Resource Monotype Past-Generation Mega Thread

We hosted a couple throughout the week and I'd like to share a couple sets that I've tried out and my thoughts on them.

uxie.png

Uxie @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 104 Def / 152 Spe
Impish Nature
- Trick
- Stealth Rock
- U-turn
- Thunder Wave
Honestly Uxie has been a surprise for me as it is on par as a lead with Azelf and Bronzong on Psychic and a better lead than Metagross. Uxie is able to outspeed and cripple Taunt leads such as Aerodactyl and Froslass on top of being able to cripple defensive leads such as Torkoal and Bronzong with Trick. It's bulk is actually really good along with a respectable Speed stat making it a reliable hazard setter along with utility it has with Thunder Wave and U-turn since after it Tricks its Choice Scarf away it often forces a switch and allows Psychic to take fully advantage of this. After it gains Leftovers it becomes a fast defensive support Pokemon spreading status along with being a good pivot which I find useful for criplling set up sweepers such as Gyarados and Dragonite. I felt this set caught people of guard and still can be used effectively even if person knows the set so I'll keep everyone posted on how Uxie fares on Psychic.

On Normal I've been working on a Focus Sash Counter set for Clefable since normal struggles immensely against Scizor. I found it to be useful but I haven't found the right move combination for a Sash Counter Clefable, but it seems like something more Normal teams should consider especially with Scizor being to prominent in the current metagame. Hopefully I'll be able to share a full set next week and I've worked out the kinks in the set.

On Fire I've tried Banded Blaziken and honestly it isn't that bad especially since it has respectable coverage for DPP standards. I haven't really fully explored Blaziken but it seems like something that could put a huge dent into a Psychic team with proper support. I find it to be interesting and am planning on trying it on a Fighting team as soon as I get a chance.

I've also been trying Banded Medicham and honestly it's really good I find it to be useful against Water and Psychic surprisingly. I also noticed it doesn't really need priority in this generation and almost always needs support from Choice Scarf Jirachi to revenge kill faster threats on Psychic haven't really tried it on Fighting yet. I found Medicham to be very useful wallbreaker rather than a revenge killer with Choice Scarf and considering trying other options such as Trick on it to cripple some defensive answers, but I find its offensive coverage covers most of the metagame so it may not be that useful.

I've seen many other people innovate in the DPP tours and would love for others to share what sets they've been using as a way to exchange and develop ideas.

As usual tour will be held on Saturday at 2 and 8 pm est in Monotype Events room. However, we may have more tours throughout the week if there is continued interest.

After tours we will be discussing DPP VR and ways to improve it and be more open with the community. So after next tour we'll talk about what we can do to improve the VR hope to see everyone there.

We did a community update session in Monotype Events and here's some changes we're making based on feedback from community. We will be doing this after every VR update which we'll aim to do every 1-2 weeks depending on if changes are necessary and how many innovations actually come to fruition.
065.png
Alakazam A--->B
Alakazam is very frail and without Magic Guard it is unable to take a hit preform in a metagame with hazards and perma weather from likes of Tyranitar, Abomasnow, and Hippowdon making it a more niche pick in the metagame
450.png
Hippowdon S--->A
Hippowdon's sand stream ability isn't that useful since is nothing that can take advantage it. It typically is a sitting duck in an offensively based metagame.
232.png
Donphan B--->A
Donphan is by far the best spinner on Ground because of its good bulk and offenses for DPP standard. It's a solid choice on most ground teams.
213.png
Shuckle (both types) C--->Unranked
Shuckle doesn't do much in an offensively based metagame outside of set up Stealth Rock and Bug and Rock have at least two better Stealth Rockers that actually have an offensive presence.
435.png
Skuntank B-->C (Poison)
452.png
Drapion A--->B (Poison)
Both can help against Psychic and are ok in some matchups on paper, but in practice they do not preform that well although Drapion is a bit better than Skuntank because of its better bulk.
139.png
Omastar (Rock) B--->A
Hazards are very important in DPP and Omastar has Toxic Spikes, Spikes, and Stealth Rock along with a Water-typing to hit Ground types makes it a solid choice on rock teams.
479w.png
Rotom-W (Ghost Electric with Hydro Pump on Electric) A--->S
Rotom-W forms a solid offensive core with Zapdos along with providing much needed Water-type coverage to Electric teams along with Ground-type immunity.
466.png
Electivire S--->B
Electivire sucks. It may have good coverage but it always comes up short despite being one of the better physical attacker Electric has to offer it's just really bad.
264.png
Linoone D--->Unranked
Linoone can't set up Belly Drum in an offensively based metagame therefore its only niche is impossible.
115.png
Kangaskhan C--->D
Doesn't really do much but has Fire Punch and decently bulky which is handy for Scizor, but there are better checks to Scizor like Sash Clefable on Normal.
221.png
Piloswine Unranked--->D
It is a Stealth Rocker opening up a moveslot on Mamoswine which is useful in some cases.
049.png
Venomoth B--->C
Not that useful without Quiver Dance it's just there on Bug and is not as useful as other B Rank Pokemon.
If I missed something from the discussion feel free to PM on discord Vid#6107 and we'll try to include it in a future update rather than editing the current one.

