I really do like special episode 5 and the ending is definitely touching (although damn, writers killed off Dusknoir before he got to see the sunrise). The issue to me, of course, is that the Pokemon are vanishing and only them.
Why is the world still there? Why isn't it turning into specks of light and ceasing to exist? The future world, even if time has restarted, flat out shouldn't exist at all - the rocks fall to the ground they don't suddenly vanish and reappear where they normally would be if time had never stopped the way it did. Was it just that the world disappears slower or something? It's just strange and doesn't fit in.
re: Time Stuff: the preferences thing always seemed a little too complex for my tastes, I always thought of it if someone "sees the future" they're seeing the future as it would be if there wasn't knowledge of the future tainting their actions (or alternatively, the future they see is what happens when they act according to the knowledge of the "future" - "Ohh, what's really going to bake your noodle later on is, would you still have broken it if I hadn't said anything?" and all that). Free will certainly may exist, but that doesn't change the fact that people still choose to do things in certain circumstances, and as long as the circumstances are identical in every way then the same person will act the same way.
Stable/closed time loops (time traveler must travel through time to do what they did in the original pass they did) are definitely interesting and definitely not the case in PMD. The example I usually use is Harry Potter, where Harry's time travel is present in the original timeline and, taking it a step further than that, are necessary for him to travel back in time in the first place seeing as he saves his own life and all. A reverse grandfather paradox if you will. This kind of time travel needs to account for the grandfather paradox, since a stable loop where the circumstances prevent the time traveler from traveling in the first place isn't possible.
For PMD, things are pretty simple if you look only at the main timeline's perspective fortunately. Something from the future changed the present, and now the present continues in the changed fashion. There's no need to send somebody back to "close a loop", all that would do is get you another copy of the time traveler at that point in time. It's the future timeline where it gets weird and how time apparently doesn't change instantaneously but gradually (how is a complete unknown, just like what destroying a passage of time would do) and that's where I give up on trying to figure out a reasonable sounding explanation. It's just a big ball of timey wimey stuff.
Anyways, great way to end out PMD2's plot and looking forward to recruiting! Name Omastar when you get to it "Mr. Sweep".
No matter how many times I play through Special Episode 5, it never ceases to amaze me, both because of the story and the music.
As much as I want to say that the game's timeline is really just a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff, your explanation for how the timelines work actually makes a ton of sense. Some of the details are a bit odd, but really that's true in any game that involves time travel.
I don't have quite as much of a metaphysical idea on how the time travel works, at least no moreso than that ramble I did a few updates back, but with the questions raised on the ending and the Passage of Time's meaning, I have some more fantasy-land style ideas I'd like to pitch.
A Passage of Time (part of me speculates there's more than one but I'll refer to it in a singular specific for ease of discussion) is something only described to exist in the future as presented, and evidently it appears with at least a level of predictability that Celebi can know where it is without having recently been present, and Dialga can find one without being informed. I have a speculation that the Passage of Time is essentially the remains of the Time Gears, the last vestiges of time on the Paralyzed Planet, so it appears in locations where the Time Gears would be or were meant to be found.
I brought up previously my concept of the Bad Future as essentially being a "wall" or a stop in the flow of time. Dialga is described as needing to gather energy to send an agent back in time if he doesn't use the Passage of Time, akin to essentially forcing someone through/over the block where time stopped, as opposed to in essence squeezing through a crack in it as the Passage of Time would be. This would explain the imprecise-but-close-to-disaster time that the travelers pop out: the Passage returns them to a time fairly close (in relative terms) to when time still moved and before they stopped, they can only go so far back through that opening before the "forward" movement of time forces them to proceed as usual. It would also explain how Grovyle knows where to look for Celebi on different occasions: he knew the locations of the Passages from seeking out the Time Gear locations with Alti, whether as a consequence or a starting point ("Okay, the Passage is here, now we need to find out where the Time Gear will be in the past"). Celebi has the ability to time travel herself, but since time only really exists around a Passage now, it means it's the quickest way for Grovyle to seek her out is to go to one and scout the area.
