[SET]
name: Physically Defensive
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Heavy Slam
move 3: Stealth Rock
move 4: Rock Slide
item: Eviolite
ability: Stamina
nature: Adamant
evs: 116 HP / 36 Atk / 196 Def / 156 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Mudbray distinguishes itself from fellow Stealth Rock setters like Onix, Ferroseed, and Pawniard by being neutral to Fighting-type moves. This, along with Mudbray's impressive physical bulk and ability in Stamina, allows it to function as a check to many of LC's physically offensive threats such as Galarian Farfetch'd, Onix, and Vullaby. Heavy Slam allows Mudbray to threaten Cutiefly and Spritzee, while Rock Slide scores super effective hits on Flying-types like Vullaby, Wingull, and Drifloon. The EV spread maximizes defensive capabilities, allowing Mudbray to survive Knock Off into Brave Bird from Vullaby and 2 Close Combats from Galarian Farfetch'd while putting enough EVs into Speed in order to outspeed slow Mareanie, Ferroseed, and Timburr.
Mudbray complements many of LC's various Flying-types such as Drifloon, Rufflet, and Vullaby by weakening Flying-resistant Pokemon such as Onix and Pawniard. Water- and Grass-types such as Corphish, Wingull, and Oddish pose a significant threat to Mudbray. Mudbray pairs well with the defensive core of Ferroseed and Spritzee, with Ferroseed providing a check to the Water- and Grass-types that threaten Mudbray, while Spritzee provides Wish healing to keep Mudbray healthy. Another suitable teammate for Mudbray is Munchlax, which is capable of absorbing special attacks that threaten Mudbray extremely well. In return, Mudbray is able to take on Fighting-types and other physical attackers that threaten out Munchlax. Furthermore, partners such as Chinchou and Mareanie synergize well with Mudbray by providing a crucial teammate that resists Water.
