Basilisk Collar was in Worldwake, scrubbies. Trusty Machete is actually quite usable anyway, I don't know why you'd be making fun of that.

Oh shit oh shit oh shit PLEASE Invasion + Ravnica + any core set that doesn't have a Titan! Pretty please :3

Trusty Machete is quite usable... in limited. Collar is fine but I am not going to be afraid when my opponent searches it up with their Stoneforge Mystic, which is quite different from how I would feel if they searched up Sword of x and x or Batterskull.

I'm fine with block or build-your-own standard, both can be very fun =D

AFAIK, none of the irc regulars play Riku. Neither do I, but I bought the precon for him the other day because it was on sale.

Any suggestions?

I play him, my suggestion is to maximize mana ramp and card draw. Riku has an interesting conflict where to maximize his power you need a lot of mana, but if you have that mana its hard to have cards in your hand.

Sphinx of Uthuu, Consecrated Sphinx, Primeval Titan, Sensei's Top, Lotus Cobra, Yavimaya Elder: this is a good support suite. In my deck I run azusa, lost but seeking, oracle of muldaya, and exploration (this is irl) as well. Your goal is to cast riku on turn 4 and have 9 mana on turn 6.

Getting there: Riku has a lot of trouble getting there sometimes, here are some affective ways:

1. Tooth and Nail:by far the most effective way, a copied entwined tooth and nail will win you the game most of the time. Fetch Terastodon, Kiki-jiki, Blightsteel, and Deceiver Exarch. Some play groups ban infinite combos or just outright ban Kiki-jiki, in that case fetch Teferi, Seedborn Muse, Consecrated Sphinx, and Primeval Titan/Terastodon.

2. Copied Murkfiend Liege +Copied Overrun. With board presence of Riku, 2 Liegies and a random U/G card like Coiling Oracle or Intet or mystic snake you can deal 40+ damage this way in one turn.

3. Copied Primeval Titan-> copied comet storm level mana. If you can up to around 25 mana you can use comet storm to burn the field out, as riku will copy the kicker.

Also Riku is a creature based deck, the spell based version is a lot less good.

Well, I made a Riku deck to complement my Teysa. All five colors between my two decks, yo. But then I've never really gotten to test it out and it just seems so tryhard-douchebaggy anyway that I kinda don't even want to get it streamlined. :( That was a while ago now though, I'd need to update it for M12/ISD even if I gave a crap.

And Exarch/Pestermite + Kiki-Jiji win by themselves, copying T&N just gives you two irrelevant dudes on top of that.

Here's another idea. How about a Single Rarity tournament?

I mean like either make it only Commons or Mythics, etc. (with exception of lands).

It could be a pretty damn fun format if everyone can only use "weak" cards (Lightning bolt could be ridiculous), or even better imo if we can only use the (usually high cost) uber-rare creatures and spells. Games might actually last more than two/three rounds. :0

Pauper is a format where only commons are allowed (limited to MTGO releases, so Hymn to Tourach is not allowed as it is an uncommon in the set that is was released in on MTGO despite being a common in real life), and is quite popular on MTGO (and some real-life areas as well).

Alright well congrats everyone on participating in a very fun tournament. Hope you all had a good time and obviously there is a lot of support so lets try for another tourney in a month or so.

So far the consensus for the next tournament would be a block format. Why don't you all vote on which block you want to do. I'll organize again unless someone has an objection, but like I said, lets wait a little bit. Don't want to burn people out :)

Kamigawa block format was retarded with the legendary rules that existed at the time, but if we played with the updated rules it would be better. Speaking of which, if we play a pre-m10 block constructed format, are we going to use the old damge rules or new ones? Certain cards are SIGNFICANTLY better with the old damage rules than they are now.

What? The new legend rule was created when Kamigawa was released, pretty much because Kamigawa was released; Kamigawa has always used the modern legend rule...

A different block each round could be cool. I personally am I fan of Kamigawa block, as well as the Mirrodins and Alara.

edit: if you don't like Kamigawa go eat a chode

Ravnica for block tournament! I like Vader's idea too, we should let more than one block get some limelight. Although, imo, Kamigawa sounds painful...

Ya definitely Vader's idea, but guys I'll probably be more selective about who joins this tournament since that is a lot of deck building and this time you can't netdeck stuff (as much...)

Woooo this tournament sounds fun, expect me to play a sweet control brew every round! (Sorry fellow control players, I commited a deadly sin last tourney and played green cards not all named tarmogoyf, I will make up for it this time)