This would also potentially play into the slow "ripple" effects of the future changing: If you think of time in the sense of existing in a field or area (from how time stops when the Gears are taken in the past), they have to spread from a point of Origin like the Passage of Time. It's like leaks in a damn, and the closer Alti and Ray get to interfering with the event that paralyzed the planet, the more consequences of it bleed through from the Passage of Time. The first winds blowing and the aurora appearing were time passing through that didn't move before, whether when they decidedly changed the future or a butterfly effect of their efforts delaying the tower's collapse even slightly. It's also why Dialga, in his rage, goes after it when the disappearances start: the changing past is flowing through the Passage, so if he destroys it, he stops the changes from coming through that cause him to vanish, preventing the future from changing since Time cannot flow into the stagnant bubble they occupy.
To explain their survival, I think the simplest explanation is simply that Arceus anchored them into the timeline that comes into existence. The lore and "hierarchy" of Sinnoh's Legends suggests Arceus essentially exists outside the natural order of time, and this was their reward for fixing a problem for him, as some gods reward mortals in myths for feats monumental to the latter but simple for the former. The difference, and what sets it apart from Dialga reviving Alti, is that they essentially "exist" in the new future, compared to Alti being an outside presence Dialga brought in, which was the source of the spatial distortion Darkrai played on to try and deal with the team during the post-game story.
As for my feelings on the ending, I can see why it's mixed for some people. My main issue is that it wants to have its cake and eat it too with the disappearances. I feel it either should have played out a "why aren't we vanishing?" reveal after defeating Dialga, or let them vanish and at most maybe ended with an ambiguity of their survival, like a recreation of the shot before Alti was brought back, with the now restored future Dialga. I don't have a problem with the sad disappearance or their survival as their own endings, but put right next to each other I feel like they bring each other down a bit. It's been mentioned that the Player disappearing and not returning would be more impactful if there wasn't a post-game to necessitate it, but once that element is introduced, I'm willing to accept it enough thematically in other cases, even if there isn't necessarily a "reason" that this group should survive comparatively. It's mostly the fact that compared to the player where they did disappear and bringing them back much later in the timeline was acknowledged, the immediate follow up here makes it seem like a fake out after playing the trio's last moments for genuine emotion.
Also, to get nitpicky with the physics, it might not be that it was a proper eternal night, since that would entail one half of the planet being in constant sunlight where people could live. My guess is that Light essentially traveled through space as normal, but then the stopped time of the planet caused it to stop moving when it reached the atmosphere. Heat couldn't spread or escape the planet, essentially preventing entropy (to explain how they don't freeze to death). The aurora appearing is a sign that time is moving again since light and solar winds can actually move on the planet in enough capacity to influence it again. The sunrise was likely "coincidence" for narrative impact, but it makes me wonder what it was like on the other half of the planet where the sunlight just reappeared all at once like a light switch.
Short update today because... reasons I guess. Mostly just kind of setting up some stuff for future updates. Although those all might be really short as well, we’ll see how this turns out lol.
Merritt: there’s a lot of weird with this. I assume the world itself isn’t vanishing because it’s the same world and it like. Can’t? disappear? But that doesn’t explain why everything just like starts acting like time suddenly got fixed JUST NOW (i.e. in the future) instead of becoming like it always should have been. It would make sense if the world disappeared, but there’s no hint that it does so instead we just get confused
Your idea of seeing the future “as it would have been” makes sense too lol. The preference principle was originally developed as a way to explain the ending of Xenoblade Chronicles which involves future-vision but also like, an expectation that people act in a certain way which is then subverted so I had to find SOME way to explain that sort of double standard.
Harry Potter is a very good time loop too, and like you said the saving his own life thing really helps. I forgot about it temporarily while writing my post lol
PMD makes sense in its own weird way as far as the time travel goes (as in, not a stable time loop). Buuuut the future timeline makes no sense.

