LEGO madness :x

So my friend lent me his Gundam Wing DVD set, and I'm at episode 28 right now, where Death Scythe Hell and the Shenlong upgrade have been revealed (at 70% complete) and since I started watching the series' episodes back to back, I've been fucking around with my LEGOs and trying to build a mech. I'm going to go to Wal-mart and Target later to spend my x-mas gift cards and get more sets, hopefully getting some good joint pieces, to use in my endeavor. I've found sites such as mechahub.com, brickshelf.com. and mocpages.com to get some ideas and joint-building solutions. I'm curious to know if any of you are LEGO builders, and if so, have you built any mechs? If I can make a mech I'm satisfied with, I'll post a pic of it here. It's been at least a year since I've really touched my LEGOs, so I'm getting used to them. I find myself spending too much time looking for the right pieces than actually putting them together, so I'm hoping getting some new sets will just give me a lot of pieces I'm looking for. Sadly, LEGOs are a shitload of money, so I'll just have to make do.

Post your thoughts on LEGO mech-making, and/or post your own mech pics here :D Or just LEGO creations in general, I've just got Gundam on my mind :x

I used to love legos so much! I haven't built any robots or anything but I did make a really cool looking plane once! I was never too creative, so thats really the only thing I built on my own.

I've wanted to start actually building cool things with my old legos for a long time, but I haven't ever gotten around to it. The problem is that they're all dumped in an enormous bin, and in order to really work with them I'd have to undertake a rather massive organization project that I have neither the time nor the space for.

But yeah, Legos really are amazing, and I love some of the mechs I've seen built with them. If you do make anything neat be sure to post pictures.

The bionicle sets have many joint pieces, unless you only want to use the "real" legos.

I was also obsessed with my legos, occasionaly I get them out and build still.
On the robot pics/your robot, do you want it to hold a man, or just look sweet?

Did anyone play with their creations after you built them, or am I alone on that part

I used to be like a god with legos. even at 10 I could make really cool stuff.

I think there was a set like Creators Pack Robots or soemthing, and it should have good joint pieces.

I made some pretty cool LEGO robots when I was in FLL! I liked LEGO back when it was geared at middle-aged engineers. Now, however, their marketing is based on the assumption that their consumers posses both money and mechanical ineptitude in limitless quantities. Bring back W.T. RIS!

Used to make a dungeon for my hamster, with little lego men stirring a big pot of prison food and refilling it's waterbowl with a few skeletons hanging on the wall. It was the coolest thing.

oh. my. mother. fucking. god.

I wasn't that awesome with lego, I do have some left though.

I remember building some of it though. Was pretty cool. I lost all the boxes and instruction shit though. I remember playing with them when I was a little kid.

That Star Destroyer is actually a set being sold, I've been getting the Lego Magazine for free for about 10 years now and I glance at it every so often, its amazing how far they've come since then, I remember my original pirate ship set and looking at the stuff now its just mind boggling. I think the actual Lego website has a builder where you can build something and test it see if it looks good before ever doing anything with the real Legos.

Just a tip, I found that Lego people's legs work awesome for mechs hands, take the legs off and put them in a block and you have a really good looking hand. Not sure if you can apply it here, but its a suggestion, if I wasn't at Uni I would be able to actually help a bit more with my collection at home.

i remeber making a totally kick-ass lego bird when i was about 6.

also that robot gundam whatever thing is fucking GG.
so is the mudkip.

I remember when I went to the F.A.O. Schwartz in NYC and looking at the LEGO models there. They've got some pretty crazy stuff. If memory serves me right, there was, like, a life-sized Hagrid, Darth Vader, and Chewbacca, as well as a scale model of a New York street, complete with working subway system and fossils (the fossils didn't move like the subway, of course; they're flippin' fossils >.<).

But, yeah, some of the stuff they make nowadays is crazy. I used to play when them when I was younger, with my brother. We used to have space dogfights with them. He'd usually always win, though. I've still got two of the larger ships I made for it. No digital camera, though.
