Well, Nintendo isn't trying to "reach out", it's just trying to adapt to the social environment nowadays.
Why is the player character such a drama queen when he loses?
A dramatic re-enactment of whenever you lose a battle:
"[Player] is out of useable Pokémon!"
"[Player] turned over [some PokéDollars] to the winner". (Thank goodness it's not HALF YOUR FREAKING SAVINGS anymore)
[Player]: OMG mah pogeymanz I was BEATEN HOW CAN THIS BE WAAaaAugh *collapse* X_x
"[Player] blacked out!"

Untrue. First of all, you white out when you lose, not black out. Second of all, when you lose, you rush to the pokemon center, shielding your pokemon with your arms to protect them from further harm. Your character is a very caring individual.
And yes, I too find it very good that you don't lose half your money anymore. I hate going up against the Elite Four to train, losing because my pokemon are all still five levels lower than theirs, and turning over 200000 pokedollars.

I also found it a little queer that my base 55 speed Ursaring was faster then everything.
For some reason I think each pokemon their has 0 EVs and 0 IVs.
When you catch the Valley Windworks Drifloon (lv. 22) it requires 1337 experience to reach lv. 23. I thought that was funny.
I swear Aaron's Drapion knows five moves. Aerial Ace, Crunch, Cross Poison, Ice Fang, and X-Scissor.

I got that same impression when battling Brentha's Sudowoodo. I swear I saw it have five moves the last time I battled it.
Who else loled at THUNDER ARMOR in the anime.
Oh and if you play Spiritomb's cry and slow it down it sounds like its saying "Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" kinda freaked me out.