pika pal: Oh, I like your interpretation of the Passage of Time, that explains a lot about how those work and how they exist. In the game as is they just sort of Are without any reason, so this makes sense. Doesn’t really explain why there’s one on Blizzard Island (unless of course you take the “there’s more than 5 Time Gears” approach – which is another debate altogether, one I raised earlier...) but eh we don’t know everything about the world lel.
As for the ripple effects due to the Passage of Time – I still can’t get over the fact that the ripple effect doesn’t make any damn sense to begin with but I guess that makes sense??? Sort of??? It requires a bizarre impression of “time” as a concept but then again so does this whole game
Re: survival: I agree with you up until the point where the Sableye and the Snorunt and Spiritomb were implied to have been saved as well. Surely they weren’t (well, at least the Snorunt and Spiritomb) important enough for that???? lol
On the ending: Yeah I agree with you. Either they should have disappeared forever or never disappeared at all, not both, but it ruins the impact of both to have the other...
And about the light: I like your entropy idea. I think they actually were in the night though because Grovyle kept saying “dawn is near” which seems to imply they were in the night and waiting for the turn of the earth to bring back the dawn. Or it could just be because the planet is being restored now, idk lol. I love your idea that light just appeared all at once on the other side though, that’s pretty good lmao

So, hey.
This is the Secret Slab which I’ll need to complete the game. I thought that it only showed up after you get Marine Resort, guess I was wrong. (Well that’s what Bulbapedia says anyway lol.)
What it (and the Mystery Part) does is they make certain legendaries appear in a handful of dungeons throughout the game. Not all legends are found at the ends of dungeons; some of them are encountered mid-dungeon like Mew in Buried Relic. (Unlike Mew, though, they have a much greater chance of spawning on the floor they’re supposed to appear on. They might actually be guaranteed to spawn in the floor’s initial spawn? Maybe? It’s been such a long time, I don’t remember 100%.
The legendaries unlocked through this are Zapdos, Moltres, Lugia, Ho-oh, Celebi, Latias, Latios, Deoxys, and Darkrai. In Time/Darkness, Mewtwo, Raikou, and Entei are also unlocked this way (in Sky, Raikou and Entei have their own dungeons while Mewtwo is found through a challenge letter in Spinda’s Café), while Moltres is not (due to appearing in a different dungeon that doesn’t require the Secret Slab/Mystery Part). The Latis and Darkrai are available in multiple dungeons.
Guess now is a good time to take stock of where we are as far as dungeons and legendaries are concerned.
We have unlocked all of the game’s plot-related dungeons, including Marine Resort and the Sky-exclusive Sky Peak. Everything else is gotten through other means.
Of the seven Seven Treasures dungeons, we have all seven.
Of Spinda’s Café unlockables, we are missing five.
Labyrinth Cave is just supposed to be a “random encounter” mission, apparently, like you find it on the board and it just has question marks for the location.
Lost Wilderness is randomly found through drinking at Spinda’s Café, it sounds like.
Lake Afar is obtained through making 100 recycles at Spinda’s Recycling. (I checked, we’re currently at 90.)
Zero Island Center is obtained through making 150 recycles at Spinda’s Recycling.
Star Cave – yes, the same one from the Special Episode – is unlocked via a Pokémon in the café with a challenge letter.

Then there are four dungeons that I have to get by getting a high enough rescue rank to unlock them. In order of unlock, these are Oblivion Forest, Treacherous Waters, Southeastern Islands, Inferno Cave.

We pick up Destiny Tower from the bottom of a juice glass in the café.
Destiny Tower is... uh... I’ve never beaten it. Or even tried. It was added for Sky and is basically that game’s Purity Forest: a hell challenge to the highest degree. It is a level 1 dungeon, 99 floors, and traps remain unseen when you step on them, meaning if you can’t memorize where they are you’re liable to step on them again. The levels in the dungeon top out around 30, similarly to Purity Forest. Unlike Purity Forest however it’s not required to recruit a Pokémon, it’s just there if you want to take on the challenge.

Actually no, lol. I abused items to get out of some scrapes and then realized I had a Pass Scarf, which reflects most all damage on the holder onto adjacent Pokémon. With no friends, the damage is only reflected onto the enemy. Very, very handy. Not to mention I can use the waterways to evade Pokémon, too.

So this is an Amber Tear, which boosts recruitment by 24% - much more than the Friend Bow’s 10%. It’s necessary for recruiting Kecleon in this game and will be a lot handier to have now that we’re in full-on recruitment mode.

