitute sets, although it has trouble switching into Choice Specs Kyurem reliably. Kyurem can break through them more easily, however, after slight chip damage from attacks or Knock Off alongside entry hazard support.

**Steel-types**: Specially defensive Steel-types, particularly Scizor, Aegislash, and Jirachi, are hard to break through because they resist Kyurem's STAB moves and can force it to switch.

**Revenge Killers**: Faster Pokemon like Dragapult, Tapu Koko, and Kartana can threaten Kyurem with strong super effective moves, forcing it out. Dragapult is especially potent because Infiltrator means it ignores Substitute. However, they have problems switching in, usually requiring a slower pivot like Blissey or Corviknight.

Kyurem's great HP stat, coverage, and ability in Pressure let it run Substitute sets extremely well. The aim of these sets is to stall out common checks' moves, such as Clefable's Moonblast, Blissey's Seismic Toss, or Ferrothorn's Gyro Ball, and outlast or overwhelm these checks after they are helpless with their PP depleted. In addition to helping stall turns for Pressure, Substitute is excellent at blocking status from defensive walls like Blissey, Toxapex probably worth mentioning as a large advantage to the set is taking advantage of Toxapex or Ferrothorn, and can also provide utility against offense teams by making Kyurem harder to revenge kill and pivot around. Freeze-Dry is an amazing STAB move capable of hitting Water-types like Slowking or Gastrodon Tapu Fini This might be a better example as it resists other Ice moves, is more relevant and actually damages Kyurem that would otherwise be able to sit on Kyurem. Earth Power is the most common secondary special Doesn't matter that it's special attack, hitting Steel-types and Poison-types primarily, like Heatran and Slowking-G, for super effective damage. Icicle Spear can alternatively be used to pressure common specially defensive switch-ins like Tyranitar and Blissey, and has more PP than Earth Power for more Pressure stalling, at the expense of being walled by Steel-types. While Heavy-Duty Boots are often Kyurem's best choice to avoid damage from Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes primarily, other items can be used alongside solid hazard control. Metronome can help stack extra damage against specially defensive walls to pressure them further alongside the PP stall, while Leftovers is used for added longevity and extra synergy with Substitute - it can also negate Sandstorm damage against Kyurem's common check, Tyranitar. 56 HP EVs is used for 101 HP Substitutes, which survive Blissey's Seismic Toss once before fading. 200 Spe EVs with a Speed boosting Nature outspeeds max Speed Excadrill.

Because of its defensive PP stalling nature, Substitute Kyurem usually resides on balance or semistall teams alongside support to give it as many opportunities as possible. It appreciates hazard support in the form of Spikes or Toxic Spikes, usually from Ferrothorn or Toxapex to help chip down its grounded checks like opposing Ferrothorn or Tyranitar. Tornadus-Therian can also lure Blissey, Tyranitar, and any Steel-types, removing Leftovers or Heavy-Duty Boots to augment Kyurem's pressure and PP stalling capabilities. Heatran is a great partner for Substitute Kyurem because of its ability to check its common Steel-type checks like Scizor or Ferrothorn, and trap other answers like Slowking-G and Blissey. Because of its reliance on staying behind Substitutes for long periods of time, Kyurem hates unreliability in the form of a status condition like Toxic or paralysis. Pivot Dragapult is another good offensive partner because of its ability to consistently inflict paralysis or a burn on common specially defensive Steel-types like Heatran or Ferrothorn. Kyurem also appreciates its ability to freely pivot on forced switches and bring it in with no risk, similarly to the aforementioned Flying-types. Lastly, Heatran creates a near-unwallable core with Kyurem. Its ability to trap Kyurem's most common switch-ins, including Blissey and Slowking-G, makes this duo one of the best offensive cores in the tier.

Kyurem can run Dragon Dance on its Substitute set to further pressure its specially defensive checks like Blissey. The increased PP from Dragon Dance and Icicle Spear also makes it easier to PP stall common checks like Toxapex or Skarmory for an easy endgame with a Dragon Dance sweep. However, the lack of coverage can make Steel-types annoying and difficult to force out without resorting to PP stall with Substitute and Roost. Choice Scarf Kyurem has been used a bit and might be worth a mention.

**Revenge Killers**: Faster Pokemon like Dragapult, Zeraora, and Tapu Koko can threaten Kyurem with strong super effective moves, forcing it out. Dragapult is especially potent because of its ability Infiltrator, making its attacks pass through Substitute. Kyurem doesn't really struggle with either of these, like i said earlier being able to easily ice beam Ferrothorn, though Choice Specs Kyurem may struggle with predictions around Heatran if you are able to get one turn right its easily manageable and Dragapult doesn't change that.

Icicle Spear can alternatively be used on Substitute sets alongside Freeze-dry to pressure common specially defensive switch-ins like Tyranitar, Slowking-Galar and Blissey, and has more PP than Earth Power for more Pressure stalling, at the expense of being walled by Steel-types. Kyurem can run Dragon Dance on this set with Icicle Spear to further pressure its specially defensive checks like Blissey. Kyurem can also run Choice Scarf as an unpredictable speed control option, but its susceptibility to entry hazards and difficulty switching in limit its utility.

Checks and Counters
====

**Specially Defensive Walls**: Specially defensive walls like Blissey, Slowking-G, and Tyranitar can switch into most Kyurem sets with little risk, although they must fear super effective coverage from Choice Specs sets and Icicle Spear. Kyurem can break through them more easily, however, after slight chip or item removal with Knock Off and entry hazards support from teammates. Specially defensive Steel-types, such as Scizor, Aegislash, and Jirachi in particular, are hard to deal with because of their resistances to Kyurem's STAB moves.

