Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Sharpness is ridiculously huge for Absolite Z. Shadow Claw has ridiculous distribution and now with 1.5x power and ghost stab so many ohkos are opened up after a SD to so many mons. Iron Valiant, Ursaluna, Weavile, Roaring Moon, and Kingambit will all be meta relevant users of it now. im so excited for this stone, its the most unique of the new stones that is still completely balanced with no ban risk
edit: Shadow Claw is only a Slicing in Champions and i am dumb

i was sure Shadow Claw was already a Slicing move but i double checked and you are right. rip my dumb ass. at least whenever champions inevitably becomes the main mnm format we will get some cool new sets
I mean losing that fairy weakness is pretty major. Plus I cant think of anything that can take both stab psychic into ghost stab. Just sucks gallade has terrible hp/def. Hopefully we get the claws added to sharpness so we can use them.

Iron boulder has a sharpness boosted mighty cleave, if thats worth looking into. It unfortunately has literally zero ghost moves but maybe the fighting immunity is nice?
252+ Atk Absolite Z Sharpness Iron Boulder Mighty Cleave vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Sablenite Mandibuzz: 372-440 (87.9 - 104%) -- 25% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Absolite Z Sharpness Iron Boulder Mighty Cleave vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Sablenite Mandibuzz: 338-402 (79.9 - 95%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
I just used the same mandibuzz but mandi is weak to rock so I feel like a better calc would be a bulky neutral target
I did not compare this to barbaracite so that might be worth checking
Pech stats were taken directly from the “OU Pivot” sample set in the damage calculator.
Jolly:
252 Atk Absolite Z Sharpness Iron Boulder Mighty Cleave vs. 252 HP / 228+ Def Sablenite Pecharunt: 105-124 (27.6 - 32.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
(252 Atk Absolite Z Sharpness Iron Boulder Mighty Cleave vs. 252 HP / 228+ Def Sablenite Pecharunt: 105-124 (27.6 - 32.6%) -- 83.8% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock)
Adamant:
252+ Atk Absolite Z Sharpness Iron Boulder Mighty Cleave vs. 252 HP / 228+ Def Sablenite Pecharunt: 115-136 (30.2 - 35.7%) -- 38.3% chance to 3HKO
(252+ Atk Absolite Z Sharpness Iron Boulder Mighty Cleave vs. 252 HP / 228+ Def Sablenite Pecharunt: 115-136 (30.2 - 35.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock)
Before I continue, I have to mention that psycho cut, due to losing STAB, is actually slightly weaker than mighty cleave.
252+ Atk Absolite Z Sharpness Iron Boulder Psycho Cut vs. 252 HP / 228+ Def Sablenite Pecharunt: 114-136 (30 - 35.7%) -- 33.9% chance to 3HKO
33.9% < 38.3%. How Unfortunate.
SD Jolly
+2 252 Atk Absolite Z Sharpness Iron Boulder Mighty Cleave vs. 252 HP / 228+ Def Sablenite Pecharunt: 210-247 (55.2 - 65%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Return Fire:
0 SpA Sablenite Pecharunt Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Absolite Z Iron Boulder: 170-204 (52.9 - 63.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Below here are some less realistic calcs:
Return Fire in Sand (Tyranitarite viable? Probably not lmao but worth showing):
0 SpA Sablenite Pecharunt Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Absolite Z Iron Boulder in Sand: 116-138 (36.1 - 42.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
And the award to “most unrealistic calc” goes to:
+2 252+ Atk Absolite Z Sharpness Iron Boulder Mighty Cleave vs. 252 HP / 228+ Def Sablenite Pecharunt: 229-271 (60.2 - 71.3%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock, 1 layer of Spikes, and sandstorm damage
Maybe a benefit of absolite-z over barbaracite is -atespeed neutrality (or even resistance for pinsirite)?