Also – food for thought / commentary: should I evolve Alti and Ray? Whether I do or don’t, they don’t count toward the recruitment total (hence why you won’t find them in the Recruitment Progress list); it’s just a matter of aesthetics/stats/moves (in the case of Lucario). Usually I don’t evolve my main duo but I did last time, so I figured I may as well ask if you guys want to see that or not.
(Sorry – we’ve hit the really boring part of the game. Hopefully I can make it interesting, though!... Somehow. :p)
Personally I say evolve them, the game makes such a big deal out of the fact that they can't evolve that letting them do it feels right. Also Lucario is better for L1 dungeons anyways.
I think the Secret Slab and Mystery Part CAN be obtained before Marine Resort, but I recall a guidebook for Time and Darkness (unsure if Sky changed it) specifying that Marine Resort has to be unlocked AND you have to have the item to spawn the Legendaries (which makes sense since there are some legends in a Dungeon you can't bring the items to).
I think Darkrai has the lowest recruitment rate in the game besides Kecleon, beating out even several fully evolved mons by a decent margin (-22%), which is funny since Palkia claimed he'd lose his memory and thus shouldn't remember any grudge that would explain that.

I can’t recruit Articuno on the same update as taking missions, but a) I’m still trying to pick up rescue points and b) if I get Articuno I’m also going to try to clear Mt. Avalanche of recruits, so this works just as well.

We take some missions in Crevice Cave in the hopes of getting some recruits missing from Blizzard Island. These are mostly fully-evolved so it might be tricky to get them at my current level, but this didn’t take too long with the Amber Tear I guess?

Asked the Discord for an Eevee naming scheme. Blitz suggested the Go names but. This is a Glaceon. So instead I got suggested the Eevee Trainers from the Eevium quest, so this Glaceon is Rea.
lmao I’m honestly surprised some of these fully-evolved recruits are joining this quickly, even with the Amber Tear. Named Icewater which is a horrible name but its what i named mine in Platinum way back when ok!!!
And as a result of our unrelenting mission efforts we grab another rank and the first dungeon. Nice.

This took way too long. Crevice Cave has random spawns, but even so it still seems like Snover has a much lower spawn rate than the other possible Pokémon in the dungeon. So I spent a while trying to find any Snover, had two I fought not even join me, and then finally I got one here. And there’s another one offscreen above us somewhere, I saw it a second ago. I need two Snover because Abomasnow can’t be recruited directly, so I still need to find another.
This one is named Balsam though.

Since we’re not on a mission, we can actually hit the midpoint of the dungeon. There are Snover in the deep part, so I’m going to continue on through in the hopes of getting one there. There’s also Darkrai, but I won’t go out of my way to try to recruit it here since the priority is Snover.

