Making Good Choices - 10th on Ladder (OU RMT)

Thanks for the reply again, Stathakis. I'm really starting to actually see where you are going with this.

One thing I'd really like to clarify is this part:

but he's not backing up any claims with relevant information. he's simply saying this threat is rare so I don't wanna deal with it. let me restate my obi quote, "I'd rather win automatically vs. 75% of teams and have a chance vs. the other 25% than automatically win vs. 90% of teams and lose instantly to the other 10%."

It's not that I don't want to deal with them, I just felt the combo would be so rare that it'd be silly to change things up to deal with it. It appears I was wrong since a few guys have posted saying that they use it (3 I think?). As far as the other combinations, I really have a hard time believing that this can't be said for any team, but you've certainly justified your claims about the combos you mentioned.

Oh, and with your version of the team...is the SD Ape you are suggesting SD, Flare Blitz, CC, Stone Edge? I was still (obviously) under the impression that Mach Punch was included.

Without my Scizor, I'm terrified of Latias. Ideas on how to not make Scizor set up bait but still counter Latias?

lol I can't believe someone suggested ScarfJolt to me, because I actually did consider it myself but thought it'd be a horrible idea to scarf something with 130 base speed. It does seem to sure up lots of holes though! I think I'll try it out. I'm not ruling out LO Jolt yet either, or even LO Raikou for that matter as Husk brought up.

Salamence moveset is still up in the air. Idk what to do there honestly. The one thing I'm sure of though now is that I need Roost.

Sorry, I really g2g now and this response is rushed so sorry if I'm not making sense (again) or if I'm missing something.

First of all, Stathakis, I'm sorry if I came across as harsh. We've all had our share of bad days, and I probably should have been a little more understanding. I apologize if I insulted your team rating abilities. Also, because Stauffen has expressed a desire to bury this argument, I'll drop it after this post. I just wanted to defend myself a little.

We'll start here:

you are, in nearly every way, wrong.

Considering you conceded to a handful of points I made, this isn't really true. Anyways, to your credit, I was wrong in one case--but we'll get there soon enough.

On the topic of usage statistics... I think your point about using jolly Gyara/Agiligross was misinterpreted as being a specific threat instead of a general example (like you intended), and that's why he pulled usage statistics. And about your "if you had the option beating every threat or of beating almost every threat, which would you choose?" point: while beating every threat is idealistic and nice and certainly better than beating almost every threat, it's rarely (if ever) possible. There are too many threats for one team to cover, so team builders must focus on handling the most prevalent ones. That's the point of usage statistics, and that's why I don't see why a team should remodel itself and offset its current balance to cover something that's hardly ever seen. I know you personally disagree with this, so we'll just leave it at that.

I will admit that I was wrong about him beating Duggy + AgiliEmp + Gengar. You're right, that set of three pokes does beat him. I'm not exactly sure what I was thinking when I said it didn't--it was a response typed in haste, I suppose. I still don't think Salamence is a problem even combined with another sweeper, though, since he has four possible checks to Mence.

Okay, Lucario thing, misinterpretation.

About the DD Mence: what I think Stauffen, Panamaxis and myself were all trying to say is that DD Mence CAN break stall, but not as efficiently or as immediately as MixMence. If DD manages to set up, then he's great (as you've shown). However, it's often extremely difficult to get that DD in (as Pana has shown). You're right when you said that it's much easier with the team you yourself have contructed, as you can weaken DD Mence's counters with SD Ape. However, we were still focusing on which Mence to use for Stauffen's original team, so I suppose that's another miscommunication between all of us.

if "anything loses to combinations" then how does anyone win at all? a team is, in fact, a combination of 6 pokemon.

What I was implying with the whole "combinations" business was that we can make up hypothetical strings of pokes that, in conjuction with one another, completely screw over any team. All teams will be weak to certain combinations of certain pokemon, and because this problem exists for all teams, I don't think it's really fair criticism. That's all I was trying to get across. Your point about handling offensive teams in general is taken, though, and I agree with you about the change to LO Charge Beam Jolt.

Once again, I apologize if I insulted you or your ability. Your points are much clearer now, and I agree with most of them. I think the main problem here was a breakdown in communication. Anyways, have a nice day.

husk has a good suggestion with LO Raikou.. I've tried it myself and seems infinitely better in most cases execpt maybe killing a Adamanet Gyara after a DD.
