What are you chaining right now lorak? Good luck catching your 168 shinies of whatever it is...You should be bound to get something good out of that
Rash Nidoran M. Chain's now at about 112 after I took a nap (72 shinies so far, out of Max Repels, on Supers now).
Started on empty box 6 instead of empty box 1, like I should have, and now Nidoran Ms are filling random spots in my boxes. In box 15 now. D:

LOL, great job!! I'm going to chain them too soon. I'm doing it as a project for Dark-Ryu.

hey guys wat do u think is the best place for a beginer to go to. like the biggest area of grass. i have gotten to chains of 70 (before i know u should just keep reseting the poke rader for shinys) and i seem to be in a slump right now. so i need an easy area to chain

I'm going to guess Route 208 or 209. Good diversity in Pokemon to chain, nice enough a patch of grass size.

Wow Lorak you're really good at chaining, hope you get something good out of your massive NidoranM shiny collection:) Chained Voltorb last night but to no avail as the chain broke at 13:( Swarms Zigzagoon but already have its' shiny will be going for NidoranF now:)

Thank you very much. Those do fit the bill very well. Saved me alot of time since i didnt feel like looking all over the place for those. Also good luck on those shiny nidorans. I really want to see the ivs on those.

I'm just surprised I haven't fouled up yet. It's probably because I'm passing up border shiny patches at this point...

As do I... as do I...

EDIT: At 128 now.

beautiful!! thats the way to do it :D serious overkill!!! go for the record - i though i had it (chain of 200) but it looks like Majesano has gone further.

and yeah, i hate looking for shinies in the random spots they fall into. when i did larvitars, i went through all my boxes and pushed everything up to the top, so at least i knew they would be connected in each box....

i would highly recommend route 222. there is an 11x11 patch of grass, meaning that if youre standing in the middle, there are no "edge squares". and good luck - dont be put off if it "doesnt work" for a while:D

Yes, Route 222. The one with Chatot's and all is the best place, you rarely have edge patches...

Notorious - Contrary to what Lorak said, having a diversity of pokemon is actually a very bad thing, because then all of the catch rates are far lower, so it's easier to break your chain. Those routes would still be ideal for swarms, however, which are 40% regardless. As mentioned, Route 222 is is in fact the easiest to chain on since you don't have any walls or trees obstructing you. In terms of diversity, the less pokemon the better.

Higher Appearance % = Higher Success %

Lorak - Those are some great pics you've posted, I loved the shiny chart, I bookmarked the shit out of that ;) . I'm also adding it the guide once I update, great find. Keep truckin' on that chain, hopefully your luck is better than my 111 Bronzor chain.

I was wondering diesel. Is the % of appearance a factor in chance of chain breaking? For example, will Nidoran M in diamond 2% break far more than your standard 40% swarm chain?

Yeah, a very big one IMO. It's all up to chance in the end, but after so many tries you're bound to get the average and see that, which explains why Eevee has been the only shiny I have aimed for that I haven't caught yet, because I can't get the damned chain to 40 =/

My mistake on the diversity. Sorry. D:

And hooray for me finding useful stuff! Still trucking, still hoping the Repels go the extra mile... So many steps... (549,450 protected steps, plus some extra from when I used a Max Repel right in front of the shopkeeper and bought another from immediately after, to getting to the field.)

Keep on truckin' Like a square wheel Lorak, like a Square Wheel;).

At chain Pokemon 131, where the 91th shiny has been moved to Box 1. Since I cleared out Boxes 1-5 entirely in preparation for this, this means I only (Ha, only, listen to me...) have room for 149 more shinies of this chain. @_@

And apparently, I have another chance at a 1000th post. xD

EDIT: My luck's been picking up for Pokemon 80-131. If things stand as they are with Repel usage, I very well could get to 149, with absurd luck. A more realistic projection would be about 80-95 more shinies.

forbidden - Yea it is, as Pablo (no Meza?!) said. That's why with things like Magnemite, Bronzor, Starly, or really any swarm is so much easier to chain. If you're relatively non-conservative in the early going of the chain like I tend to be, you'll notice that you can walk into just about any square and not break your chain if you're lucky. With low catch rate pokes it's not uncommon to break your chain at 5 if you're entering any 4-away.

The same cannot be said for encounter shiny patches though, which is interesting. To my knowledge the shiny patch encounter rate is universal (1/200), and that's probably a good thing.

Yea, if you've been having a lot of trouble, that's why. I'd still give it a try though if you haven't already. Like I said, after 40 it's all the same shiny-wise, so if you can get there you're in the clear.

Bronzor
Brave - Heatproof
29 | 29 | 31 | 14 | 21 | 11

Relaxed - Levitate
29 | 22 | 27 | 28 | 18 | 20

This was a pretty disappointing chain on the whole. It took forever, since I broke it at 111 (longest chain ever). My synch was Sassy, and I was hoping to get something spectacular. Unfortunately, the Sassy ones are less than great. I'm still sorting through them, so I'll post the best ones when I'm done being pissed at them. -___-

Anyway, hope everyone does good work!

crikey! i was hoping to get a good levitating bronzor, but all my good ones turned out heatproof.

Houndoom
Timid - Flash Fire
S | H | I | T | T | Y

More Houndoom frustration for Diesel!! I caught 3 shinies, the first two of which were Quirky, the third of which had some of the most disgraceful IV's I've ever witnessed. I got Roared away (again!!!) on 41. I put it to sleep, used False Swipe, and it woke up and sent my running for the fences. So frustrating, I've almost never encountered 2-turn sleep, so I basically forgot it existed. I was going to look it up on the internet but my iPhone didn't have service where I was. Anyway, needless to say I won't be making that mistake a third time. I'm going to get a good one of these if it's the last thing I do.

are you using a smeargle with spore and false swipe to catch them? why not teach it taunt as well ;)

oh, and just a quick report on some findings ive been having.... in regards to "ideal pattern formations"......

ive been doing things very strictly during the pre-40 stage, and only going into a patch if it obeys all the usual rules (4-away, right kind of rustle, not next to the 3-away, not in corner etc etc etc), as well as what i call the 1-1-2 rule. basically, if there are 2 patches in one quadrant, and the other two patches are in separate quadrants. eg:

444444444
433333334
4322222
34
432111234
432101234
432
111234
432222
234
43333333
4
444444444

its probably severe overkill, but ive only had one or two unsuccessful chains using this method. one of them was in a bizzarre incident where not only did have the right kind of pattern, but the 4-away was glittery and the other 3 were plain green (i was chaining the glittery patches) and the chain still broke....

At 141 for now, may go a bit further tonight. Hoping to get to 200 on the chain. Really hoping for 200 shinies (240 chain), but I'd be happy with the latter.

tell you what. if you get to 200, i'll let you trade me your mew :p

Basically all my decent Sassy ones had Heatproof. I got 74 shiny Bronzors and all the Sassy ones blew. Probably 50 of the 74 had usable natures too, mostly Sassy. I was really hoping to duplicate the success I had with Metagross and get a pokemon everyone wants, but alas, didn't happen.

Unfortunately my Spore/Swiper is a hacked Mew, so I can't teach it Taunt >.> All I really need is for my Cradily or Electrode to be able to do the correct amount of damage. It's pretty easily sorted out I think.

Okay gonna try my luck at snovers

Should I get quiet, timid, or sassy? I'm sort of leaning towards timid or quiet since I will be breeding for a snover as well...