So Uxie has a 100% recruit rate, which is interesting because there weren’t many mons in MD1 like that. I’ve mentioned before that recruiting is generally easier in MD2 than 1. This seems to apply pretty heavily to legends as well. Let’s kind of go through them here.
Legendary birds are all 30% in MD1. In MD2 Articuno is 20, Zapdos is 10, Moltres is 30. This is somewhat worse than MD1, but the birds themselves aren’t as generally difficult to fight as in MD1 (where if you went to fight them right after beating the game you were liable to get beaten up, especially with Articuno’s Powder Snow/Agility, and probably didn’t feel like coming back for them later since the novelty of “omg i can go back and recruit them!” kind of wears off.)
(For the record, Moltres is found in Final Maze, a training dungeon of sorts, in T/D as opposed to Giant Volcano.)
Mewtwo is... I dunno. It’s a bit confusing. In MD1 it definitely has a 99.9% recruit rate. The chance of not getting it is the same as the chance of recruiting a Kecleon at max in the same game, and if you’re level 30 or above (which... you almost certainly HAVE to be to make it to the end of the dungeon) it becomes 100% due to recruit bonuses. Mewtwo isn’t the only mon with a 99.9% recruit rate in MD1: Lugia, Ho-oh, and Jirachi all have them too.
However Mewtwo and Ho-oh are both hampered by the fact that you can’t recruit them first try and have to finish the dungeon twice. Ho-oh is all right because Mt. Faraway is 40 floors, but Western Cave is 99. Have fun.
Lugia and Jirachi can both be obtained on the first try, but Lugia is at the bottom of a 99-floor dungeon and Jirachi a 99-floor level 1 dungeon where it is quite possible you might want to reject its recruit in order to wish for something (as I did in the previous Let’s Play).
Let’s compare these four to their MD2 counterparts:
Mewtwo is confusing like I said earlier. In Sky it seems to be a 100% cutscene recruit following the fight against it in Sky Stairway, which is... decidedly not 198 floors of dungeon. So Sky Mewtwo is definitely easier than Rescue Team Mewtwo.
Not sure about T/D Mewtwo, though. In that game it is found very deep in Aegis Cave, which is already hell in and of itself, and you can’t even loop that part of the dungeon because it’s at the end, after the Rock/Ice/Steel bits. So if you don’t recruit it... have fun going back! And if my sources are right it has a -22% recruit rate which gives you something like 28% with max bonuses. I’d say T/D Mewtwo is probably worse than R/B Mewtwo.
Lugia is a 10% recruit on floor 18 of Surrounded Sea. I think that’s marginally better than Silver Trench Lugia, especially since there aren’t any size restrictions on recruiting Lugia since you can recruit things whenever in that lol.
Ho-oh is 10% recruit on floor 19 of Mt. Mistral. Again since you have to do Mt. Faraway twice anyway I think this is around the same difficulty as R/B.
Jirachi is a guaranteed recruit in Sky, which is DEFINITELY easier than in R/B. In T/D it was a -12% (I think) chance in Final Maze, which tops out at something like 38%. Kind of sucks since Final Maze has some restrictions as it is, but I’m not sure how it compares to R/B since I didn’t really do catch-em-all in T/D that often.
Mew is 0.9% in Buried Relic where it never has more than like a 2% chance to spawn at all. I... think the 20% of MD2 Mew is better. :VVVVVVVVVV
Legendary Beasts are 0.1% in R/B and either 5% or 6.4% depending on the beast in MD2. I’m not sure how perfectly accurate that is since the beasts got moved around in Sky (Suicune was in Final Maze, Entei in Deep Dark Crater, Raikou in Concealed Ruins, now they’re all at the end of their own dedicated dungeon), but either way I think those rates are a lot better especially considering what HELL the 30 floors of Fiery/Lightning/Northwind Fields were in MD1 lmao.
Celebi is guaranteed at the end of Purity Forest and 20% in Mystifying Forest. I... think I’ll take the 20% (max of something like 70%) chance and random encounter over... the entirety of Purity Forest with its level 1 99-floor madness. But this one is up to opinion, I think, since sometimes it’s just nice to know it’ll be successful.
Regis are 0.1% in MD1 and -12% in MD2. Well so the site says but since I got all three on my first true I’m not sure if I got lucky or there are other factors in play.
You have to keep retrying Aegis Cave if you fail so I think MD1 Regis are the winners here lmao.
Latis are automatic after completing the Lati sidequest (two 25-floor dungeons that aren’t that hard) and 0.1% in MD2. I think the winner is clear here lmao
Kyogre is 50% at the end of Stormy Sea (and I think it can be recruited first try?) and 30% (or maybe -10%, saw some conflicting info) in Bottomless Sea in MD2. Again I think the winner is clear. Stormy Sea and Bottomless Sea are both 50 floors.
Groudon, Rayquaza, and Deoxys are all -10% in both games. I’d say Groudon and Rayquaza win in MD1 because you can save and reset at the midpoint in those but not MD2. Deoxys I think is easier in MD2 because there aren’t weird dungeon restrictions like in Meteor Cave and because it’s floor 17 of Shimmer Hill vs 20 of Meteor Cave.
The Pixies, Dialga, Palkia, Cresselia, Phione, Manaphy, Shaymin, and possibly Regigigas (conflicting info) are all 100%. Seems damn easy to me!
Heatran and Giratina (and maybe Regigigas) are 8.2% in their respective dungeons.
Darkrai is -22%, the same as T/D Mewtwo but the second-lowest after Kecleon in Sky. It appears in five dungeons, though.
Overall with all the guaranteed recruits and lack of level 1 / 99 floor dungeons I think MD2 is generally easier but that’s up to opinion lol. Feel free to chime in!
Anyway, enough of that. Moving on to Crystal Cave for some more recruits.

One cool thing about MD2 is that it actually allows you to move on to dungeons that are linked in-game, even if it’s not two halves of a dungeon like Mt. Blaze and Mt. Blaze Peak or w/e. I always thought that was great for making the world feel connected. We went through Crystal Cave to Crystal Crossing before, of course we should be able to do it again!

