Project Lure that Threat V2

(In my opinion, this is a good lure because Mew is generally a safe switch-in for Diance, so changing a coverage move makes sense)

Week 25: Defensive Amoonguss

amoonguss.gif

Amoonguss @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD
Bold Nature
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb / Clear Smog
- Stun Spore / HP Fire / Foul Play / Synthesis

Amoonguss is a really nice defensive mon that can check some stuff similar to Mega Venusaur, but has Regenerator to help maintain itself over the course of a game. For that reason, it works out better with sand teams than Mega Venusaur (Synthesis being only 25% instead of 50%), and having the ability to put something to sleep with 100% accuracy can be huge in some games. Clear Smog is a cool move that lets Amoonguss return mons that setup back to normal, thus forcing the opponent to restart their attempt at a sweep.

diancie-mega.gif

Diancie @ Diancite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD
Naive Nature
- Moonblast
- Diamond Storm
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Fire] / Protect / Earth Power

Amoonguss is generally a pretty good switchin to Diancie since it avoids the 2HKO from both HP Fire and Diamond Storm and 2HKOs back with Giga Drain, however it can't switch into a Psychic from it at all :

224 SpA Mega Diancie Psychic vs. 252 HP / 96 SpD Amoonguss: 242-286 (56 - 66.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery

Reserving LO Offensive Lure Clef

LO Lure Clef (Clefable) @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 168 HP / 252 SpA / 88 Spe
Modest Nature
- Moonblast
- Fire Blast
- Ice Beam / Focus Blast / Psychic
- Thunderbolt

Under normal circumstances, Amoon is a p good switch in to Clef, as it can clear smog to stop it boosting too high or just spore it, while Clef can only TWave or Flamethrower it, which needs Calm Mind's to beat it. However, this fresh LO Lure Clef can not only 2HKO Amoon but also deal with a plethora of mons with its massive coverage. It already naturally outspeeds Amoon so the speed is for standard Band Azu and everything below.

Calcs:
252+ SpA Life Orb Clefable Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 120 SpD Amoonguss: 289-341 (66.8 - 78.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery

Azumarill @ Watmel Berry / Starf Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Natural Gift
- Aqua Jet
- Knock Off / Waterfall
- Knock Off / Play Rough

Azumarill is usually complete Amoonguss bait. However, with Natural Gift Fire or Psychic, Azumarill is able to KO with KOff+NG after rocks damage, which allows it to break through this so-called "counter." NG Fire lets it break through Ferrothorn and other random steels that happen to wall it whereas NG Psychic allows it to nail Poison-types in general as well as Mega Venusaur.

Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 92 HP / 252 Atk / 164 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Knock Off

I think BD Knock Off Azu is a better lure to Amoonguss than NG Fire because it covers a lot more pokemon than only the ones weak to fire, such as Tentacruel, Skarmory, MVenusaur (if you go Return> KO) and Slowbro. Idea is pretty simple: click Belly Drum against a mon that can't really hurt you and OHKO Amoonguss with a +6 Knock Off

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 160+ Def Amoonguss: 510-601 (118 - 139.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

keldeo.gif

Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power Flying

Almost any Amoongus can stop Keldeo in its tracks but with HP Flying and Stealth Rocks Keldeo is able to 2HKO Amoongus on the switch.

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hidden Power Flying vs. 252 HP / 96 SpD Amoonguss: 210-248 (48.6 - 57.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery

Return Azumarill

Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Return

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Return vs. 252 HP / 160+ Def Amoonguss: 202-238 (46.7 - 55%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery

Generally Azumarill is hopelessly walled by Amoongos with this physical spread, but Choice Band + Return (useful even towards other Grass/Poison types) is really useful. Stealth Rock is assumed up on the field due to the fact the mushroom is a pivot with switches in&out a lot.

Just saying,Venusaur often run a 200 Speed to outspeed 199 - the highest speed an adamant Azumarill can reach. We may need Jolly Belly Drum Return set to kill Mega Venusaur.

+6 252 Atk Huge Power Azumarill Return vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Mega Venusaur: 309-364 (84.8 - 100%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

A bit previous damage is needed.

But you inspired me,a Choice Band Return Azumarill can pass Amoonguss.

Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 248 Def / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Return
- Aqua Jet
- Knock Off
- Play Rough

Just ignore the strange EV spread on Def,I just want to check Zard-X harder,it doesn't matter here.

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Return vs. 252 HP / 160+ Def Amoonguss: 202-238 (46.7 - 55%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery

Reserving Return Azumarill

so many Azumarill lol

altaria-mega.gif

Fire Blast Mega Altaria

Altaria-Mega @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 168 SpA / 92 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Roost

So special mega altaria has like little to no usage which makes it able to lure amoonguss, skarm, scizor with fire blast since most expect ddance sets.

168+ SpA Mega Altaria Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 120 SpD Amoonguss: 228-270 (52.7 - 62.5%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery

Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Return
- Earthquake
- Outrage

This set may be quite old but it still does what it needs to; lure in Talonflame, Amoonguss and Mega Venusaur and smash them hard with an unboosted Outrage, which 2HKOes after Stealth Rock. If Amoonguss has some prior damage (say, about 15%), then a +1 Outrage still has a reasonable chance to OHKO it after Stealth Rock.

raikou.gif

Raikou @ Choice Specs
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power Ice
- Extrasensory

Amoonguss can usually switch into any move that Raikou wants to go for, since Raikou is one of the weakest electric types in the tier, but when Raikou forgoes shadow ball for extrasensory on the specs set, which is pretty uncommon rn, then Amoonguss can be surprised and cleanly 2HKO'd.

252 SpA Choice Specs Raikou Extrasensory vs. 252 HP / 96 SpD Amoonguss: 258-304 (59.7 - 70.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery
