My New OU Team

Introduction
I'm pretty new to the competitive aspect of pokemon, especially in the team building aspect. After alot of help from friends of mine and some great suggestions from Legacy Raider and Flashstorm I finally finished my team. This team is supposed to have good synergy, take advantage of the great amount of immunities, and cover alot of threats while maintaining a good offense. Well here it is...

The Team

In-Depth

Greed (Jirachi) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 80 HP/252 Atk/176 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Iron Head
- Trick
- Fire Punch
- Body Slam

Jirachi is hands down my favorite lead. It ruins suicide leads like Azelf and Aerodactyl 60% of the time with Iron Head's Flinch rate. Trick is a life saver against things like Blissey, Vaporeon, Suicune, and Swampert who would usually hurt my team pretty badly. Fire Punch is for revenge killing Scizors. I recently started using Body Slam on Jirachi, it works great for spreading around paralysis and gives me the opportunity to still outspeed things after the Tricking my Scarf off.

Wrath (Heatran) (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spe, -SpD)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Dragon Pulse
- Explosion

Heatran has become a staple on pretty much every team nowadays, and I'm no exception. ScarfTran is an excellent Revenge Killer/Late Sweeper and works excellently when paired up with Scizor's Fire Weakness. Explosion is great for getting a quick kill in before he goes down. Dragon Pulse is there for KOing Kingdras and Salamence.

Sloth (Scizor) (F) @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk/252 Spe/6 HP
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- Quick Attack
- Superpower
- U-turn

Scizor is my main late game sweeper, after the threats to his sweep are dealt with (Rotom, Zapdos, Magnezone Bulky Waters) Scizor can have a field day. Superpower for predicted Heatrans and Bullet Punch for priority, and Quick Attack is useful for getting a quick KO on Infernape's whos defenses have been dropped. U-turn is great as a scouting move and has the potential to deal some very good damage due to technician. His only weakness is covered by Heatran and to a lesser extent Vaporeon, therfore adding even more synergy to my team.

Lust (Vaporeon) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def//6 SpDef
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Surf
- HP Electric
- Wish
- Protect

Vaporeon is another pokemon suggested for my team. Vaporeon helps take care of pretty much everything a bulky water should tke care of. HP Electric is for Gyarados and Surf is for a strong STAB. Protect is on the set to PP stall, scout for moves, prevent explosions, and to give Vaporeon a reliable recovery with wish. Wish also helps heal my Rotom who otherwise has no other healing methods. Vaporeon also adds another Immunity; Water, bringing the count of immunites up to eight (Water, Ground, Fighting, Fire, Electric, Normal, Psycic, and Poison).

Pride (Mamoswine) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 252 Atk/20 HP/236 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Superpower
- Stone Edge

Mamoswine is also a new pokemon on my team. Mamoswine is my handy Electric immunity, which I decided to add after a bad encounter with a Jolteon. Mamoswine adds the much needed priority to my team, and lets me kill dragons with ease. I decided to put Superpower over Ice Fang because it in pretty much any situation I'd probably use Ice Shard anyways. Superpower is another chance to try and KO Blissey. Stone Edge for fliers looking for and easy switch on an Earthquake, and Earthquake is for a powerful STAB.

Envy (Rotom-h) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/168 Def/88 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Overheat
- Discharge
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Will-o-wisp

Rotom works perfectly well in my team, taking advantage of the fact that alot of my team is either weak to ground or fighting. It gets alot of chances to switch in and Will-o-Wisp the incoming threats or Discharge for Paralysis. Its also my check for Scizor and Lucario. Its over all bulkiness is very usefull for taking repeated beatings. Hp Grass is for getting a KO on Swampert. It is an overall great status spreader and transition pokemon.
A Quick Overview of Weaknesses
  • Jirachi is weak to Fire and Ground and is covered by Heatran and Rotom depending on the pokemon out at the time. Both Immunities on the team.
  • Heatran is weak to Water, Ground, and Fighting. Rotom with his immunities to both Fighting and and Ground is awesome, and Vaporeon takes the Water hits. All three immunities on the team.
  • Vaporeon is weak to Electric resisted by Rotom and Mamoswine is immune to Electric. The grass weakness is covered by Heatran. Electirc Immunity on the team.
  • Scizor has one weakness which is Fire. My Fire Immune Heatran works well here, and Vaporeon can take the hit too. Fire Immunity on team.
  • Mamoswine is weak to Fighting, Fire, Water, Grass and Steel. Rotom's Fighting Immunity covers that. Fire, Steel, and Grass is covered by Heatran, and Water is stopped by Vaporeon. Fighting, Fire, Water are all immunities.
  • And of course, Rotom. Ghost and Dark are both covered by Heatran, that simple.
This team has every single immunity in the game barring Ghost, and provides me a ton of chances to switch without damage. Playing these immunities and resistances correctly gives my team excellent synergy and in turn a great chance at winning.

Your team looks very nice and it is my pleasure to be rating it. I'm a sucker for Arkeis pictures anyways.

Anyways, a big threat to your team I noticed is Offensive Suicune. None of your pokemon can effectively handle it except for Jirachi and Rotom-H, with the latter most likely not being able to switch in often because of the low investment in Special Defense.

You might be thinking... wait, can't Jirachi just 2HKO before Suicune KO's me? The truth of the matter is... there's only a slight possibility to knock out Suicune without Jirachi fainting.

The following damage calculations show...

Jirachi's Thunderpunch (252 Atk, Positive Nature) vs. Suicune (4 HP, Neutral Nature)
39.47% - 46.49%

As you can see, there is a possibility that you might not even be able to 2HKO Suicune; Suicune can even 2HKO you without a boosted Surf, but luckily, it isn't likely. However, Suicune would die from Life Orb recoil anyways.

Nothing else in your team can effectively stop Suicune as it outspeeds everything else on your team. For this reason, I recommend changing Mamoswine's nature to Jolly. This will also significantly help keep Lucario, if it happens to be running Crunch, in check. By changing Mamoswine's EV spread to 252 Atk / 236 Spe / 20 HP, you can ensure that a Lucario's +2 Extremespeed will never OHKO and you can outspeed both Offensive Cune and Lucario (along with other neutral base 90's) as well. However, since you do have Lucario covered with Rotom and Gyarados, you are welcome to move some of those speed EVs to HP to increase overall bulk.

Moving on, I've noticed that your team has severe problems with NPApe, as it can effectively OHKO all of your pokemon without breaking a sweat. From my experience, even Gyarados can't take a boosted Grass Knot, especially if it has been weakened down by Stealth Rock. I highly recommend replacing Gyarados for Vaporeon, as Scizor is kept in check by Rotom and Heatran. For Vaporeon, I'd run HP Electric so you can counter Gyarados as well, since you don't want Jirachi to be switching in that often.

Otherwise, those seem to be the major problems or threats that I could find within your team. I hope my rating was of help, and if you have any more questions, you are always welcome to ask.

Gyara seems like it could be a problem and Rest talk DD mom water gyara is really strange and I don't think its really viable. Just a few thoughts.

Thanks for the suggestions, but what does Mamoswine exactly do to threaten Suicune? From my experience using it I've seen how physically bulky it is and Mamoswines Water weakness doesn't really help. Or can it KO it?

Earthquake will help weaken Suicune down; otherwise, it would just sweep through your team without having to worry about Life Orb.

Ice Punch > Thunder Punch on Jirachi. Jirachi is a Steel that can swap into an Outraging Salamance and pose a OHKO threat. Gyarados is already 100% countered by Vaporeon.

Rotom should have 88 Spe and 168 Def EVs, in order to outspeed max speed Adamant Tyranitar and Scizor, and use Will o Wisp / Overheat before they attack.

My biggest complain is Tyranitar. It's too slow for my tastes and has too many weakness. Mamoswine fills pretty much a similar role but has Ice shard for priority. Another pokemon that could add synergy to my team while also being quick would be great. If anybody can spot weak spots on my team that would be great. As always suggestions are greatly appreciated!
You can try CB Scizor in place of Tyranitar. Here's my set:
Adamant - CB
Bullet Punch
U-turn
Pursuit
Superpower
248 HP / 252 Att / 4 Speed / 4 SDef

It has speed with Bullet Punch and U-turn for synergy. Pursuit and Superpower are self-explanatory. You can change the EVs if you want; mine focuses on Attack and bulk. 252 HP means SR does an extra point of damage, so I went 248. 4 Speed to outrun Vaporeon, and the rest went into SDef.

Be warned that with this set, Zapdos will be harder to beat. Fortunately, Rotom's typing and bulk allows it to aim for a Discharge Paralysis, and Mamoswine is a good check, especially if it's paraylsised.

Scizor is so predictable though, and many people carry Magnezone, Rotom or Zapdos. I was thinking of trying out Salamence or some other pokemon that can help me in the late game. Lucario was an option suggested, I'm not really sure yet though.

I'm also thinking about dropping Dragon Pulse on the Heatran, and replace it with Explosion. Blissey is just so damn annoying and Explosion could get it out of my hair permanently, any thoughts?

Also wondering what everyone thinks about Darknessmalice's suggestion for Scizor. It has Very good resistances, helps with Blissey I think, and adds the much needed late game sweeper. It would also allow Jirachi to carry Fire Punch for Scizor and Magnezone if I can predict it coming in. Thoughts?

I'm also thinking about dropping Stealth Rocks on Jirachi, I hardl ever have the chance to use them and another punch for coverage or Body Slam Parahax seems to be more immediately useful, what should I try?

