[OVERVIEW]
Meloetta has a solid typing of Normal / Psychic, only having two weaknesses: Bug-types and Dark-types, both of which are not very common typings in the 1v1 Metagame. With Meloetta's 100 HP and 77 Def, it can tank strong attacks like Garchomp's Tectonic Rage, and Pinsir-Mega's Giga Impact with the right EV investment. Since Meloetta has 100 HP and 128 SpD it can easily tank strong Special Attacks with no EV investment. Some of the attacks it can tank include Primarina's Hydro Vortex, Naganadel's Choice Specs Draco Meteor, and Greninja's Choice Specs Dark Pulse. Meloetta can tank strong attacks from the metagame's most powerful Pokemon like Landorus-Therian's Tectonic Rage, Kartana's Bloom Doom, Lopunny-Mega's Fake Out + Giga Impact, and even Donphan's Tectonic Rage + Ice Shard. It can also tank Charizard-Mega Y's Blast Burn and Porygon-Z's Hyper Beam. Meloetta does have the down side of losing to some of the most common offensive threats such as Snorlax, Mimikyu, Physical Dragonite, and Metagross-Mega. Since Meloetta has a base speed of 90, it makes it susceptible to strategies like Curse Mimikyu, Stall Mew and PP stall Deoxys-S.

Moves
========
Hyper Beam allows for the most powerful Z-Move possible. It's Meloetta's main STAB move and with a Normalium Z it can OHKO many Pokemon that don't resist Normal typing, such as Garchomp, non-Special Defense invested Charizard-Mega X, and even Landorus-Therian. Calm Mind allows Meloetta to set up versus opponents. With its great Special Defense it can tank multiple hits while boosting its Special Attack and Special Defense at the same time, which allows it to beat Pokemon such as Tapu Lele, Primarina, Tapu Fini, Magearna, if running Laser Focus, Heatran, and even Aegislash if it is not running Steelium-Z + Metal Sound.
Psyshock is another great STAB move for Meloetta to have. Psyshock allows Meloetta to take on Poison-types such as Nihilego and Gengar-Mega. It is great to have versus other Special Defense boosting Pokemon. When you're in a Special Stat boosting match, it's handy to be able to Psyshock your opponent's Pokemon as their Physical Defense stat might not have been boosted, thus dealing more damage. Shadow Ball is nice to have versus mainly Ghost-types such as Aegislash that doesn't run Steelium-Z + Metal Sound or non-Snarl Sableye-Mega. It also helps to beat some Steel-types like Aggron-Mega. Uproar is used for Substitute Pokemon like Whimsicott, Jumpluff, Substitute Lopunny-Mega, Substitute Charizard-Mega X and Y, Landorus-Therian, and even Pinsir-Mega. The perk of running Uproar over Hyper Voice is it doesn't allow your opponent to use a sleep-inducing move on you or heal up with Rest. However, you're locked into it for three turns. Laser Focus can be used on other set up Pokemon so that when you're both done setting up, you use Laser Focus and it makes your next move automatically crit. It is very useful for set up Pokemon like Magearna, Stall Mew that doesn't Taunt turn one, and Calm Mind Tapu Lele and Tapu Fini. You can also make use of Z-Laser Focus to beat PP stall Deoxys-S.
Set Details
========
Normalium Z is the best item for Meloetta because it is able to OHKO things that Choice Specs Meloetta can like Landorus-Therian, while also allowing you to set up, unlike the Choice Specs set. 204 HP + 252 Defense is used mainly to tank Lopunny-Mega's Adamant Fake Out + Giga Impact. It also allows it to survive Landorus-Therian's Tectonic Rage, Donphan's Tectonic Rage + Ice Shard, Pinsir-Mega's Giga Impact, Garchomp's Tectonic Rage / Devastating Drake, and so much more. The Timid nature + 16 Speed allows Meloetta to outpace Max Speed Magnezone, giving it a favorable match up. It also outpaces standard Zygarde-C sets and Tapu Fini sets. 252 HP + 132 SpD allows Meloetta to tank a Charizard-Mega Y's Modest Blast Burn. The rest of the EVs are put into Special Attack to maximize the roll to OHKO uninvested Mega Charizard Y. This Specially Defensive Meloetta set deals with Magnezone much better.
