Left 4 Dead (50% off this weekend on Steam!)

I don't think there are many of us on 360 Scrubs. I might get the 360 version down the line but I bought it to play with friends so stuck with the PC version. It's probably gonna get the most free DLC too.

The demo was fucking amazing and I kicked arse at it too :)

so uh

who wants to gift this to me

I'll play kelogg lol

expert is pretty epic but every now and again you get hit with these retardedly impossible hoards with smokers and 2 or 3 of those gigantofuck things all at the same time.

I just played No Mercy on normal (single player) and I've got to say that it really exceeded my expectations. Although it starts of structurally identical to the demo, the Apartments and Subway seemed a lot different from the demo in terms of how many bosses I encountered (and when they showed up). Then again, this could just be the AI director, I don't know. But the part of the Subway that you see in the demo is not the full level; it's more like half of it.

The whole thing was incredibly epic from start to finish and I constantly found myself inching along crouching and waiting for audio cues, ready to punish pouncing hunters. The atmosphere throughout the whole thing was terrific, especially the sewers (an environment that I had thought that I would hate to navigate). Also, in two places in the campaign I was playing, I was basically forced to engage the witch because she was RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A HALLWAY that I was walking through. Which was fun. And the final stand on the rooftop was also cool.

One of the things that I really like is the voice acting; it really does contribute to an almost cinematic experience. In No Mercy, there's a 15-second elevator ride during which I got to hear Bill and Francis argue about whether the Infected were "zombies," which was pretty cool. And again, the whole cooperative aspect of the game is just amazing, the smoker and hunter really epitomize this.

I've only had time to do one run. Advanced on No Mercy. My mic wouldn't work for some inexplicable reason so it was less fun. At the end, we finally made it to the helicopter. I chucked a pipe bomb to distract the infected and two of my friends ran on. Then a smoker got me :( They left me for dead :( My other friend died just on the ramp up to the heli.

Dear. God. This. Game. Is. Amazing.

There is literally nothing that I can fault this game for. It creates a beautiful environment that genuinely frightens me... which is exactly what I want from a horror game. I can name countless times where my heart was pounding from anticipation. And that's one of the most beautiful facets of this game, the pacing. It doesn't continuously barrage you with mountains of the horde, it sends them at you in little bits, teasing you with the thought that "oh shit, this might be the big one," only to realize that it's only a couple dozen. And then BAM, right when you're not expecting it, someone sets off a car alarm and you have near 100 zombies to kill.

That's another great thing about the game. I daresay the Boomer and the Car Alarms are the best additions to the game. They create such an "OH, FUCK!" situation... I can attest to having screamed that particular phrase a number of times while playing with my friends.

I also think that all of the special infected do an incredible job at forcing cooperative gameplay. I had one friend who when beginning L4D, would frequently lag behind and just say "you guys go on, I'll catch up. I'm just gonna explore a bit"

After a few times of being dragged off by a rouge smoker, or ripped to shreds by a hunter before we could get back to him, let me tell you, he began to sing a different tune.

The cresendo moments are perfectly spaced in order to give those little tidbits of incredibly exciting moments during the less intense early chapters before the finale. Some of these events are even more fun than the finales themselves I believe. The cresendo event while waiting for the elevator to come down is by far one of the most nerve racking experiences you will ever have... I for one almost shat myself when the side walls burst open with ~40 horde a piece and I realized that I no longer had my back to a wall.

The only thing I feel a bit of remorse for is the lack of a more concrete story line. I'm constantly wondering "how the hell did all of this happen!?" or things like "Now what? What happens after they get rescued by the military?" however in a campaign that is meant to be played over and over again, I can see why they chose to eschew a more robust storyline for the simple one they have implimented... simply put, who wants to go through a million and one cutscenes EVERY time you want to play the campaign?

All in all, this game is a must buy for any PC gamer. I find myself more in awe with each of Valve's releases... I'd probably buy shit on a plate if it had Valve's logo on it. And it would still be amazing.

Also, my Steam gamertag is "LonelyNess" (original, eh?). If anyone wants to play with me, just send me an invite. I'm always willing to kill a few thousand zombies. Just remember, I'm always Zoey.

There are some rumors that amazon will be selling this for like 20 bucks, if so I might buy the game, fuck yeaaah.

My roommate and I already beat this on normal, we're working on it on the harder level now. So far, No mercys finale was insanely hard because you are in the open and tanks wreck your shit if you don't light them up with a molatov. We just hid in the closet and took turns meleeing, then emerging only once the tank came and dodged him while he burned. Either way, most finales require a pipe bomb at the end to distract the zombies so you can get away.

Also, the airport sucked, really badly.

My roommate pointed out that this game may be RIPE for downloadable content. He pointed out that new weapons, NPC zombie types or even campaigns/levels might be possible, since this game did take us only 4 hours to beat on normal.

Amazing gameplay. My girlfriend says it's 'stressful'. Overall, I really enjoy this game which is pretty impressive considering I don't play many video games these days.

lol normal, the game is not enjoyable in normal, try playing expert for a challenge. In my opinion expert is the only mode the game should be played in because the other modes are just way too easy :/

Fuck.

I was all happy about the 20 dollar deal but it seems it only lasted like 5 minutes at 3 am est :/ I guess I got unlucky.

Yeah, I missed the $20 deal too as it lasted for literally 3 minutes at 3 AM EST, but I picked it up for $35 at Gogamer. I'll see you guys soon!

Okay, I figured something out.

Left 4 Dead can be a wicked frustrating game for this huge reason:
If you are the best member of a team, you are at the biggest disadvantage.

If you're the best, the other members of the team are going to be worse at watching your back, saving you, and keeping zombies at bay. If you're that best player, it's going to be a long night ahead of you.

I am actually really good, Stoo, so you would be surprised. Tpup and me play sitting next to each other, and whenever he complains about the team not doing something, he remembers to mention "Not you, our idiot teammates" x)

also me and him wrecked during versus today. We didnt get a tank ONCE during the whole Blood Harvest campaign, even!

but anyways, we havent actually played through a full expert campaign. We have tried it on various times, but it always seems that someone drops out before you finish. We made it to the fourth safehouse on Dead Air relatively unharmed, but the room dropped because it was hosted locally by someone who quit during the 3rd section. We need someone who is dedicated enough, with a mic!

Stoo, you tub o' lard, get the game.

I have a question for those who have the game. Is there anyway to tone down the graphical effects / requirements? I'm considering buying this game, but don't currently have a graphics card capable of running it at full capacity.

If you can run TF2 or any Source game, you should be able to run this fine. It's optimized for dual core processors so you would actually get better performance than with TF2.

But yes, you can turn down settings in Video.

The game also comes with a lowend.cfg that you can exec from the console. One of the volunteer moderators from the Steampowered forums claims that he can run the game on his 8400 (well below the minimum requirement), although I'm not sure what kind of framerates you'd get with a card like that.

So does anyone know if in this game you can go on X-box live and get randomly matched up with people to play with?

Or do you have to do it from your friends list exclusively?

I was thinking of asking it for the 360 for christmas and was wondering if you could do this.