I was looking at Starmie and I'm pretty immpressed. I can revenge kill weakend pokemon, get some late game action, resists Fire, Water, and Fighting, and has great coverage with Surf, Thunder Bolt, and Ice Beam and also has the fourth slot opeon for another move like Grass Knot or Rapid Spin (I'm not really Stealth Rock weak though). Starmie's weaknesses are covered by Heatran (also thinking about giving it a bulkier set and dropping Salac Berry but thats still tentative) and Mamoswine. Starmie gives me the speed I was looking for to replace Tyranitar and also gives me a great type coverage. I'll wait till someone gives me an opinion though.

Sure, I can give ya a rate.

To me, the most notorious weakness this team has is anything that packs Earthquake. In particular: Mamoswine. Now I'm going to give you a complement that it can be handled. Scarf Jirachi can take it on with Iron Head, Vaporeon can take Ice-locked ones with Surf, and Rotom-H can easily switch into Earthquake.

With this in mind, this leaves you slightly weak to Fighting-types too. Again, Rotom can handle it as well, but don't overestimate things. Lucario still commonly carry Crunch and Heracross still has Pursuit and Night Slash for that predicament. Choice Band Heracross can also do a number against this team, especially with the slower Rotom and such. SD Luke with Crunch / ExtremeSpeed / Close Combat gives this team a new number. If they figure out the facade with Heatran, you're toast.

Finally, I want to point out that you have a little Tyranitar issue yourself. Scizor can revenge-kill it (so can Mamoswine really), but switching into it is another issue. Locked onto Stone Edge, it's doing damage to everyone except Jirachi. With Crunch, the same issue applies to Scizor and Jirachi. But Earthquake is rather difficult to switch into altogether since it's 2HKOing many Pokemon.

So the main problem is Ground and Fighting-type attacks in general. Now the question is who could we use? Gliscor sounds pretty good. With enough Speed to outpace Jolly Lucario, it can handle everything pretty well with those concerns. Tyranitar with Ice Beam or Aqua Tail are a little harder to handle, but Scizor can handle revenge-killing it. As for Aqua Tail, it's only seen on the Choice Band set and Vaporeon could step into that.

With prediction, this team is fairly solid. The only thing that could prove troublesome is bulkier teams. Toxic Spikes hinders Vaporeon and Mamoswine while Spikes is hitting everyone but Rotom. Overall you -COULD- use a Stallbreaker, but this is moreso preference.

I think the only thing that I'd really consider is adding Gliscor somewhere, but otherwise it's a fairly solid team overall. Good luck with it.

EDIT: I noticed you mentioned something about Choice Band Scizor. It requires a little prediction (and some Stealth Rock damage), but it is very useful if you play everything right. If the Swords Dancer is too hard to pull off and you need quick damage with useful utility attacks, use Choice Band. As for Starmie, it's possible to slip this in if you need a second Special Attacker. I'd use Recover for slot four though to heal off unnecessary damage. With Life Orb, Starmie makes a helluva late-game sweeper. But it's not very bulky, so don't overestimate that aspect.

Gliscor needs to overspecialise to take down Lucario, worsening its potential against other physical attackers. As a general rule of thumb, Jolly Lucario have Ice Punch, whilst Adamant Lucario have Stone Edge or Crunch. This means a Timid Rotom is capable of outspeeding Lucario with Crunch. Make the Rotom Timid, and change the EVs to 252 HP / 212 Speed / 44 Def; it now outruns Adamant Lucario and can Overheat before it gets hit by Crunch. This will remove the need for Fire Punch on Jirachi.

Admittely though, I have never used SR on a Scarf Jirachi. If you want another SR set upper, replace Dragon Pulse with SR on Heatran, and Salac Berry with Leftovers, as well as changing the EVs to a more defensive set, enabling Heatran to function more effectively as a special wall. Try 252 HP / 88 SDef / 168 SpA. It allows Heatran to swap into a Gengar's Shadow Ball, Focus Blast and SR and survive, whilst OHKOing back with Fire Blast. This assumes no item boost, but most Gengar are Scarfed. You only have a 20.51% chance of being OHKOed by a LO Focus Blast with SR in play.

The threats that Colonel M pointed out generally hold a CB; the best way to deal with these pokemon is prediction - swapping to either Rotom or Jirachi. Vaporeon can always pass Wish to them should they need healing. Your Scizor (the one with Shed Shell) could have Roost in place of X-Scissor, so it has an easier time countering Tyranitar.

I wouldn't have Salamance, as Scizor deals with these threats more easier than Salamance. Scizor can survive a CB Ttar Stone Edge, should the need arise for this, whilst Salamance can't . Salamance is also SR weak and not immune to SS. Blissey is already handled well by Mamoswine and Scizor.

hitmonlee/adlucario/scarfheracross will give u problems no doubt.

i would say gyra too but ur vaporeon and rotom are pwnage.

overall its good. as you use them ull naturaly make adjustments.

