Meowstic-F [Done]

QC: Anty / Galbia / GrimoireGod
GP: GatoDelFuego (with Lucina09's help) / P Squared

[OVERVIEW]
With its ability Competitive, Meowstic-F has a niche in being able to switch into a Defog and get a +2 Special Attack boost. Meowstic-F faces competition from other Psychic-types, such as Mr. Mime and Kadabra, which both outclass Meowstic-F on many points. The reason to use Meowstic-F over them is because of its ability. As a Defog discourager, it also faces enormous competition from Pawniard, which is the more effective Pokemon in general; however, Meowstic-F has a better Speed tier and hits popular Pokemon such as Poliwrath and Roselia harder. Meowstic-F has trouble dealing with Dark-types such as Mightyena and Pawniard, as it cannot hit very hard until it gets a Special Attack boost. A combination of Meowstic-F's bad defensive stats and Speed tier, which leaves it outsped by common Choice Scarf users and faster Pokemon, such as Raichu and Floatzel means that even with a Special Attack boost it won't be able to sweep.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Psychic is Meowstic-F's strongest STAB move, hitting popular Fighting- and Poison-types such as Poliwrath and Roselia for a lot of damage. Hidden Power Fighting helps Meowstic-F hit Dark- and Steel-types, such as Pawniard and Probopass, for super effective damage. Shadow Ball allows it to hit Ghost- and Psychic-types such as Misdreavus, Dusclops, and Grumpig for super effective damage. Thunder Wave can be used to slow down threats such as Barbaracle and Regice and prevents Meowstic-F from being a setup fodder against these Pokemon. Substitute can also be used to dodge status from Pokemon such as Grumpig and Sucker Punch from Pawniard and Mightyena.

Set Details
========

Maximum Speed and Special Attack EVs with a Timid Nature allow Meowstic-F to hit as hard as it can while outspeeding Pokemon such as Simipour, Dodrio, and Ninetales. Life Orb allows Meowstic-F to hit harder with all of its attacking moves at the cost of some of its health. The ability Competitive is needed, as it is Meowstic-F's only niche and will give it a +2 Special Attack boost whenever one of its stats gets lowered.

Usage Tips
========

Meowstic-F works best switching into Defog, which gives it a +2 Special Attack boost and allows it to hit very hard after. Try not to switch Meowstic into anything except Defog, as it is frail and won't take an attack well. Meowstic-F can also be used as a late-game cleaner if the opponent does not have a Defog user, but it needs faster Pokemon such as Zebstrika gone and special walls such as Lickilicky weakened. However, if the opponent does have a Defog user, it is best to use Meowstic-F as a wallbreaker once it gets the Competitive boost mid-game.

Team Options
========

Fighting-types such as Machoke and Poliwrath are good teammates for Meowstic-F, as they can switch into Dark-types and KO them with their super effective STAB moves. Entry hazard setters such as Whirlipede, Dwebble, and Leavanny are also good partners, as they can set up entry hazards and force the foe to use Defog, which Meowstic-F can switch into to get a free +2 Special Attack boost. Entry hazard support also helps to weaken Meowstic-F's counters. Meowstic-F should only be used on entry hazard-reliant teams, as its ability discourages the use of the move Defog, which is an annoyance for these teams. Because of its lack of bulk, Meowstic-F needs free switches in, which can be provided by slow U-turn, Volt Switch, and Baton Pass users such as Pelipper, Probopass, and Togetic.

Other Options
=============

Toxic is a useful move to cripple special walls such as Lickilicky more easily. Thunderbolt could be used to hit Water-types such as Pelipper, Barbaracle, and Carracosta for super effective damage. Calm Mind allows Meowstic-F to boost its damage output without relying on the foe to use Defog.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Special Walls**: Special walls such as Lickilicky, Clefairy, and Zweilous can switch into any move that Meowstic-F carries and proceed to do whatever they want. However, they have to be careful about switching in if Meowstic-F has gained a Competitive boost, as they risk being 2HKOed after just a little prior damage.

**Dark-types**: Dark-types check Meowstic-F very well because they can switch into its STAB move and hit Meowstic-F for super effective damage. Pawniard can trap Meowstic-F with Pursuit, set up a Swords Dance on the switch, or anticipate a Hidden Power Fighting and use Sucker Punch on Meowstic-F.