The set I think probably does the most here is Mighty Cleave / Psycho Cut / Sacred Sword / Swords Dance, but if anyone thinks another set of moves is better for absolite-z then feel free to bring it up
I also only calced against pecharunt so take this with a grain of salt, I’m fairly certain several ground and fairy types are the bane of your existence with this guy.
imma be real w yall this latest batch of reveals is kinda ass ngl, golisopite gunna be good the rest will see limited to no use. here are some fun sets for golisopite and absolite z anyway
golisopite gives good bulk, 35 def 30 spd, and a steel tping. paired with tough claws it provides a superior blend of offense and defense for physical attackers compared to the other steel stones. itll be great on anything that doesnt need speed or has ddance
Great Tusk
Ability: Protosynthesis
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Headlong Rush
- Iron Head
really any set with any evs can vibe with golisopide, the power boost on headlong rush is much appreciated
Salamence/Dragonite/Baxcalibur/Roaring Moon/Kyurem @ Golisopite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Iron Head
all prior attempts to make drag/steel ddancers vibe just barely fell short of the power requirement so i am hopeful that tough claws will be enough to make this archetype viable
Zamazenta @ Golisopite
Ability: Dauntless Shield
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Howl
- Close Combat
- Iron Head
- Psychic Fangs
basically a middle ground between aggronite and rusted sword. its iron defense body press sets would work for it too
Iron Hands @ Golisopite
Ability: Quark Drive
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Drain Punch
- Iron Head
- Ice Punch
i wont let this set die lmao, aggronite sucked, crabomite was mid, and this one will be mid too
absolite z is a decent stone with an insane 76 point speed boost and sees some play on hoopa, iron valiant, and ursaluna, but sharpness wont enable any new users until shadow claw becomes a slicing move in champions. nonetheless here are some straws to grasp at
Sharp Boulder (Iron Boulder) @ Absolite Z
Ability: Quark Drive
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Mighty Cleave
- Sacred Sword
- X-Scissor/Night Slash
closest thing to a new user enabled because of sharpness
Kingambit @ Absolite Z
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Kowtow Cleave
- Shadow Claw
- Sucker Punch
kowtow is slicing apparently, still though a ghost/dark type with mediocre speed and aint sweeping anyone
Iron Leaves @ Absolite Z
Ability: Quark Drive
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Leaf Blade
- Psyblade
- Sacred Sword
run on electric terrain with raichunite x eleki for psyblade boost and maximum meme aura
Iron Crown @ Absolite Z
Ability: Quark Drive
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 20 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Tachyon Cutter
- Air Slash
- Volt Switch
i wouldnt add this one, however my dumb ass got swept by it one time so i am obligated to share it
Decidueye @ Absolite Z
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Leaf Blade
- Poltergeist
- U-turn
actually decent power output and pretty fun, still bad though. you could use leavanny too i guess if you are crazy like me
i hope the remaining ability reveals wont be stupid broken like lucarionite z or stupid awful like baxcalibrite. we deserve balanced new toys that are unique and meta relevant without being overbearing
Kingambit @ Absolite Z
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Night Slash
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Claw
The fairy weakness is unfortunate, but swords dance on a fighting move and you often have won right then
Kingambit @ Absolite Z
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Night Slash
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Claw
The fairy weakness is unfortunate, but swords dance on a fighting move and you often have won right then
Mew @ Dragalgite
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Psychic
- Toxic
- Substitute
Substitute may need to be changed, I rarely click
Mienshao @ Scizorite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Triple Axel
- Force Palm
- Hone Claws
interesting set, close combat may still be stronger, but the paralisys chance of forse palm is really nice
Ho-Oh @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Sacred Fire
- Recover
- Brave Bird
- Will-O-Wisp
Wisp ho-oh feels really good (when it hits) don't know ut this is standard
After playing around a bit with the new toys, I can safely say that both Golisopite and Absolite Z have solid niches. Let's just... not talk about Bax. Poor guy.
Starting with the standout, Golisopite. The stone is damn good. Steel secondary is always great to have, but the question was always how it would differentiate itself from Aggronite, Chimechite, and Rusted Sword. We have our answer, and it's the signature ability of mega pokemon everywhere, Tough Claws. (Side note: thank Arceus it wasn't regen like folks wanted. We don't need a second regen stone, especially not one that grants steel secondary.) Golisopite is now a viable alternative to rusted sword for many offensive sets on tusk/zama/etc. that trades explosiveness for a balance between bulk and power. It's versatility will also make it better for mons that have a detrimental secondary typing but who could not make effective use of a one-time atk raise. Overall, the stone is a welcome addition that may even introduce some new mons to the pool of viable options.