Usage Tips
========
Meloetta matches up well versus 1v1's dominant special attacking Pokemon like Magearna, Tapu Lele, Magnezone, Porygon-Z, Aegislash, Primarina, and Tapu Fini. It can easily tank multiple hits and set up in their face, while the opposing Pokemon can't do anything about it. Meloetta is a good pick versus frail Pokemon like Porygon-Z and Naganadel as it can soak up hits and OHKO it with a Breakneck Blitz. Meloetta can be sent out against common physical threats like Landorus-Therian, Donphan, and even Zygarde-C. Meloetta has a straight foward playstyle. It should Breakneck Blitz against Pokemon it can OHKO like Naganadel and Lopunny-Mega and it should Calm Mind against other set up Pokemon like Tapu Fini and Slowbro-Mega or Calm Mind against Pokemon Meloetta cannot OHKO like standard Zygarde-C or Primarina.
Team Options
========
Meloetta struggles versus most Steel-type and Rock-type Pokemon like Mega Metagross, Mega Aggron, and Genesect, Golem, Crustle, and Tyranitar-Mega. For this reason, Ground-types are solid teammates for Meloetta such as Zygarde-C or Landorus-Therian. Meloetta is weak to Dark and Bug-type Pokemon. Some examples of these would be Gyarados-Mega, Genesect, Volcarona, and Sableye-Mega. Pokemon like Calm Mind Fini or Bulky Charizard-Mega X could be helpful.
Meloetta is defeated by faster stall Pokemon such as Deoxys-S and Mew. It also stuggles versus Pokemon that can tank multiple hits due to their ability, these Pokemon include the likes of Mimikyu and Dragonite. This is why Flame Charge + Swords Dance Charizard-Mega X would make a solid partner. Steel-types in general also make solid partners for Meloetta, beating the likes of Mimikyu and fast plus strong special attacker like Gardevoir-Mega.

Moves
=======
Hyper Beam is Meloetta's strongest STAB attack and helps in OHKOing Zygarde-C, non-Specially Bulky Tapu Lele, and even Primarina. Uproar is used because it helps defeat Substitute and Sleep users like Whimsicott, and Jumpluff. Hitting Pokemon behind Substitutes is all around handy. Meloetta can run many moves in its next slot. Focus Blast helps beat Heatran, non Mirror Coat Magnezone unreliably, Ferrothorn unreliably, and even Porygon2. Psyshock can be used for Pokemon like Nihilego and Blissey, whoch otherwise wall Meloetta. Shadow Ball works well against Aegislash, and can even win match ups against PP stall Deoxys-Speed. The last option is Thunderbolt, Thunderbolt lets Meloetta always beat Slowbro-Mega, helps it beat Tapu Fini and can even pull out win against non Crunch and fast Gyarados-Mega's. In the last slot we have Hidden Power Fire or one of the moves mentioned above, Psyshock, Shadow Ball, or Thunderbolt. Hidden Power Fire lets Meloetta beat Genesect, Ferrothorn reliably, non Mirror Coat Magnezone reliably, Choice Specs Magearna, and even has better chances of beating Metal Burst Aggron or Metal Burst Aggron-Mega.
Set Details
=======
136 Speed allows Meloetta to creep Heracross-Mega and OHKO with a Choice Specs Hyper Beam. 252 Special Attack is used to maximize offensive power and give it the advantage to OHKO Pokemon like Primarina and even OHKO Specially Defensive Charizard-Mega X. The rest of the EVs are placed into HP to make it as bulky as it can be.
Usage Tips
=======
Since Meloetta has amazing Special bulk it should be sent out against dominant Special Attackers like Naganadel, Tapu Lele, Tapu Fini, Greninja, Genesect and even non fast Kommo-o, as it can take a hit from any of them and OHKO back or 2HKO. Meloetta can win against a lot of wall in the Metagame like Slowbro-Mega, Venusaur-Mega, and Blissey. Meloetta is good against Physical attackers it can outspeed and OHKO or live a hit and OHKO like, Tapu Bulu, Choice Scarf Garchomp, and even Specially Defensive Charizard-Mega X. Meloetta should not be sent out against faster Pokemon that can OHKO or Pokemon that can live a hit and OHKO like fast Landorus-T, Lopunny-Mega, Donphan, Golem, Charizard-Mega Y, Mimikyu, Metagross-Mega, and Snorlax.