**Revenge Killers**: Faster Pokemon like Dragapult, Zeraora, Mentioned why earlier. and Tapu Koko can threaten Kyurem with strong super effective moves, forcing it out. Dragapult is especially potent because of its ability Infiltrator, making its attacks pass through Substitute. However, they have problems switching in and most often have to be switched in safely by a slower pivot like Blissey or Corviknight.

[Overview]

Kyurem is one of the best offensive threats in the tier because of its high Special Attack stat, great offensive typing and coverage, and above-average bulk. Substitute variants can annoy and PP stall common answers like Clefable, Corviknight, or Ferrothorn for easier wallbreaking while, utilizing Choice Specs, it turns into a near-unwallable prediction-reliant wallbreaker A "breaker" can either be a wallbreaker or stallbreaker, you have to specify that can easily bust through common defensive cores. Although its defensive typing doesn't help it much, it can pivot into some defensive walls like Toxapex or Mandibuzz Do you want to do this though? Toxapex can burn or Toxic it, and both can Knock Off its item and start to pressure teams by PP stalling with its near-perfect coverage behind a Substitute or hit hard with a Choice Specs boosted attack. However, its average speed tier makes it susceptible to being revenge killed by faster threats such as Dragapult, which uses Infiltrator to hit it even behind a Substitute, or Tapu Koko which can hit it with strong super effective moves. It also faces competition as a special wallbreaker from Tornadus-T, with its higher speed tier, access to Nasty Plot, Setup is something important Kyurem doesn't have and more flexible coverage, and Tapu Lele, which can break through special walls like Blissey or Slowking-G more easily.

[SET COMMENTS]

Kyurem's great HP stat, two-move coverage I see what you mean but generally think of "great coverage" involving more than two attacks, and ability in Pressure let it use Substitute extremely well. This seems to say what you wanted while making more sense. The aim of this set as the main set only has one option now is to stall out common checks' moves, such as Clefable's Moonblast, Blissey's Seismic Toss, or Ferrothorn's Gyro Ball or Body Press, and outlast or overwhelm these checks after they are helpless with their PP depleted. In addition to helping stall turns for Pressure, Substitute is excellent at blocking status from defensive walls like Blissey, Toxapex, or Ferrothorn, and can also provide utility against offense teams by taking advantage of forced switches, Something important IMO Substitute does making Kyurem harder to revenge kill and pivot around. Freeze-Dry is an amazing STAB move capable of hitting Water-types like Slowbro, Slowking, Tapu Fini, or Toxapex Toxapex doesn't really "sit on Kyurem" without Freeze-Dry, as it can't do anything to it back and takes considerable damage from Earth Power that would otherwise be able to sit on Kyurem. Earth Power is the most common secondary attack and is used to hit Steel-types, like Heatran and Magnezone. While Heavy-Duty Boots are often Kyurem's best choice to avoid damage from Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes primarily, other items can be used alongside solid hazard control. Metronome can help stack extra damage against specially defensive walls like Blissey, Clefable, or Toxapex to pressure them further alongside the PP stall, while Leftovers is used for added longevity and extra synergy with Substitute - it can also negate Sandstorm damage against Kyurem's common check, Tyranitar. 56 HP EVs is used for 101 HP Substitutes, which survive Blissey's Seismic Toss once before fading, which is necessary in order to PP stall it. It might not be obvious to a new player why you want to survive this.

Because of its defensive PP stalling nature, Substitute Kyurem usually resides on balance or semistall teams alongside support to give it as many opportunities as possible. It appreciates hazard support in the form of Spikes or Toxic Spikes, usually from Ferrothorn or Toxapex respectively Each can only set one of those hazards to help chip down its grounded checks like opposing Ferrothorn or Tyranitar. Knock Off from Tornadus-Therian can also lure Blissey, Tyranitar, and any Steel-types, removing Leftovers or Heavy-Duty Boots to augment Kyurem's pressure and PP stalling capabilities. Clerics such as Clefable or Blissey make good defensive partners for this reason.

[SET COMMENTS]

Choice Specs lets Kyurem become an more offensive You're not supposed to compare sets like that extremely powerful wallbreaker. Its extensive coverage lets it hit every Pokemon in the tier with strong unresisted moves, and its STABs are capable of 2HKOing almost any unresisted target barring Blissey, Slowking-G, and Tyranitar. Focus Blast is used primarily to hit Tyranitar and Blissey, as well as Steel-types like specially defensive Scizor or Melmetal. Alternatively, Earth Power can be used to hit Heatran and other Steel-types for more reliable, yet weaker, damage. It also, notably, can hit Slowking-G for super effective damage at the expense of hitting Blissey and Ferrothorn super effectively. Modest Nature is primarily used for its increased damage output; however, Timid Nature can be used as another option to outspeed Jolly Excadrill, Jolly Landorus-T and Timid Nidoking All Nidoking use maximum speed, and Excadrill can be Adamant at the expense of some power.

Choice Specs Kyurem shines on bulky offense teams that can play aggressively to give it as many opportunities as possible to switch in and wallbreak. Kyurem, which is deterred by Stealth Rock or other entry hazards, enjoys having support from Defog users like Corviknight. Knock Off Tornadus-T Both the viable Torn sets usually use Knock Off, so there's no need to specify is another great offensive partner - it can lure in and Knock Off common specially defensive switch-ins like Slowking-G or Blissey, making Kyurem's wallbreaking job much easier with constant chip on Blissey through entry hazards and Slowking-G's decreased special bulk. Focus Blast primarily hits Tyranitar and Blissey, as well as hitting targeting Steel-types like specially defensive Scizor and Melmetal.
