The dark dex entries for Mega Evolutions. They just completely contradict the entire point of Megas being a thing fueled by friendship and love and feel like they're written by someone who didn't know a thing about Megas.
I know, I know; maybe the point is that as a trainer you're supposed to help it overcome these problems, but again, the whole thing is fueled by love. Here, Glalie; my love for you extends to the point I'm going to use this stone to snap your freakin' jaw. But it's okay because I'm gonna help you not care about that during battle.
It just feels so ridiculously out of place, more so than the other dark dex entries.
THIS!
It honestly feels like they're trying to justify not making New Megas by "revealing" dark aspects about them and that Z-Moves are the "better" option. It's just another way GF is trying to push Z-Moves onto us by putting down the previous gen's major gimmick. Wouldn't be surprised next gen we learn a "dark secret" about Z-Moves, like the Pokemon putting its all into one attack makes it extremely exhausted afterwards or something. But back to Mega Evos, let's look at some of these entries:
Mega Alakazam: "As a result of Mega Evolution, its power has been entirely converted into psychic energy, and it has lost all strength in its muscles."
Comment: Dex entries already state Alakazam can barely support its ever-growing head without its psychic powers, so this is just cranking it to the extreme. Besides, isn't this sort of the idea behind the Solosis family? They're vulnerable bodies are inside a special liquid supported by its psychic powers?
Mega Gengar: "Gengar's relationships are warped. It has no interest in opponents unless it perceives them as prey."
Comment: Then how is it even Mega Evolving if it doesn't care about relationships, including the bond it needs to Mega Evolve? I always assumed trainer and Pokemon needed to keep that bond consistent throughout the battle, I guess not. Also, another thing you may notice about these Mega dex entries is that they forget Mega Evolution is TEMPORARY. The Pokemon can and will evolve back to normal, so in this case Gengar would only Mega Evolve when fighting an opponent or hunting. Otherwise it'll stay a normal Gengar.
Mega Kangaskhan: "Thanks to Mega Evolution, its child grows. But as the child is good only at fighting and nothing else, its mother feels uneasy about its future."
Comment: Oh give me a break. Once again, TEMPORARY. Second, it's only good for fighting? So what, the mother can't teach it to use its power to help or act in self defense? And the funny thing is this is Moon's dex entry, here's Sun's:
"Mega Kangaskhan's strength derives from the mother's happiness about her child's growth. Watching it grow up keeps her spirits high". It's almost the exact opposite!
Mega Gyarados: "Mega Evolution also affects its brain, leaving no other function except its destructive instinct to burn everything to cinders."
Comment: Oh no, Gyarados will become a beast of pure destruction! That completely goes against other dex entries for normal Gyarados:
Yellow: Brutally vicious and enormously destructive. Known for totally destroying cities in ancient times.
Stadium: Extremely vicious and horribly brutal. Has enough destructive power to totally annihilate even a major city.
Silver: Once it appears, it goes on a rampage. It remains enraged until it demolishes everything around it.
Crystal: It appears whenever there is world conflict, burning down any place it travels through.
Ruby: When Magikarp evolves into Gyarados, its brain cells undergo a structural transformation. It is said that this transformation is to blame for this Pokémon's wildly violent nature.
Sapphire: Once Gyarados goes on a rampage, its ferociously violent blood doesn't calm until it has burned everything down. There are records of this Pokémon's rampages lasting a whole month.
Sun: A tale is told of a town that angered Gyarados. Before the sun rose the next day, flames utterly consumed the town, leaving not a trace behind.
Moon: There are people who swear that any place Gyarados appears is fated for destruction.
Damn you, Mega Evolution, damn you. Turning this creature of death and destruction into a creature of even more of death and destruction.
Mega Aerodactyl: "When it Mega Evolves, it becomes more vicious than ever before. Some say that's because its excess of power is causing it pain."