Team Options
=======
Since Meloetta is weak to Dark-types and Bug-types, Pokemon like Mawile-Mega or Magearna can cover Meloetta's weaknesses and bait in Pokemon like Genesect to lose to Meloetta. Since Meloetta struggles against many Steel-types, due to both of its STABs being resisted, Pokemon such as Zygarde-C or Landorus-T can cover Meloetta's weakness to Steel-types. Pokemon such as Excadrill help Meloetta out against Pokemon like Snorlax, Mimikyu, and Metagross-Mega.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Scarf Meloetta is very uncommon and is used as a niche type set. Scarf allows it to beat Pokemon like Charizard-Mega X without having to predict, Lopunny-Mega, while not having to run bulk, and even non-Choice Scarfed Durant. Choice Scarf Meloetta would run Hyper Beam, Uproar, Thunderbolt, Focus Blast, Hidden Power Fire, Psyshock, and Shadow Ball. Choice Scarf Meloetta doesn't beat much in the Metagame and is overall very gimmicky. Trick Room is another move option for the Normalium-Z Meloetta. Trick Room is usually only handy for Charizard-Mega X and Y, and Slowbro-Mega. Trick Room helps Meloetta scout for Substitute on both Charizard-Mega forms. To reliably beat Slowbro-Mega with Trick Room, Meloetta needs to set up three Calm Minds. After setting up three Calm Minds, Meloetta should then use Trick Room. Meloetta then finishes setting up its Calm Minds and there will be one turn of Trick Room left. On the last turn of Trick Room Meloetta should use Breakneck Blitz followed by a Hyper Beam. Since Slowbro-Mega moves first it can't heal up after you use your Z-Move. Then you outspeed it the next turn and finish it out with Hyper Beam. The main reason this wasn't included in the main set is because it is only there for a few Pokemon, Charizard-Mega X and Y, and Slowbro-Mega.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Steel-types**: Pokemon like Metagross-Mega, Mawile-Mega Genesect and Excadrill wall it or OHKO it before it can KO them.
**Bug-types**: Pretty much any viable Bug-type in 1v1 OHKOs Meloetta or at least lives a hit and 2HKO back. These Pokemon include Genesect, Volcarona, Heracross-Mega, Pheromosa, and Crustle.
**Hard-hitting physical attackers**: Pokemon such as Physical Dragonite, Mimikyu, Snorlax, Sawk, Tapu Bulu, Medicham-Mega are too much for Meloetta to handle. All of these Pokemon either OHKO Meloetta or can tank a hit.
**Dark-types**: Although there isn't many Dark-types in 1v1, few can still be somewhat troublesome for Meloetta. Gyarados-Mega, Sableye-Mega, Hoopa-U, and Greninja can all pose a threat. Now, most of these Pokemon can actually be handled by Meloetta. For example, Gyardos-Mega not carrying Crunch will lose to Meloetta, Hoopa-U not running Darkinium Z, fast Choice Band, or Choice Scarf will lose to Meloetta, and Greninja running the common Choice Specs set loses to Meloetta. However, these Pokemon can carry certain moves or items to beat Meloetta. Gyarados-Mega can run Crunch to beat Meloetta, Hoopa-U can run Darkium, fast Choice Band, or Physical Choice Scarf, and Greninja can run Darkinium Z + Modest to OHKO Physically Defensive Meloetta. Greninja can also run Shadow Sneak to play mind games and come out with the win.
**Stall Pokemon**: There are two stall Pokemon in particular that pose a threat to Meloetta. Those would be Stall Mew, and Deoxys-S. They both are much faster than Meloetta and can use Taunt or Amnesia. If Mew or Deoxys-S isn't running a lot of special bulk or don't Taunt turn one then Meloetta can sometime get away with a first turn Laser Focus, then OHKO Mew or Deoxys-S. This is relied on basically a 50/50. Another Stall Pokemon that gives Meloetta trouble is a Toxic Chansey that uses Soft-Boiled correctly. This can be played around at times, but it isn't ever an easy win.
