it 2hkoes ferrothorn at +2!

SD Gliscor doesn't need to lure Ferro it beats it anyway...

Week 20: Physically Defensive Skarmory
227.gif

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Defog
-Iron Head
- Whirlwind

The Pokemon for Week 20 is Chansey's partner Skarmory! Skarmory despite being on Stall teams does have a great Typing being Steel and Flying, meanwhile having only two Weaknesses being Fire and Electric. This fantastic Dual Typing and decent bulk makes Skarmory a very good Pokemon to check other Pokemon such as Azumarill, Landorus-Therian, Mega Diancie, and etc. Skarmory also gets many Field Hazard moves such as Spikes, Stealth Rock, and Defog and with it's Bulk+Typing it will definitely get atleast 1 more Hazards.

jirachi.gif

Jirachi @ Expert Belt
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 132 Atk / 160 SpA / 216 Spe
Mild Nature
- Iron Head
- Icy Wind
- Hidden Power Ground / Hidden Power Fire
- Thunderbolt

Since mixed Jirachi is pretty rare nowadays, Skarmory can normally switch into Jirachi with ease, not even fearing Fire Punch from Choice Scarf. However, Mixrachi can easily 2HKO Skarmory with Thunderbolt.

160+ SpA Jirachi Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Skarmory: 222-262 (66.4 - 78.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Smack Down Landorus-T

landorus-therian.gif

Landorus-Therian @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 8 SpD / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Smack Down
- Stealth Rock

As the most used Landorus-T set,a physically bulky Landorus-T can be walled by Skarmory and Defoged freely. While Smack Down here do help.
Smack Down also hits Rotom-W,while you need to predict for its switching-in for there is a risk of get Hydro Pumped or Will-o-Wisped.

0 Atk Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 168-200 (50.2 - 59.8%) -- 85.5% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Final Gambit Staraptor

staraptor.gif

Staraptor @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Reckless
EVs: 176 HP / 80 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Final Gambit

It has a 355 Max HP,can Final Gambit any set of Skarmory and Ferrothorn, while it is important to break the Sturdy before your suicide action.
A Stealth Rock helps.

Wild Charge Diggersby

Diggersby @ Life Orb
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant/Jolly Nature
- Return
- Earthquake
- Wild Charge
- Swords Dance

252+ Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Wild Charge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 190-224 (56.8 - 67%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
or even
252 Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Wild Charge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 172-203 (51.4 - 60.7%) -- 91.8% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

===> so after a +2, this bunny OHKOes Skarmory (if Sturdy is gone) with both Adamant and Jolly nature

Adamant is the preferred nature because it can do this:
  • 252+ Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Wild Charge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Gengar: 250-294 (96.5 - 113.5%) -- 75% chance to OHKO
  • 252+ Atk Life Orb Huge Power Diggersby Wild Charge vs. 252 HP / 232+ Def Slowbro: 226-268 (57.3 - 68%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery (+Earthquake)
  • 2HKOes Alomomola with Earthquake if you don't want the recoil

The concept is simple: in the first turn use Swords Dance and click Wild Charge instead of Return/Earthquake which are pretty much useless towards Defensive Skarmory which would be the absolute counter without the coverage move.

This lure is pretty basic but unexpected: while the main STAB of Diggersby is resisted hopelessly by Defensive Skarmory (or even SpD Skarmory), Wild Charge is a suicidal move very useful towards many bulky waters (i.e. Slowbro, Alomomola).

P.S. When using this lure keep well in mind that this bunny won't last long due its low HP and defensive stats + the Life Orb recoil.

latios.gif

Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Thunderbolt
- Defog

SKarmory is usually a hard counter for latios, easily switching into its STAB moves and defogging on it for free, but with thunderbolt latios can lure in skarmory ohko the defensive set quite easily given that sturdy is broken, making way for teammates like scizor or mega pinsir to sweep. Also, I'm pretty sure iron head is mainly used on the specially defensive set as a fairy check, but isn't too good on this one since it takes so much from special attacks iirc.

Calcs
252 SpA Life Orb Latios Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Skarmory: 341-403 (102 - 120.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 Atk Skarmory Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Latios: 87-103 (29 - 34.4%) -- 4.7% chance to 3HKO

Garchomp @ Life Orb
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Stealth Rock

Yeah, so most Garchomp sets nowadays are TankChomp, and the Life Orb set is especially rare and especially devastating. Most Skamory will mindlessly switch in, really not fearing too much. However, with a Life Orb and max investment, Fire Blast puts a massive dent into Skarmory's HP, making it unable to switch in again.
FYI is it physically defensive or SpD Skarm? The post says SpD but the set is physically defensive. This works for either, but I was just wondering.

252 SpA Life Orb Garchomp Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Skarmory: 205-242 (61.3 - 72.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Project Lure that Threat V2 (Week 20 Physically Defensive Skarmory)?

Week 20: Specially Defensive Skarmory

The title specifies the specially defensive variant while the spread and nature suggests that it's the physically defensive one. Which one is it then?

Edit: ugh... ninja'd once again (first one of the year!).

If Skarmory is physically defensive:
altaria-mega.gif

Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Return
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast

Skarmory is perfectly equiped to dispose of M-Altaria: it has great dual typing, Whirlwind to prevent being setup on and Roost for reliable recovery. However, if M-Altaria decides to run Fire Blast over Roost in its last moveslot, Skarmory wouldn't be able to safely switch into it since it'll be easily 2HKOed by that move (even with a hindering nature). Fire Blast is also useful to lure in other Steel-types like Ferrothorn and (Mega) Scizor.
252+ Atk Pixilate Mega Altaria Return vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 60-71 (18 - 21.3%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery

0- SpA Mega Altaria Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Skarmory: 204-242 (61.2 - 72.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

If Skarmory is specially defensive (physically defensive works even better):
altaria-mega.gif

Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Cloud Nine
EVs: 248 HP / 168 SpA / 92 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Fire Blast
- Roost
- Earthquake / Heal Bell

Once again, Skarmory is perfectly equiped to dispose of M-Altaria: it has great dual typing, Roost for reliable recovery and even Iron Head to deal decent damage to Fairy-types. However, since this specific set isn't commonly used (less than 3.6% in the 1695 elos and less than 4.1% in the 1825 elos) even if it can be found in the SmogDex, it certainly won't be expected by opposing Skarmorys. All in all, special attacking M-Altaria easiliy lures in specially defensive Skarmory and 2HKOes it with Fire Blast.
168+ SpA Mega Altaria Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Skarmory: 198-234 (59.4 - 70.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

tornadus-therian.gif

Tornadus-Therian (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 96 HP / 160 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Knock Off
- Heat Wave
- U-turn

ok I have no idea what kind of Skarm this is since the title and EV spread say physical and the post and moves say special (never seen Iron Head Physically Defensive Skarm before so idk). I'm just assuming that it is Physically Defensive Skarm, if it turns out it isn't I'll just switch this to Life Orb and it'll work anyways

Anyways Skarm is able to switch into AV Torn fairly easily, since Torn usually is running Superpower. Heat Wave allows Torn to KO Skarmory after Rocks and Hurricane damage

160 SpA Tornadus-T Hurricane vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Skarmory: 99-117 (29.6 - 35%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
160 SpA Tornadus-T Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Skarmory: 228-270 (68.2 - 80.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
