Project National Dex OU: Magic Matchmaking (Cycle 13: Modest Z Gholdengo)

I had to delay the update because the vote was tied but congrats on djkslaf winning this cycle! (again)

ILoveGarchom sure I was looking for a mon to use for this cycle anyway.
So without further ado...

CYCLE 12: Offensive Z Garchomp
:sv/garchomp:
Garchomp @ Rockium Z/Dragonium Z
Ability: Rough Skin
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge/Outrage
- Stealth Rock

Garchomp has been able to be an OU staple thanks to a diverse movepool, and great stats (most notably a 102 speed stat that allows it to creep a lot of relevant Pokemon). With a 130 base attack stat and the immediate power of a Z-Crystal, Garchomp is able to threaten a huge chunk of the metagame and force a lot of switches, making it an amazing user for entry hazards and setup moves like Stealth Rock or Swords Dance, and its typing allowing it to switch into threats like Mega Charizard Y and force them out, either setting hazards, setting up, or just throwing off a strong Z-Move. How can you amplify this threat's potential?

Rotom-Heat @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Levitate
IVs: 0 Atk
EVs: 252 HP / 200 SpA / 56 SpD
Modest Nature
- Pain Split
- Volt Switch
- Overheat
- Will-O-Wisp
switches into everything except fighting stab from val and ohkos with overheat
also deals with corv

:sv/mawile-mega:
Mawile @ Mawilite
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 52 HP / 252 Atk / 204 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Ice Punch
- Thunder Punch
- Fire Fang / Knock Off / Brick Break

These two provide fantastic offensive synergy, overwhelming similar counters, like Dondozo and Corviknight. Garchomp helps threaten the Fire types that scare Mawile, while Mawile can tank Fairy and Ice hits for Garchomp.

:sv/moltres:
Moltres @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 248 SpD / 12 Spe
Calm Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- U-turn
- Roost
- Flamethrower
A good pivot to bring chomp in + can neutralize non fire phys threats. Chomp can deal with alot of fire type attackers (eq, for zardy stone edge). Types complement eachother quite nicely as well, with chomp covering electric and rock for molt and molt covering fairy.

holy FUCK I'm ugly how did I put this off for 7 fucking days
djkslaf wins again! (somehow) pm me the color you want!

now since I'm a genuine bum, let's do an easy one

CYCLE 13: Modest Z Gholdengo
Gholdengo @ Steelium Z/ Ghostium Z/ Fightimium Z
Ability: Good as Gold
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Recover
- Nasty Plot
- Make It Rain/Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball

look at how far we've come bro

Gholdengo is arguably the greatest Z-move abuser in the tier, only contested by Volcarona, and only got better after the Roaring Moon ban. It's the only Pokemon in history that can fully block Defog, completely changing the hazard game ever since its introduction, and uses the hazards its teammates set (which stay for just about the whole game unless Gholdengo gets pursuit trapped or gets hit by a super-effective move on switch-in) to break drastically easier. Defogging on the Gholdengo switch basically means you get set up on and you get your "check" nuked by a z-move, losing one on your key walls for the game. How will you support this fiend of the metagame, helping it win the hazard war and beating its checks/counters in the process?

:sv/samurott-hisui:
Samurott-Hisui @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sharpness
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sacred Sword
- Ceaseless Edge
- Knock Off / Sucker Punch
- Aqua Cutter

With a great defensive type combination, covering fire/ghost/dark for gholdengo, it also sets hazards (which are made irremovable by good as gold. It also manages to beat out volcarona without the speed boost from qd and kingambit (resists dark/steel stabs, sacred sword)