Absolite Z remains one of the oddest stones available rn, but I absolutely love it. Sharpness gives the stone a much needed boost in offensive output while also giving it a bunch of incidental synergies (tons more once champions mechanics become universal). It will singlehandedly enable a number of mons with limited prior viability while also being a niche option for some already powerful picks. Gambit can now spin block non-ate spinners and better check deo-s on offensive builds. Boulder now speed-ties Eleki. Decidueye is now a top tier offensive threat with Leaf Blade/Poltergeist coverage. (Nvm, bro doesn't even guarantee a 2hko on pech. Shout outs to the Brambleghast guy I always fight on ladder. Grass/Ghost coverage is kinda goated in the current meta.)
In summary, neither stone is game breaking. Golisopite will likely be a high tier or top tier stone. Absolite Z will remain niche but will be the best stone by far for a small handful of fringe metagame picks.
Oh yeah, Lucarionite Z stays banned. Fluffy with no downsides 100% breaks the meta even before you account for the +61 to speed.
dragoninite sux, but here are 2 decent sets w it. the speed is to outrun base 200 after a boost but isnt strictly necessary. cloyster is decent with it too but i prefer frosslassite on cloyster
Iron Moth @ Garchompite Z
Ability: Quark Drive
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Morning Sun
- Sludge Wave
- Fiery Dance
- U-turn
Levitate Iron Moth with one million spatk and speed go brrr.
Maushold-Four @ Hawluchanite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Tidy Up
- Population Bomb
- Thunder Wave
- U-turn
No Guard Population Bomb and Thunder Wave Maushold is here. You won't do as much damage as Technician but the added bulk is nice. EVs can be adjusted.
Pawmot @ Dragoninite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Revival Blessing
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Volt Switch / No 4th Move
I think Dragoninite is a good Stone because it's a massive stat stick. Multiscale has synergy with Rest. You have to keep hazards off to make it really good though. This set aims to click Revival Blessing as many times as possible via Sleep Talk. You can cut Volt Switch and just run 3 moves to make Sleep Talk call Revival Blessing 50% of the time. This is only for truly skilled players though, don't try this unless you're one of the best MnM players around.
Latias (F) @ Dragoninite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draining Kiss
- Stored Power
- Recover
- Calm Mind
Stat stick has synergy with bigger stats. Latish is a great Psychic types with Stored Power. You probably need around 3 or 4 to start OHKOing stuff though. Recover and Draining Kiss keeps your health topped up.
Suicune @ Dragoninite
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Calm Mind
- Scald
RETURN OF CROCUNE AFTER 10000 YEARS...
Cresselia (F) @ Dragoninite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Calm Mind
- Stored Power
Latish except slower, weaker and way tankier. Probably worse overall but you can get Calm Minds easier. Completely brick into darks.
Samurott-Hisui @ Absolite Z
Ability: Sharpness
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Ceaseless Edge
- Flip Turn
- Aqua Cutter
- Sacred Sword
Last time I checked, Ceaseless Edge is a real move the devs made.
dragoninite sux, but here are 2 decent sets w it. the speed is to outrun base 200 after a boost but isnt strictly necessary. cloyster is decent with it too but i prefer frosslassite on cloyster
I've personally been enjoying Giga Drain>Bug Buzz for that chance to restore Multiscale. Not sure what you'd hit with Bug Buzz that you can't with Psychic or Fiery/Fire Blast/Flamethrower. But yeah, big agree on Dragoninite being pretty niche outside of special setup sweepers like Frosmoth.
Chicken Cubed (Dodrio) @ Feraligite
Ability: Early Bird
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Quick Attack
- Brave Bird
- Body Slam
- Low Kick
Not perfect due to speed and difficulty with fairy types who resist flying, but it's got 110 base speed and attack, plus the 55 from feraligite and dragonize boost making it a fun glass cannon.
Notable features for mnm are: Automatic stat application for stones (pre-mega speed noted), types applied automatically, ability upon mega evolving shown, some extra search functions like Pivot, Recovery, Fully Evolved, tier specific searching Natdex (which just adds all pokemon cuz its cool), weak [type], resists [type], neutral [type] (wierd that /ds doesnt have this), and the ! negate command for all search functions. Also real speed on hover although its buggy.