**Faster Pokemon**: Faster Pokemon such as Rapidash and Ninjask can easily revenge kill Meowstic-F because of its lack of bulk.

**Residual Damage**: Because of its vulnerability to entry hazards, status, and Life Orb recoil, Meowstic-F gets worn down very quickly. Residual damage also helps in getting Meowstic-F revenge killed by priority users.

I know this is WIP but since you're offline atm I might as well say it here so you see it when you get back on. Everything needs Bullet Points until you reach QC 2/3, not just overview, moves, and set details. In Checks and Counters you don't need to specifically mention every Pokemon that gives Meowstic trouble, instead you use something general like 'Special Walls' and say behind that how they trouble Meowstic and give some examples such as the Lickilicky and Clefairy you got at the moment. Checks and Counters also has a slightly different format than the rest which I'm sure you'll get confused with, so example here:

**Special Walls**: Special walls such as Lickilicky and Clefairy can switch into any move that Meowstic-F carries and proceed to do whatever they want. However, they have to be careful about switching in if Meowstic-F has gained a Competitive boost as they risk being 2HKOed by Psychic after just a little prior damage etc etc etc

Just wrote most of that for you which I won't do in the future but it's useful as an example. Additional checks and counters could be 'Dark-types' and 'Faster Pokemon'.

First analysis is struggle frend.

Not a QC but:

  • In the Overview, you should also add something about it being outclassed by Psychic Types (Mime and Kadabra)
  • For team options add some slow Voltturners such as Probopass and Pelipper
  • For Checks and Counters your format is a little off; it should be like: **Check**: Explanation
  • Over Other Options it should say [STRATEGY COMMENTS]
  • You could add Colbur Berry to Other Options so it would have a better matchup against Mightyena + Pawniard
  • Include Zweilous under Special Walls
  • Include more than just Spikes users in Team Options, include Stealth Rock users such as Carracosta, Golem, Probopass, Aurorus and Piloswine
  • For Team Options include Special Wallbreakers like Simipour etc.
  • Include Ghost Types in Checks and counters
  • Change the set name to something like Competitive Attacker or something

Overview:
This is good but when you talk about pokes outclassing it specifically say its niche (ik its obvious about the psychic types but still say about its ability - and also why would u use it over pawn)
You should also talk about its speed/bulk being bad meaning that even if it gets a boost, it still wont do much

Set:
Psyshock isnt worth mentioning as it doesnt do that much more to licki and is weaker vs a lot else (meow really needs the power)
Im not sure if calm mind is worth a mention as you dont have many set up opportunities nor the ability to sweep. Instead i think the last moveslot should be thunder wave, so its not total set up fodder to things like regice if the opp doesnt have a defog users (i dont think tbolt is worth using either as most targets get hit hardish by STAB + being set up fodder is terrible)

Moves: Dont mention bastiodon as that is pretty irrelevant

UT: Mention that meaowstic shouldnt switch into anything outside of defog

TO: When talking about hazards, be sure to say that meowstic should only be used on team which are reliant on hazards (also mention sticky web)
I dont think wallbreakers should have a bug mention as meowstic is meant to be a wallbreaker itself, as it is never sweeping vs a competent team

c&c: This is formatted incorrectly, it should be done like **Special walls**:

This is good Tentacruel<3 tag me when you are done so i can go through it again and stamp

I dont think thunderbolt should have a mention in the set as thunder wave is too important for the 50% of teams which dont have a defogger and have something to set up on meowstic

Also in UT you say 'This pokemon works best mid/late game when walls are weakend and faster pokemon are gone.' clarify this to make it mean more when they dont have a defog user (as you ofc dont control when they use defog)

There isnt much to this analysis so 1/3

Just some small changes grammar-wise (not a QC):

