Introduction
I'm pretty new to the competitive aspect of pokemon, especially in the team building aspect. After alot of help from friends of mine and some great suggestions from Legacy Raider and Flashstorm I finally finished my team. This team is supposed to have good synergy, take advantage of the great amount of immunities, and cover alot of threats while maintaining a good offense. Well here it is...
The Team
In-Depth
Greed (Jirachi) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 80 HP/252 Atk/176 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Iron Head
- Trick
- Fire Punch
- Body Slam
Jirachi is hands down my favorite lead. It ruins suicide leads like Azelf and Aerodactyl 60% of the time with Iron Head's Flinch rate. Trick is a life saver against things like Blissey, Vaporeon, Suicune, and Swampert who would usually hurt my team pretty badly. Fire Punch is for revenge killing Scizors. I recently started using Body Slam on Jirachi, it works great for spreading around paralysis and gives me the opportunity to still outspeed things after the Tricking my Scarf off.
Wrath (Heatran) (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spe, -SpD)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Dragon Pulse
- Explosion
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spe, -SpD)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Dragon Pulse
- Explosion
Heatran has become a staple on pretty much every team nowadays, and I'm no exception. ScarfTran is an excellent Revenge Killer/Late Sweeper and works excellently when paired up with Scizor's Fire Weakness. Explosion is great for getting a quick kill in before he goes down. Dragon Pulse is there for KOing Kingdras and Salamence.
Sloth (Scizor) (F) @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk/252 Spe/6 HP
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- Quick Attack
- Superpower
- U-turn
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk/252 Spe/6 HP
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- Quick Attack
- Superpower
- U-turn
Scizor is my main late game sweeper, after the threats to his sweep are dealt with (Rotom, Zapdos, Magnezone Bulky Waters) Scizor can have a field day. Superpower for predicted Heatrans and Bullet Punch for priority, and Quick Attack is useful for getting a quick KO on Infernape's whos defenses have been dropped. U-turn is great as a scouting move and has the potential to deal some very good damage due to technician. His only weakness is covered by Heatran and to a lesser extent Vaporeon, therfore adding even more synergy to my team.
Lust (Vaporeon) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def//6 SpDef
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Surf
- HP Electric
- Wish
- Protect
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def//6 SpDef
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Surf
- HP Electric
- Wish
- Protect
Vaporeon is another pokemon suggested for my team. Vaporeon helps take care of pretty much everything a bulky water should tke care of. HP Electric is for Gyarados and Surf is for a strong STAB. Protect is on the set to PP stall, scout for moves, prevent explosions, and to give Vaporeon a reliable recovery with wish. Wish also helps heal my Rotom who otherwise has no other healing methods. Vaporeon also adds another Immunity; Water, bringing the count of immunites up to eight (Water, Ground, Fighting, Fire, Electric, Normal, Psycic, and Poison).
Pride (Mamoswine) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 252 Atk/20 HP/236 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Superpower
- Stone Edge
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 252 Atk/20 HP/236 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Superpower
- Stone Edge
Mamoswine is also a new pokemon on my team. Mamoswine is my handy Electric immunity, which I decided to add after a bad encounter with a Jolteon. Mamoswine adds the much needed priority to my team, and lets me kill dragons with ease. I decided to put Superpower over Ice Fang because it in pretty much any situation I'd probably use Ice Shard anyways. Superpower is another chance to try and KO Blissey. Stone Edge for fliers looking for and easy switch on an Earthquake, and Earthquake is for a powerful STAB.
Envy (Rotom-h) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/168 Def/88 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Overheat
- Discharge
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Will-o-wisp
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/168 Def/88 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Overheat
- Discharge
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Will-o-wisp
Rotom works perfectly well in my team, taking advantage of the fact that alot of my team is either weak to ground or fighting. It gets alot of chances to switch in and Will-o-Wisp the incoming threats or Discharge for Paralysis. Its also my check for Scizor and Lucario. Its over all bulkiness is very usefull for taking repeated beatings. Hp Grass is for getting a KO on Swampert. It is an overall great status spreader and transition pokemon.
A Quick Overview of Weaknesses
- Jirachi is weak to Fire and Ground and is covered by Heatran and Rotom depending on the pokemon out at the time. Both Immunities on the team.
- Heatran is weak to Water, Ground, and Fighting. Rotom with his immunities to both Fighting and and Ground is awesome, and Vaporeon takes the Water hits. All three immunities on the team.
- Vaporeon is weak to Electric resisted by Rotom and Mamoswine is immune to Electric. The grass weakness is covered by Heatran. Electirc Immunity on the team.
- Scizor has one weakness which is Fire. My Fire Immune Heatran works well here, and Vaporeon can take the hit too. Fire Immunity on team.
- Mamoswine is weak to Fighting, Fire, Water, Grass and Steel. Rotom's Fighting Immunity covers that. Fire, Steel, and Grass is covered by Heatran, and Water is stopped by Vaporeon. Fighting, Fire, Water are all immunities.
- And of course, Rotom. Ghost and Dark are both covered by Heatran, that simple.
This team has every single immunity in the game barring Ghost, and provides me a ton of chances to switch without damage. Playing these immunities and resistances correctly gives my team excellent synergy and in turn a great chance at winning.