… Well. Yes, but I had forgotten something about it. I forgot that the Suicune battle is actually a challenge letter, not a standard boss fight. And I either never got the challenge letter or didn’t notice that it was one.
(I think I’ve just been getting real unlucky with the letters... or they’re just not showing up. I still haven’t gotten Labyrinth Cave. I’m okay with generating them because it makes the LP move along and helps the narrative element of things.)

I have to say I love the addition of challenge letters. The idea of the legendaries being so enamored with the strength and capabilities of our team (I mean, we did save the world... twice) that they want to fight us and then join us if we beat them is a lot of fun and I love how it suggests the legendaries want to join us of their own will even before we fight them & hit random recruitment chance. It’s just fun.
Now then. Time to actually fight a random recruit chance... at the bottom of a 50-floor dungeon.
Time to take on Bottomless Sea.
Don’t think we’ve been here before so showing it off now. It’s... it’s a water dungeon. It has a lot of Pokémon, but the ones I care about finding are Gyarados, Remoraid, Kingdra, Horsea, Seadra, Slowbro, Starmie, Slowking, Octillery, Lapras, and Wailord. (Lots of the water dungeons have overlapping inhabitants, so I’m fine with getting multiple mons from certain dungeons, so some of these might end up coming from Surrounded Sea or Miracle Sea.)
In the midst of a Monster House Peanut levels up, which now means he’s at evolution level and thus WE CAN SEND HIM HOME AND NEVER DEAL WITH HAIL BULLSHIT EVER AGAIN.

Well that’s... incredibly obnoxious...
Luckily though Kyogre can’t actually do too much to me despite me failing to attack several times. Ice Beam never froze and Body Slam never paralyzed, and no move did more than like 2 damage. (The health Alti is missing in this screenshot is rebound damage from some of her own attacks, since I guess Kyogre has the IQ skill that makes that a thing.
I think it’s pretty obvious which type this boosts recruitment for. Love its name though!
And we never need to come this deep into the dungeon again! Hooray.
(Side note: With the Pokémon we got from this attempt, we’re now at over 60% of recruits!)

I haven’t unlocked Inferno Cave (Entei’s dungeon) yet. For that, I need to rank up again. To rank up I need 67,830 more rescue points.
The two missions I grabbed for Bottomless Sea are 1,000 and 1,200 points respectively.

(On the plus side, the amount of grinding I’ll need to be doing will help Jirachi get up to level 100, which it needs to be for Kecleon recruitment! Swell.)

(Wailord is a stupid rare spawn... about 2.47% on one floor in Surrounded Sea and 3.03% in one floor in Bottomless Sea. Not quite as bad as Lapras, though, which is about 1.20% in Surrounded Sea, 0.60% in Miracle Sea, and 1.10% in Bottomless Sea. I happened to get really lucky with both Lapras spawns & recruitment, it would seem.)

With the acquisition of Gorebyss we have everything from this dungeon except Shellos (which is pretty early in the dungeon anyway, albeit somewhat rare), so we’ll come back for that.

So I moved on to the dungeon and picked up the last Miracle Sea recruit (Darkrai notwithstanding), named Squishie.
Before leaving this dungeon for good (maybe not depending on how attempts to snag Darkrai go) we have a mission to defeat Volbeat in a Monster House. Which we do, giving us some valuable rescue points.
Before we move on to Lake Afar, the last “big” water dungeon, we’ll take a breather and grab some from Brine Cave. There’s seven Pokémon I need from there: Omanyte (for Omastar), Dewgong, Staryu, Pelipper, Dragonair, a second Dragonair (for Dragonite), and Walrein. Also, I know you don't have Gates nor have ever played it, but I happen to have a ROM of it. It's probably my least favorite PMD that I've played (played all but the Wiiware ones), but I might might be able to to cover you for that game (assuming I actually want to go through with a mad plan like yours. Granted, Gates makes things significantly easier to do things like this.). Note that I do not have the DLC for that game nor ever want to get it, so any run of that would be DLC-less (besides, I don't know well Citra handles DLC ATM).

