Magic: The Gathering

Not really - in CYOS you can actually make playable control decks (Ice Age has Force, Brainstorm, Swords, etc, and you can get Wrath from core sets). I find arbitrarily choosing Rav-Alara would merely confine people unnecessarily? (If we're still on the topic of arbitrarily chosen sets, then I would suggest once again 9-Kami-Rav(-CS) - a format not run by that monstrosity of a deck Jund, but where (almost) everything is playable.)

Does Gideon Jura's 3rd ability cause him to tap?

Not of its own accord, no. If after turning him into a creature, he attacks, then he will become tapped unless you have something giving him vigilance.

Best deck in standard? I play Wolf Run White, but it has a terrible Delver match up. I got Autumn's Veil's in the board, but it's not really enough.

I actually disagree Tea Demon. So far, this has been the biggest disappointment in a spoiler season for me to date. I absolutely love Innistrad; the flavor, the cards, the art, the mechanics. The only card that has remotely satisfied me as "OMG I CANT WAIT FOR DKA" is Zombie Apocalypse. That card is perfect for the block in every way. Everything else, even the new DFCs, are more of the "been there done that, and not even in a good way" type of feeling for me. Frankly, it seems to me like DKA is more like the INN "reject-pile" than anything else, which is unfortunate.

Undying though, is pretty great, Im just hoping something interesting comes up with it. I think my main concern with every card that has been spoiled so far is the evident huge lack of control cards. Spot removal is looking like it will be nearly useless in this full throttle aggro format (especially with all of the token generators, graveyard recursion methods and mechanics like Undying). Im seriously hoping there is some kind of card that balances this, otherwise we are looking at a format that is more like fast scissors>midrange scissors>slower scissors as opposed to the rock>paper>scissors that we are more used to.

Really, only Zombie Apocalypse? Because the new werewolves (and Immerwolf <3) are amazing.
-Huntmaster of the Fells' ability that activates each time it transforms either way? Yes, please!
-GG-producing Moonscarred Werewolf? Ramp just got a hell of a lot more exciting.
-Silverpelt Werewolf let's you draw cards when dealing damage? Hello, ramp and pseudo-control green (with maybe a pinch of blue) decks.
-Immerwolf? Absolutely AMAZING.

I also really love the card effects focusing on monster interactions with humans (see Ravenous Demon and Falkenrath Aristocrat.) It really acts as an expanse on lore made into mechanics considering the approaching horde set on a collision course with humanity.

My only problem is the lack of vampire coverage so far. I don't waaant to wait until next week to see if they can top Olivia's craziness! ;_;

Werewolves will not be viable in Standard, unless there's some crazy good one or two drop. I hope zombies are good, though. That 2/1 zombie that comes back into play if u have a zombie seems sick

Bah! Who needs Standard? Modern is a great format for wolves.
Either way, Reckless Waif and Wolfbitten Captive are pretty decent for one drops, imo. And with Moonmist to transform other wolves on turn two or later and now Immerwolf pn turn three+ to keep from transforming back, I can see wolf decks getting a lot more difficult to stop.

Modern is a terrible format for the wolves. The format is dominated by one drops, and the wolves you mentioned aren't great. Waif is pretty bad, and he Captive is ok, but he requires so much mana. Would you rather be casting Martyr of Sands, or a crappy wolf?

I don't play Magic very often, thought I'd share this.

I'm the bottom one.

Wolfbitten isnt good lol. It's ok if it isnt flipped, but when it's flipped it sucks. The other mythics aren't as good because wizards isn't trying to print any over powered cards anymore.

the only problem with dka is i hate all of the mythics so far except for sorin. they're just so un-mythic-feeling.

I feel ya, Falkenrath Aristocrat just doesn't seem epic enough to be a mythic. Although, Reaver works a bit better in that regard.

He means that they don't have the same lore-drenched feeling of past mythics. When you play with a mythic, you're supposed to feel like you're playing with some force of nature or long-standing evil, not with a... random nonlegendary vampire noble. :/

All of the mythics are pretty mythic. Gonna go through all the mythics right now!

Mikaeus the UnHallowed: Almost as powerful as a titan, or as powerful. Destroys all the U/W decks and Mage Blade decks. Even the mighty Invisible Stalker dies.

Beguiler of Wills: This thing rapes in limited. This couldn't be a rare because it'd be way too common. It's one of those cards where you have to answer or else you just lose, similar to Olivia in limited atm. Sick in EDH

Moonveil Dragon: Obviously nuts in limited. Probably decent in EDH but i don't play that.