So, SDLucario with Crunch is a really large problem, considering that you're only check is Heatran, assuming you activate the Salac Berry. Very situational, lets remedy this.

Firstly. give Jirachi Fire Punch. You can always rely on Iron Head for Flinching the Dragons, and Fire Punch really gives you a nice check against Lucario. Secondly, change Heatran to a Scarf Variant for speed. Dragons locked into Outrage, no problem, revenge kill with Dragon Pulse. Drop Substitute for Explosion to take care of Blissey as well.

I'd definitely consider switching Scizor and Mamoswine's items. Mamoswine wants Life Orb, as it is crucial that you aren't locked into a CB Earthquake with the fast paced current metagame. Each turn counts, and I'm sure the recoil damage is negligible in return for more flexibility. Run Ice Fang over Superpower on Mamoswine since you now have ScarfTran and Jirachi as checks for Bronzong.

Scizor, on the other hand, doesn't mind a Choice Band, and would benefit you greatly, since you rely a lot on revenge killing and overall position on your opponent. Uturn, Superpower, Bullet Punch, and Quick Attack/X-Scissor is the set of choice.

Offensive Suicune is a nuance to this team, but I'm sure the combination of Scizor and Mamoswine can wear it out, as most run max speed and special attack. Just make sure to tweak your EVs (Scizor wants the EV's suggested in the analysis for the Bander, and max speed on Mamoswine to beat Adamant Lucario, max-speed non-scarf Heatran, and offensive Suicunes).

Overall nice team, good luck.

Haha, I have to double two comments from Twist of Fate I was going to make... I'd go with fire punch over ice punch on jirachi definitely.

CM 3 attacks Suicune gives you trouble. Even if you go jolly on mamoswine the occasional timid one can still go through your team. I'm not sure what exactly to do about this seeing as your team works well together and replacing any member would skew it... a possibility could be throwing yawn on vaporeon, but that's just a tentative suggestion, probably not exactly where you wanna go with it (I personally like yawn, but you might want to keep protect rather than wish/yawn).

Also, outside of vaporeon... your team kinda has a problem with infernape. CC/Fire blast by itself hits scizor, mamoswine, rotom (switch ins get beat at least), and jirachi (if you've tricked your scarf off... not that you can do anything to infernape anyway). I'm sure when playing you've handled infernapes fine, however if Infernape actually DOES become a problem you could always put quick attack somewhere on scizor's move set. I doubt this will become a problem, however you could also handle this by making heatran scarfed. Although it loses the element of surprise, it can take on threats better, and without a good scarfer your team is vulnerable to any fast sweeper.

Hope this helped~~

@Twist of Fate- Thanks for the suggestions, I like CBscizor and I think that I'll give it a shot, as well as runnin LO ond Mamo. As for Superpower on Mamo, its mostly there to help stop Blissey which I've always like to have a back up for. Mamoswine can switch into a Thunderwave and either force it out or KO it with Superpower, and if I wanted to use an Ice move I could always use Ice shard, no?

@Druggedfox- Would quick attack KO Infernape? If so CBScizor would be awesome to have on my team. As for Suicune, well that is a toughie I'll just have to roll with the punches for now. I've always wanted something to help keep bulky waters at bay but never really found something that works well on my team. If you have any suggestions that would be great.

I like the versatility and power of Ice Fang in some situations over Superpower. With Earthquake, you defeat Blissey anyway, so Superpower isn't really necessary. I like the possible flinching chance against random stuff like Cresselia, but its really personal preference.

I've made some big changes to my team and I'd like t osee what you all think about them.

Jirachi- Jirachi's moveset has changed slightly, I'm now running Body Slam (could be Thunder Wave) instead of Stealth Rocks, because honestly I never use them. Stealth Rocks on Jirachi make it less versatile. Body Slam/Thunder Wave give me the chance to paralyze things and after the Tricking off my Scarf, I can Paraflich my opponents.

Heatran- Heatran has changed from a SubTran to a ScarfTran. I really like ScarfTran's ability to revenge kill things and even Explode on some of the things I suffer with more (bulky waters)

Scizor- Scizor has recieved a Choice Band, and it works really nicely. Choice Band gives me an extra move slot for Quick Attack (used to KO Infernapes). I am also using U-Turn to add to the Synergy of the team, and to scout for their Scizor counter.

Mamoswine- I've changed his item from Choice Band to Life Orb. LO gives Mamoswine alot more versatility and prevents him from getting locked into Earthquake.

Those are the changes to my team, what do you guys think? I was also thinking of Gliscor as my Electric resist instead of maybe Mamoswine. Gliscor keeps the electric resist and adds another ground resist, makes my team more physically bulky, and can do some good damage with Swords Dance.