Comment: Well so much for this being Aerodactyl's "true appearance"... which the Sun dex entry still says:
"Part of its body has become stone. Some scholars claim that this is Aerodactyl's true appearance". You know I have a feeling someone is wrong here, and I have a feeling it's everyone. But, let's take a step back and do believe Mega Evolving is painful. Alright, it's a surge, that can be painful, but only initially. Once you Mega Evolve enough times your body probably gets use to it, like how athletes put their body through rigorous training to make it stronger and more durable. When you exercise you're technically hurting yourself, but its to strengthen yourself in the end. As the popular saying goes: No pain, no gain.
Mega Scizor: "The excess energy that bathes this Pokémon keeps it in constant danger of overflow. It can't sustain a battle over long periods of time."
Comment: Well, good thing this is a temporary transformation than, isn't it? Also, this sounds like its playing up Z-Moves. Oh no! The extra energy from Mega Evolution is hurting the Pokemon over time! Good thing Z-Moves has the Pokemon use all that energy up in one super attack, thus not making their Pokemon suffer! Bite me.
Mega Garchomp:
Sun: "Excess energy melted its arms and wings, transforming them into giant scythes."
Moon: "Its vaunted wings become scythes, sending it mad with rage. It swings its scythes wildly and slices the ground to pieces."
Comment: Yup, Garchomp goes a double. First off, TEMPORARY. Second, okay Garchomp, let's be real here, how well could you fly in the first place? At best you glided or your wings acts as wind breakers when moving at high speeds. Also, "vaunted", really? It cared that much for its wings? Wings it already uses to cut down trees when zipping past them?
Mega Lucario: "It readies itself to face its enemies by focusing its mental energies. Its fighting style can be summed up in a single word: heartless."
Comment: It's as if its trying to actually win the battle but going all out! You know, the thing which Z-Moves are said to do. Incinerated by a huge fireball, stuck in a water tornado, having their mind shattered, getting drowned in acid, crushed under a mountain, sucked into a black hole, dragged into a nightmare dimension. All eloquent ways of fighting. Mega Lucario beating the s*** out of its opponent, that's just savage! Totally unlike the Fighting-type Z-Move.
Mega Sableye: "Supporting a giant heavy jewel, it can't change direction very nimbly and is vulnerable to attack from behind."
Comment: As if normal Sableye was any safer? Oh, as normal Sableye it can turn around faster so that it could see the attack that's about to hit it instead of being hit from behind. World's of difference.
Mega Glalie: "It envelops prey in its mouth, freezing them instantly. But its jaw is dislocated, so it's unable to eat them."
Comment: TEMPORARY! Once Mega Glalie freezes its opponent it can just go back to normal and eat at its leisure. Any Mega Glalie seen with prey in its mouth is probably taking it back to its nest, not trying to eat it. And yeah, it breaking its jaw is horrific sounding, but yet it heals upon turning back to normal so that must mean the Mega energy is used to heal it when turning back to normal, right? That or it can naturally heal its jaw, just Mega energy is keeping it from doing so while Mega evolved.
Mega Salamence: "Mega Evolution fuels its brutality, and it may even turn on the Trainer who raised it. It's been dubbed "the blood-soaked crescent.""
Comment: This one gets me the most upset. The point of Mega Salamence was that, having achieved its dream of flying, it becomes a master of flying becoming more aerodynamic. It was Salamence achieving its ultimate dream... and then GF turned it into something ugly. F*** off, GF; you know this is why Z-Moves, despite being a pretty good mechanic with a lot of thought going into it, has critics against it: cause you so hard push it on us that you're willing to put down things other people liked.
And of course this is just for the Mega Evos that are in the Regional Dex, we could only imagine what other nonsense they would have made for the other Mega Evos.
Also, if this process was really that harmful to the Pokemon, why are we allowed to do it? Like wouldn't this be something only villains did? Wouldn't a normal trainer be seen doing this have their trainer license revoked for neglecting the well-being of their Pokemon for a power boost?