I exhausted all the Quicksand Cave mons on my first go. Now we’re in Quicksand Pit, and I only need two mons: Tyranitar and Ninjask. … and Tyranitar here was literally the first Tyranitar I fought, and it joined my team. … despite Tyranitar having a -12% recruit rate (so, like, 36% with Amber Tear... well never mind I guess that’s not as low as I thought.) Well, cool! I named it Gojira.

And that’s everything from Northern Desert and Quicksand Cave in one run. Amazing! This has been a productive day and I hope the rest of this update (really the LP) goes so smoothly, lol
Toothless reaches lvevel 50 en route to the end of the dungeon, so we send him home.
And after 10 floors of Quicksand Pit we meet the last of the Sinnoh pixies.

With the acquisitions of these two dungeons we’re now at exactly 76%. Over 3/4 of the way there!
The rest of this update is clearing out more plot-dungeons, and then my usual Marine Resort excursions.
After we evolve Toothless, anyway.

I don’t know if we’ve been to the next dungeon yet. It’s Oran Forest, one of the very small dungeons that exist for no real reason except to house, like, 1 recruit. And that’s Burmy-Trash. (Well we’re also picking up Oddish there for the express purpose of getting MORE than one recruit but my point still stands. One mon. Thats it.)

Last thing for this update: Labyrinth Cave.
I never got the mission for it naturally, so I do have to go ahead and generate it.
For those who don’t know, the Labyrinth Cave mission existed in T/D as a Wonder Mail-only mission that was a reference to the TV special accompanying the release of the games. In that special, the protagonists’ team (Piplup and Chimchar with help from Sunflora) are tasked with going to Labyrinth Cave to retrieve a Gabite scale to cure a sick Shinx. Rather than just getting the scale, though, they have to fight Gabite at the end of the dungeon for the scale.
The mission is C rank, so it’s almost certainly going to be incredibly easy and anticlimactic... unfortunately. But I am picking up a couple recruits from it. Labyrinth Cave doesn’t offer any recruits I can’t get elsewhere, but I might as well get a couple from here anyway just ‘cause.
I think this is the last dungeon I need to unlock apart from Inferno Cave.
So here we are.
Mons here are Golbat, Machop, Nidorina, and Nidorino. I’m going to be attempting to pick up the latter two.
We get a Togetic Wing which is kind of useless for us but hey
That’s the end of this update, short but it fits because the update was pretty short to play.
The next update might be some time anyway because I have to actually unlock Inferno Cave and that’s gonna take a lot of mission grinding. We’ll see how it goes!
But before that... I’ve got something for you guys to do in between updates. I was looking at my recruitment document and I’d forgotten that Porygon2 and Porygon-Z aren’t recruitable in this, you need to evolve Porygon. (Which is just great since Porygon is a rather rare recruit in its dungeon, but I digress.) Thing is, I don’t have any of the items needed to evolve Porygon, and it’s a crapshoot as to whether I’ll get them or not.
So it’s up to you guys to generate missions for me that result in the items I need! It’s also your chance to challenge me and make me work for it. You can put stipulations on the missions – I have to use certain Pokémon or certain items or what have you – as long as they’re not ridiculous like “do this mission in [level 90 dungeon] with [Pokémon that is level 5 right now]” or whatever.
Hopefully this code actually works, should be an exploration mission with an Absol to Mt Avalanche for a Dubious Disk. If it doesn't then I'll try again.
Restriction is that this is a throwback, you're going to be climbing a frozen mountain with an Absol after all. You have to bring somebody from the Treecko and Charmander line and nobody else (not explicitly Charmander and Treecko since those are kind of low leveled iirc). No items that didn't exist in Rescue Team (you can bring Amber Tear if you're going to recruit stuff but anything you recruit should go home immediately).

Feraligatr has had his item stolen by a mysterious thief. He thinks they ran off to the Concealed Ruins. If you can get his item back, he's willing to offer cash and a Link Cable as a reward. Only restriction is not to use your level 100s and use something around the level of the dungeon (According to Bulbapedia, the highest leveled Pokemon is 50. I'll allow you to use up to level 60 Pokemon. If they level up past that in the dungeon, oh well. Just don't use them again if you fail the run). If you get your ass kicked heavily like 10 times in a row, you can use whatever you want though.