- Instead of calling Meowstic "her", replace with it.
- Replace one or two mentions of "bulk" with defensive stats
- Add Ghost Types to C&C
- Instead of saying "252 Spe / 252 SpA with timid nature gives it maximum power and speed", Just say Maximum Speed and Special Attack with a Timid Nature allow Meowstic-F to hit as hard as it can while outspeeding Pokemon such as Simipour, Dodrio, and Ninetales.
- Don't Bullet Checks and Counters
- Instead of saying "For the last move slot for Meowstic you could run Substitute to avoid Sucker Punches for example from Pawniard and Status moves", just say In the last move slot, you could run Substitute to dodge status as well as Sucker Punch.
- You don't have to say Competitive gives it a +2 Special Attack boost 6 times; one or two is fine
- Put Thunderbolt in OO seeing as Thunder Wave is more important and it doesn't struggle with Water Types for the most part.
- If you decide to keep Thunderbolt get rid of the part where it states "Hits Barabaracle and Carracosta harder than Hidden Power [Fighting]" and replace it with Psychic seeing as it does more damage than HP Fight with the STAB boost.

The name should be Competitive(ly terrible) sweeper with parenthesis pls Anty

Also I would consider sub in the last slot since meowstic has a free slot and not being revengekilled by pawniard/yena is really really nice and tbolt doesn't do that much

You can slash twave after I guess.

Also colbur is pretty bad on this since you become weeeeak as crap

2/3

[OVERVIEW]

Perhaps a little nitpicky but you mention that its niche is Competitive twice, so you could just put the parts about competition from Pawniard and from other Psychic-types next to each other so you don't have to repeat yourself. At the moment the sentences also flow somewhat weirdly but that's a GP thing.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[SET]

You don't have to write 'Life Orb' after [SET]

Moves
========

Thunder Wave isn't really for Dodrio or Ninetales, more for Pokemon such as Regice and Barbaracle that could otherwise set up on Meowstic and make it faint after that.
Mention which Pokemon you dodge status and Sucker Punch against. (Pawniard and Mightyena for Sucker Punch, stuff like Grumpig for status)

Set Details
========

'Preferred' is not a great word choice because Competitive is literally needed as it's Meowstic's only niche.

Team Options
========

Also say that entry hazard setters help wearing down Meowstic's checks.
Also mention a slowish Baton Pass when you talk about U-turn and Volt Switch.

Other Options
=============

Mention Calm Mind here.

Checks and Counters
===================

When you talk about residual damage say that it makes Meowstic easier to pick off with priority and faster Pokemon.

Nice, consider it 3/3 after you've done this.

