Mono Bug type team

This is not a Platinum team, I don't play Shoddy. So, please don't recommend a Bullet Punch Scizor or something.

Parasect @ Leftovers
Ability: Dry Skin
Nature: Impish
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Defence, 6 Attack

Spore
X-Scissor
Stun Spore
Counter

The basic idea here is to try to grab a surprise OHKO with Counter and spread some AIDS around with Spore and Stun Spore. Once he's weak he can also switch in later to heal thanks to a water attack that may be aimed at Shuckle.

Heracross @ Choice Band
Ability: Guts
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Attack, 152 Speed, 104 HP

Close Combat
Megahorn
Stone Edge
Pursuit

This is straight out of the analysis page. Switches in easily on Ground and Fighting attacks and hits stuff incredibly hard.

dpmfa049.png

Venomoth @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Tinted Lens
Nature: Modest
EVs: 252 Special Attack, 216 Speed, 40 HP

Bug Buzz
Psychic
Sludge Bomb
Hidden Power (Ground)

Special sweeper. Choice Scarf is a pretty good option for Venomoth I think because he doesn't care if something that resists Bug Buzz switches in. HP Ground is for revenge killing Fire types which my team is obviously really weak to. This guy can also absorb Toxic Spikes, which is a nice little bonus. Please don't recommend Yanmega over this guy because I'm not willing to replace him.

Forretress @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
Nature: Impish
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Defence, 6 Attack

Spikes
Stealth Rock
Rapid Spin
Explosion

Physical wall and spiker. He has Rapid Spin as well to hopefully help Vespiquen out a bit. Explosion to go out with a bang.

dpmfa452.png

Drapion @ Leftovers
Ability: Battle Armor
Nature: Impish
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Defence, 6 Attack

Crunch
Whirlwind
Earthquake
Acupressure / Taunt / ???

Not technically a Bug type, but he does evolve from one, so that's good enough. Whirlwind is fairly needed on this team because some of my Pokemon are fairly easy to set up on.

Shuckle @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
Nature: Impish
EVs: 252 HP, 160 Special Defence, 96 Defence

Encore
Toxic
Knock Off
Rest

Shuckle is one of the only bugs that isn't weak to fire, so I figured I had to use him. He's basically another toxic-staller. Hopefully I'll be able to knock off some useful items as well. I'm not too sure about this EV spread, I just grabbed it from the analysis. I want Shuckle to be able to take special hits mostly because I have several physically bulky Pokemon on this team.

I know that this team won't fare that well against OU teams, but I wanted to try to make a Bug team that is fairly competitive. Most of the people I play with mostly use UU/BL Pokemon anyway.

I have a Scizor, but it's a SD passer. So, it wouldn't fit this team very well. I might consider training another one to put in Vespiquen's place though.

Looks ike a decent team, it's just the massive Fire weak. Packing Shuckle as the only neutral pokemon to take a fire move, and Scarf Venomoth to beat Heatran is just not enough. Timid Scarf Heatran is able to outspeed Venomoth, and all shuckle can do is Knock Off.

Fire weak includes infernape weak as well. Replace Parasect with Yanmega so that you would have coverage against ape.

...Then again, even Yanmega doesn't take flamethrowers that well. Or for that matter, physical Ape's Flare Blitz.

As for why I chose replacing Parasect, because you decide to keep Venomoth for said reason. They both (Parasect and Yanmega) have sleeping moves, just you won't have paralyze support or a Water immunity if you replace Parasect.

That's just my two cents.

nvm, I see Psychic and Choice Scarf on Venomoth. You don't need Yanmega at all.

And moreover, Heatran's base speed is 77 compared with Venomoth's 90. You can put at least a few more evs to outpace scarftran by at least one point.

For the record, mono type teams can have one Pokemon on them that isn't the type you're centering around. So to eliminate that Fire weak, you could stick a Tran variant in there.

or even something like a dragon type like, say flygon or mence. Never use Chomp because it is über right now.

If you know Omega Donut, he could help you. His mono-bug team was on the leaderboard for months. But yeah, mono-bug can't survive without Scizor or Yanmega... Yanmega will help you mucho.

I'm going to drop the Vespiquen because I tried it out today, with another team, and it was complete dead weight. Bug/Flying really is terrible typing for a defensive Pokemon.

What flavour of Scizor would work best with this team?

I might consider a Drapion in this team as well since it at least evolves from a Bug type. Or Flygon because he really should have been Bug/Dragon type.

Like they said, Mono teams usually have a wildcard. I think a good adition to this team would be Swampert. Since it ttakes fire x0.25 and works really well to counter most of your problems other than Mixape, which i covered by Venomoth as someone has already stated =D

That all depends on your or the possible maker of a tournament's rules. I have seen a lot of 6 Monotype tournaments, and second of all he didn't mention he was gonna use this as Monotype vs. Monotype. Maybe he is just using this for fun, he didn't mention that. It's no standard rule you can use 1 pokemon of a different type.

This isn't for a special tournament. I just wanted to make a team of my favorite type. I think I may use a Flygon though because he's bug-like in appearance and happens to resist fire attacks.

I'm going to try the Life Orb set from the analysis page.

32 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def / 216 Spe
~ Earthquake
~ Dragon Claw
~ Fire Blast
~ Roost / U-Turn

I'm not quite sure of the logic behind the EVs though, so I may just go 252 / 252.

I think Flygon and Drapion are excellent choices since they are Bugs. I think Flygon should have gotten Tail Glow if you ask me, but definately add them. I would also strongly consider Yanmega, he is one of the best bugs out there.

I think I'm going to use a bulk Drapion in place of Vespiquen. This team really needs a phazer. I just got pretty messed up by a sub-seed Sceptile.

I'll update the top post.
