MLB 2013 Season Thread

Damn, that home run was a laser beam. I'm not sure I've seen anything with that low of a trajectory get out of a baseball park before.

Now I have to watch my bitter rivals, who are on their third WS appearance in the past ten years, play against a northeastern media darling also in their third WS appearance in the past ten years.

Well, "watch" because I haven't watched a single playoff game this season and don't plan to start (I work second shift so I've hardly caught more than the tail end of a couple games on the radio anyway) but ugh. Terrible outcome for every non-fan of either team.

whoa, I've certainly never seen a game end like that

But then again, I don't see how it was the wrong call. I don't like it, but he made the right call, given the rule on obstruction.

loling at the anger that this has generated, such an obvious call based on rules.

what always gets me is the extra throw to third in situations like this it is just always such an obviously awful thing to do and at some point people should be able to make decent decisions as to whether or not the risk associated with the throw is worth it?

It was definitely the right call by rulebook. It's not a judgment over whether it was intentional obstruction by Middlebrooks. Still, that was a good game, and even as a Cards fan, didn't want it to end that way.

Not a baseball fan and clueless about some of the rules, but I watched the very end of the game. I understand why the obstruction was called, but why wasn't it interference right before that when the runner collided with Middlebrooks while Middlebrooks was trying to catch the ball?

Runners have a right to the basepath. You see that (runners colliding with fielders) at second base all the time, trying to break up double plays, but not quite as often at third base. I'm usually not a fan of it, because you can tell that the runner is intentionally sliding into the 2nd baseman, even if he's within an arm's length of the bag. But on this play, Craig wasn't trying to interfere with Middlebrooks at all - he slid directly into the base, and Middlebrooks was just in the way.

When Boston got the Tuck Rule called for them against the Raiders it was following the rulebook and a great call.

When Boston gets the bad side of the rulebook, it's a bad call and utter bullshit.

xD

Joe Torre said in an interview that the rule will be changed for next year. What that means, I have no idea. It was the "right call" on a retarded play and I'm really more mad about the play than the call. moi is right, Salty should have known better considering Breslow made the exact same fucking mistake in the previous game.

But the Sox won last night so I'm fine with it right now I guess, it's a best out of 3 series and the Sox have home field advantage again.