Vorapede: If Mono Green aggro is a deck, this a 3-4 of. Lets all be thankful that it didn't have Haste over Vigil, or it'd be sick nasty. No need to go into too much detail for this guy

Drogskol Reaper: Limited bomb. Good in EDH. Too powerful to be a rare. Not the most outstanding mythic but whatevs

Falkenrath Aristocrat: Anything that kills u in 5 turns must be rare. The ability to not be removed is obviously incredible. Will probably see some constructed action and a limited bomb

Havengul Lich: People are gonna find a way to do something unfair with this guy. No explanation needed.

Huntmaster: Idk bout this guy. bomb in limited but idk what else to say

Sorin: obviously the nuts.

i mean they're obviously good cards but they're just so unexciting bar mikaeus and sorin. drogskol reaver is kinda cool though.

Idk about the ooze, it's either gonna be great or mediocre imo.

Ghoultree is pretty mediocre. Needs trample and idk if the self mill decks want that as their win condition, since it's kind of mediocre.

predator ooze seems to make mono-green sort of reasonable with him+dungrove elder hitting very hard. ghoultree is a 10/10 for potentially 1 mana; you don't need evasion to be worth it.

How long do you think it'll take for it to be a 10/10 for 1 mana? It'd probably take like 6 turns to make it a 10/10 for 6 mana, it'd probably take around 10 turns to make him a 10/10 for one mana. Not to mention the fact that he doesn't impact the board at all, when he enters the battle field. Why not just play a Primeval Titan which puts you in a commanding position as soon as it resolves, then hoping that you untap with a goultree and praying that they dont chump block it with Doomed Traveler or anything with undying.

The predator ooze is completely outclassed by Dungrove Elder. They're both going to be competing for a spot in a mono green deck, and I almost rather cast Dungrove Elder than cast a predator ooze that takes like 4 turns for it to actually become threatening(i'd never play these cards anyways xD). ooze might be good in sideboard against control, since they cant kill him outside of the two oblivion rings that control decks run.

remember that this is innistrad. ghoultree will be used in decks that chuck stuff in the bin anyway, so you can mulch or forbidden alchemy or whatever else to increase the amount of dudes there, so you could get him out idk t4? if you mulch for 3 dudes and then alchemy for 3 more (which i admit is not going to happen very often at all) you're fine, but then again it is already possible for t4 titan anyway.

also fuck grafdigger's cage.

Ghoultree wouldn't be as good as a titan if it cost 4 regularly. there's a reason that primeval titan is one of the best green creatures of recent years. look @ ghoultree and primeval titan. both require support. however, the upside for resolving a titan is soo much better. i'll fetch up my inkmoth and my kessig while you sit there getting chump blocked until I o-ring your shitty creature.

So friggin Dark Ascension is released, and i gotta say, it sucks. There's only like 10 or less cards that will contribute to constructed(NOT INCLUDING EDH GUYS). Those cards are Sorin, Grave Crawler, the Spectral Possesion with flash back, Evolving Wilds(gonna contribute the most), the black kitchen finks, faithless looting, and the mill two drag a card. There's probably one or two that i've neglected to think of but this set is changing the metagame, except for the fact that b/w tokens will likely be a deck and maybe esper control will get better.

Now the limited aspect, is amazing. I went to the pre-release yesterday and sealed was incredible. I managed to win, mostly cause all of the uncommons i got were either blue or white, and having three bonds of faith is kind of nuts. The format seems to be really balanced. best part of the pre-release was likely round 4, right before the top 8. I had to play a guy with what everyone called "mono-bomb control". EVERY RARE THE GUY PULLED WERE IN HIS COLORS. He had Curse of Deaths Hold, SORIN, the pre-release promo(not the one you get for joining, he actually opened it), two different angels, and Blood Line Keeper... I came into the round at 2-1, so i needed the win to get top 8. I won though, so it was all good.

Later, we did a draft of 1 Innistrad and two DKA, that was nice too. I didn't win but I was contempt with second.

Overall: DKA Constructed Constructed Contribution: 4 out of 10(should be a 2.5 but Evolving Wilds is gonna be fixing soooo many manabases).
DKA Limited Rating: 8.5 out of 10. I would give it a 9.5 if white wasn't by far the best color, but whatever. The limited format is really skill intensive because there are a lot of combat tricks. for example, the flash 2/3 flier in blue can destroy any decks momentum easily. My third round of the pre-release, a guy forgot to attack with his 2/2, and i was like "dude, your not attacking?". My opponent was like "oops i forgot". I let him attack and then flash in my 2/3 and everyone else proceeds to laugh their ass off. then i go onto bonds of faith or claustrophobia the rest of his creatures while i peck him to death with my 2/3. Great set for limited