After the tournament in Monotype Events the community worked on fixing the type VR to better reflect the metagame and here are the changes to the type VR. Next tournament we will work on updating the good leads section of DPP Resources.

Feel free to post any sample teams I am going to update them soon and cool sets you've been using.
We are also planning on hosting a tour where Salamence is allowed to see what would change in the metagame if it were allowed as a fun experiment.

Here's a very small VR update since we've learned some thing about low-tier types as the VR gradually takes shape major changes won't happen as often

BW stands for Black and White also known as Generation 5. Monotype is when all six of your Pokemon share the exact same type. EX: Politoed, Vaporeon, Cloyster, Keldeo, Swampert, Lanturn this would be acceptable for a Water Monotype. Dual typing are allowed for example Garchomp can be used on both Dragon and Ground teams. This metagame had its own ladder and is the original Monotype metagame.

Requesting addition of Grass to the Type VR for BW.

Not on the Type VR, which ranks the viability of each type within the metagame.
Grass would overall be in the D-Rank as many other types outshine it the only win it can easily do is vs water. Other types require a numerous amount of luck and hope for misplay vs grass.

Hiya! This is a Gen 4 Monotype Steel Team I have innovated from later generation teams!

Jirachi: Jirachi's Set is obviously trick room, fast hyper offensive water teams and fighting teams can be difficult to play around, especially without ferrothorn! Jirachi's Energy Ball+Thunderbolt applies a lot of pressure towards water, and psychic stab to fighting!
Heatran: Heatran specs is useful with flamethrower because it is there to fill as coverage, hp electric is for mantine. Considering Air Balloon is banned in this meta, it applies plenty of pressure to steel matchups along with empoleon and lucario. Specs Ancient Power also applies a lot of pressure to fire matchups also :D
Lucario: Lucario with +2 Life Orb is a Beast pairing with extreeme speed, especially considering toxapex is not here to tank a roll from lucario! Crunch helps out with rotom-ghost since all rotom forms are ghost/electric for some reason.
Bronzong: Bronzong with its ability allows it to basically set up on any fire mon and most likely getting a ko/toxic off before dying which supports lucario!
Empoleon: Empoleon with its fluent ability allows it to sweep/heavily chip steel/fire/rock/ground/flying/dragon matchups! Starf berry increases spA by 1 once hp is below 26% and with torrent, it most likely does an amazing job as sweeping!
Skarmony: Skarmory is our hazard lead 75% of the time, providing rocks/spikes which can help in numerous amounts of matchups and tremendously vs fire matchups, and supports the fellow sweeping mons listed above!

252+ SpA Choice Specs Heatran Hidden Power Electric vs. 252 HP / 160+ SpD Mantine: 304-360 (81.2 - 96.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Lucario Crunch vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Rotom-Wash: 289-341 (95 - 112.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 224 SpD / 32 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Cosmic Power
- Psyshock
- Charge Beam
- Wish

Heatran @ Air Balloon
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 56 Atk / 200 SpA / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
- Rock Slide
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Earth Power
- Flamethrower

Lucario @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Extreme Speed
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch

Empoleon @ Petaya Berry
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 3 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 SpD
- Agility
- Ice Beam

- Hidden Power [Ground]

Skarmory @ Custap Berry
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spe
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Whirlwind
- Brave Bird

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Power Whip
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Knock Off

Jirachi: Jirachi's Set is to setup on special attack based mons! It cripples fast hyper offensive water teams and fighting teams can be difficult to play around, especially without ferrothorn! Jirachi's Psyshock+Thunderbolt applies a lot of pressure towards water, and psychic stab to fighting! (Same as before)
Heatran: Heatran's set with rock slide chips down volcarona which is introduced inside of this generation so lucario can simple extreeme speed the rest of its health. Rock slide obviously kills after rocks but rapin spin does exist! Hidden power to helpout with ground mons such as Landorus or Garchomp and Earth Power+Flamethrower to pressure opposing steel mirrors and possibly rock matchups with earth power!
Lucario: Lucario is the extreeme speeed maniac of the team! In the past generation, rotom forms were all ghost/electric, which made me use crunch on my gen 4 steel team instead of ice punch considering bisharp was not introduced! One Swords Dance Up on a drop from draco/psycho, or a mon that lucario can tank can seal the job!
Empoleon: Empoleon with its fluent ability allows it to sweep/heavily chip steel/fire/rock/ground/flying/dragon matchups! Starf berry increases spA by 1 once hp is below 26% and with torrent, it most likely does an amazing job as sweeping! (Mentioned here)
Skarmony: Skarmory is our hazard lead 75% of the time, providing rocks/spikes which can help in numerous amounts of matchups and tremendously vs fire matchups, and supports the fellow sweeping mons listed above! Custap Allows Skarmory to utilize its ability sturdy to tank an attack and setup another hazard/or possibly KO.
Ferrothorn: Ferrothorn is an amazing physical tank! With its ability iron barbs and its move leech seed can cause your opponent to keep switching and switching causing them to lose HP overtime! Ferrothorn has knock off and power whip! Ferrothorn is amazing for water, electric, and ground matchups!

Thanks to GotCookies for the tips!
