I think I’ve officially made up my mind I won’t be getting this game, at least not on Day 1. I’ve been arguing with myself on this long enough and I was hoping anything from the leaks, datamines, etc. would help me make my decision for this coming Thursday but everything I’m seeing so far isn’t convincing me to spend $70 on this at any point, and the Mega Feraligatr design is even worse than I expected. So much for wanting to pick Totodile. Not like it’s going to be viable anyways when I’m pretty confident the Life Orb Sheer Force set is going to hit harder than the Mega would unless they give it a strong enough new Ability in Champions (which I also won’t be playing).
The various references to other media are neat, I suppose, and there are some new additions I’m mildly interested in, but I’ve never been a fan of generational gimmicks anyway and speaking as someone who’s really only interested in the game’s story if anything, I can easily save myself the time and effort and just watch this on YouTube or something. Maybe I’m just chronically online too much but I think the overwhelming negativity surrounding this game is finally starting to get to me, because I feel nothing about any of the confirmed information we do have in this thread, and I skimmed through practically every post here.
The difference between this and the combination of Legends Arceus and SV is that the last two games I was just barely able to be convinced to get those games and I enjoyed both of their main stories more than I expected, though I still didn’t care for Paldea’s “open world” and completing the PokéDex in Legends. The only thing to do in those games when you’re done with the story is Shiny hunt, and I have something else more specific I prefer over Shinies. Based off of confirmed information Legends ZA does look to be more structured than SV was which is nice, and I personally welcome the smaller map size since Paldea had to be designed with the Union Circle in mind, but again, this comes with the caveat of a higher likelihood of less content and especially less content beyond the DLC that will actually interest me. Going from “I hate that YouTubers keep spoiling the game” to “I actively want to see spoilers to know if this is even worth it” is not a good look for this game at all, at least for me as an individual. The last time I felt this way, I watched the death of an entire genre unfold right before my eyes at the ripe age of 13 and didn’t even know the last game existed for a while after that. Granted, Pokémon is much, much more popular than those specific games were, but it is still something that scares me especially with all of the hot water Pokémon is in these days.
