Monotype Core Laddering Challenge Season 2 Cycle 2
2 Cores, October 1 - October 11

Fire

Charizard-Y + Marowak-Alola
Tag : CCS2Fi2
Hall of Fame Rankings:

Platinum: 1550+
Gold: 1425+
Silver: 1300+
Bronze: 1200+
Charizard-Y - Charizard-Y may have fallen out of favor for its superior counterpart in Charizard-X, but that doesn't change the fact that it is a powerful special wallbreaker with Sun-boosted Fire Blast and access to Solar Beam and Focus Blast as coverage. It also has access to Defog and Tailwind to support its teammates as well as Hidden Power Electric to beat out flying types like Mantine.
Marowak-Alola - Alolan Marowak is a niche physical wallbreaker with access to Stealth Rocks and the ability to threaten most Psychic-types. With Sun support and its great attack stat paired with Thick Club, Marowak can be a dangerous threat to the opposing team if not handled properly. It also pairs very will with Charizard-Y as it can take electric type attacks from mons like Tapu Koko and check them back.

Fighting

Buzzwole + Lucario
Tag: CCS2Fg2
Hall of Fame Rankings:

Platinum: 1550+
Gold: 1425+
Silver: 1300+
Bronze: 1200+
Buzzwole - Buzzwole may seem like an inferior version of Heracross at first glance, but in practice it can potentially be even more dangerous than Heracross could ever be. It's physical bulk allows it to naturally, without any defense or health investment, check Azumarill after a Belly Drum as well as other physical attackers that threaten fighting like Tapu Bulu, Mega-Gallade, and Landorus-T. It's movepool is also useful because it can be used to check a variety of mons based on what you use.
Lucario - If you liked using Lucario for Steel, you might find yourself liking it here too. Lucario works essentially the same between both types in the fact that it can wallbreak and lategame sweep with its decent attack stat paired with Swords Dance and Life Orb. The only difference here is that Lucario is also essential to beating out Mega-Diancie with Bullet Punch and can check other Fairy-types after a Swords Dance.

If you win, please PM the team to Perishing Song or Namranan along with a brief description of the team and how you got the elo you got to. (Replays are much appreciated)

Remember to keep track of your Win/Loss ratio because the person with the best ratio out of 30 games can get a shoutout after the challenge has ended. To submit your Win/Loss ratoi just take a screenshot of your record and post it in your registration. The team with the best record will be added to its own Hall of Fame.

Rock

Tyranitar-Mega + Nihilego
Tag : CCS2Ro3
Hall of Fame Rankings:

Platinum: 1550+
Gold: 1425+
Silver: 1300+
Bronze: 1200+
Tyranitar-Mega - Normally this is extremely outclasssed as a Mega by not just Diance but also faces competition with Mega-Aerodactyl, so why use it at all? The reason why Mega Tyranitar can be used on Rock is purely for how much it helps in the Psychic matchup, being able to come in on Latios or Latias and setup and clean through the team.
Nihilego - While not uncommon, nihilego serves a great role on rock teams as a way of dealing with problematic Fairy-types and Ground-types and its ability to sweep and threaten opposing teams with its great movepool and useful speed tier.

Dark

Tyranitar + Crawdaunt
Tag: CCS2Da3
Hall of Fame Rankings:

Platinum: 1600+
Gold: 1450+
Silver: 1325+
Bronze: 1200+
Tyrantiar - A huge asset to dark teams, this pokemon can act as a defensive rocker, a dragon dance sweeper, or even an assault vest pursuit trapper. Tyranitar is one of the most versatile Pokemon on dark and can fit onto nearly every team, so play around with any options that you think help your team the most!
Note: You can use mega-tyranitar if you want, but the base form is still here as an option.
Crawdaunt -
Crawdaunt is a powerful wallbreaker with access to STAB Aadaptibility-boosted Aqua Jet and Liquidation, making it very hard for a lot of Pokemon to switch into. It's dark typing also allows it to get STAB with Knock Off as well, which allows it to have really strong neutral STAB coverage. Overall this Pokemon can be used really well on more offensively oriented teams so that it can poke holes in walls that allow its teammates to sweep.

Dragon

Mega Altaria + Hydreigon
Tag : CCS2Dr3
Hall of Fame Rankings:

Platinum: 1600+
Gold: 1450+
Silver: 1325+
Bronze: 1250+
Altaria-Mega - While Mega Altaria may look fluffy it can still be quite a dangerous threat against opposing teams with its good bulk and useful ability in Pixelate. Dragon dance in tandem with moves like roost and refresh/heal bell, one can make this Pokemon one hard to-KO sweeper.
Hydreigon - While it is usually more popular on dark, hydreigon is still a great stallbreaker and offensive Pokemon on dragon. It's wide movepool and decent attacking stats allow it to pull off many different sets that can catch the opponent off guard. Whether its a stallbreaker, Choiced Wallbreaker, or even speed control, this Pokemon can still be a welcome addition to any dragon team.

Water

Manaphy + Crawdaunt
Tag: CCS2Wa3
Hall of Fame Rankings:

Platinum: 1600+
Gold: 1450+
Silver: 1325+
Bronze: 1200+
Manaphy - Manaphy used to be popular back in the days of ORAS when rain water was commonly run on water teams allowing it to take advantage of its Hydration ability. These days because of the lack of rain teams due to the nature of the metagame, manaphy isn't used too much because other special attackers (Keldeo and Greninja) outperform it on most balance teams. Despite this, Manaphy can still be run on water teams as a decent setup sweeper or even a wallbreaker thanks to its access to Tail Glow. With a relatively decent movepool and decent bulk, this Pokemon should not be slept on when its on the field.
Crawdaunt - If you liked using Crawdaunt on dark, you may like it even more on Water. It does the same things it did on water, only now with rain support it can further boost its wallbreaking power with Liquidation and Aqua Jet. While it may be slightly outclassed by sharpedo on water, it still doesn't change the fact that it can more reliably take down walls like Celesteela and Mega-Sableye as well as having a decently hard-hitting priotity move in Aqua Jet, which can be useful against faster more frail threats.
