Dunno, how many have heard about this. I remember a topic I posted a long time ago with a vid of Koffing in action in this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.U.G.E.N.

Basically, 800+ characters in a single fighting game, pretty much anyone you can name. Also a few clever chaps created some bonus stages that allow for some.. INTERESTING ideas. Like Godzilla in Super Mario Bros or perhaps even Contra

So yeah, anyone else heard of this? I've been playing around with this for quite a while.

It's been around for a while. Infact, understatement, it's ancient. It's awesome, no doubt about it, but it doesn't hold a candle against true fighting games. It's more for just screwing around and making dream matches. IMO atleast.

An irl friend of mine is spending all his free time designing his own Magus sprites based off a Guilty Gear character. He's already made his own version of the damn thing with like 5 different versions of Rugal @_@

I've heard of M.U.G.E.N. Actually I know about a lot of freeware games. While I myself have only tried out once, a friend spends all his time creating characters. He's made versions of Tekken characters, Soul Caliber characters, Street Fighter characters, and lots more other fighting games.

i always kinda wanted to tweak with this. i will try it sooner or later today, it seems very interesting.

EDIT: DUDE i checked out ajc's links and fuck I totally wanna beat up people with omega zero now.

i would love to mess around with this, but i have heard that it is extremely time-consuming and complicated : (

EDIT: DUDE i checked out ajc's links and fuck I totally wanna beat up people with omega zero now.

Omega Zero is perhaps one of my few personal favorites, despite how cheap he can be with the AI on. I believe N64Mario's site (the dude who made both Omega Zero and the famous Killer Whale) still has the old version of OZ up that includes Shadow Omega (which was removed in the updated version), who's just fucking crazy fast.

Him and the various versions of Shredder that are out there = fun stuff if you like getting raped under a minute

EDIT: AJC, you forgot about Mugen Infantry, but I don't feel like getting busted for advertising.

i asked neokamek (a dude i know on youtube) to beat Omega with that lil' dude Metool. you know, the tiny helmet-wearing guys in Megaman.

i like mugen as a game, though i can't go too much into pro because i'd have to download a megaton of characters, half of which may not show up on my character screen (ie Iori and Dragon Claw) even though I installed them right.

lol! this is fucking old school shit! i've never programmed any M.U.G.E.N, but I've played it. It's a lot of fun! Lol.

Actually, Glen, what is hard is making chars, stages, screenpacks and the etceteras. Installing the stuff is really easy.

I've been messing with Mugen lately. It is fun but the lack of balance between the chars is really depressing sometimes. For example, Sander71113's chars recover wayyyy too fast and you end up stuck in your block position a good load of time. Also, I heard of some dudes that have made beating Evil Ken and Evil Ryu their life goals. Heh.

M.U.G.E.N. is a great little side project for people interested in that sort of thing, but it'll never be the end all to be all fighter for the fighter genre. Heck, chances are it'll never even see the level of appreciation other PC based fighters like Melty Blood receive.