explanations of changes, as requested
A combination of Meowstic-F's bad defensive stats and a Speed tier
The "a" in front of "Speed tier" is a little out of place. Whose Speed tier? Any Speed tier? Clearly the OP means Meowstic-F's Speed tier, so I took out the "a" so that "Speed tier" can attach to "Meowstic-F's".
and Speed tier, which is outsped by common Choice Scarf users and faster Pokemon means that
The words in blue form an aside; you can tell because there is a comma before "which". Asides must have commas on each end. Similar example: "Some books, such as Pride and Prejudice and The Kite Runner are too advanced for elementary schoolers" is incorrect; the aside must have commas on each end. In some cases, it's also fine to use no commas at all ("Some books such as Pride and Prejudice and the Kite Runner are too advanced for elementary schoolers"), but that's another story.
Speed tier, which is outsped by common Choice Scarf users and faster Pokemon
This is more of a parallelism thing. A Speed tier isn't outsped by Choice Scarf users. Meowstic-F is outsped by Choice Scarf users. You have to rephrase the sentence so that they match up.
Hidden Power Fighting helps Meowstic-F to hit Dark- and Steel-types, such as Pawniard and Probopass, for super effective damage such as Pawniard and Probopass.
This isn't a huge issue, but it makes more sense to list the examples immediately after the descriptor.
Thunder Wave can be used to slow down threats such as Barbaracle and Regice while it also and prevents Meowstic-F from being to be used as a setup fodder against these Pokemon.
The first change also isn't critical, but it makes more sense and is more concise. Not really sure how to explain that one, sorry.
Second change: the syntax is "prevents x from y"; that's just an idiomatic thing that most English speakers innately know.
Maximum Speed and Special Attack EVs with a Timid nature allows allow Meowstic-F to hit as hard as it can, (remove comma) while outspeeding Pokemon such as Simipour, Dodrio, and Ninetales.
EVs is plural, so it's "allow". As for the comma, I removed that because if you want to have a comma before "while", whatever is after "while" should be an independent clause. In this case it's not, so no comma. There's another distinction between ", while" and "while" but I don't really have time to explain that now!
Fighting-types such as Machoke and Poliwrath are good teammates for Meowstic-F, as they can handle Dark-types, switch in to any dark move, and KO them
This seems kind of redundant. I assume that if a Pokemon can handle Dark-types, it doesn't have a problem switching into them and/or KOing them. Furthermore, "KO them" is listed after "any dark move" when it would be better following from "Dark-types", as that's what "them" refers to, so I moved things around to fit that goal.
Meowstic-F needs free switches in switch-ins, which can be provided by slow U-turn, Volt Switch, and Baton Pass users such as Pelipper, Probopass, Pelipper, and Togetic.
"Switch-in" refers only to a Pokemon that switches into something; ex: Houndoom is a good switch-in for Sigilyph (idk if that's true I just made it up). The act of switching in is not called a "switch-in"; it's a "switch in". I realize that's confusing... also, the plural of "switch in" makes more sense being "switches in".
As for the other change, the order given was U-turn, Volt Switch, and Baton Pass; the examples should follow this order. Pelipper is a U-turn user, so it goes first. I suppose this isn't really an error, but it is undeniably an improvement.
Pawniard can trap Meowstic-F with Pursuit, set up a Swords Dance on the switch, or anticipate a Hidden Power Fighting and use Sucker Punch on Meowstic-F expecting a Hidden Power Fighting.
This originally ended with "or Sucker Punch Meowstic-F expecting a Hidden Power Fighting"; that is a bit ambiguous, as you could read that last part as saying Meowstic-F is the one expecting a Hidden Power Fighting, when it's actually Pawniard that is expecting it. I moved stuff around to make it a bit more clear.

Thunder Wave can be used to slow down threats such as Barbaracle and Regice while it also prevents Meowstic-F to be used as a setup fodder against these Pokemon. Substitute can also be used to dodge status from Pokemon such as Grumpig and Sucker Punch from Pawniard and Mightyena.

Set Details
========

Maximum Speed and Special Attack EVs with a Timid Nature allows Meowstic-F to hit as hard as it can, while outspeeding Pokemon such as Simipour, Dodrio, and Ninetales. Life Orb allows Meowstic-F to hit harder with all of its attacking moves as a cost of some of its health. The ability Competitive is needed, as it is Meowstic-F's only niche and will get a +2 Special Attack boost whenever one of its stats gets lowered.

Usage Tips
========

Meowstic-F works best switching into Defog, giving it a +2 Special Attack boost and hit very hard after. Try not to switch Meowstic into anything except Defog, as it is frail it won't take an attack well.

========

Fighting-types such as Machoke and Poliwrath are good teammates for Meowstic-F, as they can handle Dark-types, switch in to any dark move, and KO them with their super effective STAB move. Entry hazard setters such as Whirlipede, Dwebble, and Leavanny are also good partners as they can set up hazards and force the foe to Defog them away, while Meowstic-F can switch in to it and get a free +2 Special Attack boost. It also helps to weaken Meowstic-F's counters. Meowstic-F should only be used on entry hazard-centric/reliant teams, as its ability discourages the use of the move Defog, which is an annoyance for these teams. Because of it's lack of bulk, Meowstic-F needs free switch-ins, which can be provided by slow U-turn, Volt Switch, and Baton Pass users such as Probopass, Pelipper, and Togetic.

Other Options
=============

Toxic is a useful move to cripple special walls easier such as Lickilicky. Thunderbolt could be used to hit Water-types such as Pelipper, Barbaracle, and Carracosta for super effective damage. Calm Mind allows Meowstic-F to boost its damage output without relying on the foe to use Defog.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Dark-types**: Dark-types check Meowstic-F very well because they can switch in to its STAB move as they are immune to it and hit Meowstic-F for super effective damage. Pawniard can trap Meowstic-F with Pursuit, set up a Swords Dance on the switch, or Sucker Punch Meowstic-F expecting a Hidden Power Fighting.
