S2W2: Deoxys - Results
The results are in and the winner of this week of NBT is none other than the Be13costa with his Trick Room Setter Set!
Trick Room Setter
Deoxys-Defense @ Mental Herb
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 HP / 108 Def / 52 SpD / 96 Spe
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Trick Room
- Teleport
- Knock Off
Unfortunately for deod (but fortunately for the rest of us!) deoderant has just been banned in NU (y'all better not smell... ). I personally had a ton of fun using a similar set though! Trick Room won't be the same without it! This set will be added to the hall of fame and we will be back soon with the next best thing!
See I told you it would be soon. This week on NBT we have a return of a former titan of NU, Slowbro-Galar! There were times where we even discussed banning this mon before his wetter brother overshadowed him and took his place. Now that slowbro has risen to RU it's time to let Galarbro shine once more! Glowbro has a deep movepool, solid defenses, and the capability to go specially or physically offensive! (or both!) Get your spices ready and cook up the next best thing for this monster!
Banned Sets:
1. Nast Plot or Calm Mind | 2 Attacks | Slack Off
2. Toxic or Thunder Wave | 2 Attacks | Slack Off
Submissions are open now and close Tuesday, July 30th at around 8pm EST (GMT -6).
Offensive Trick Room
Slowbro-Galar @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
Quiet Nature
- Trick Room
- Sludge Wave
- Psyshock
- Fire Blast
With its decent base 100 SpA, very low speed and good STAB combination, Slowbro-G can be used as a Trick Room cleaner. Fire Blast is the coverage move of choice to hit Steels.
Toxic IronPress
Slowbro-Galar @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Water / Fairy
EVs: 248 HP / 248 Def / 12 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Bold Nature
- Body Press
- Iron Defense
- Toxic
- Slack Off
Iron Defense + Body Press flips many losing matchups like those versus Alolan Muk and Incineroar, virtually luring them in. And, those who can take a Body Press dislike having to deal with Toxic chip.
Hulk Hogan (Slowbro-Galar) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Quick Draw
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Belly Drum
- Side Shell Arm
- Drain Punch
Click image for full effect! HEY BROTHER! Have you ever wanted to SLAM someone from the top ropes? Let me tell you something. Watcha gonna do when the hulkster runs wild on YOU!? This set drums up a maximum attack raise, flips speed tiers with trick room, and proceeds to kick butt and take names. Drain punch replenishes our health to help us stay out of range of priority brother and tera fight gives us a much needed dark resist for the hulkster. Originally we had eq on the set over drain punch but bronzong / tera Steel flygon and friends being doubly immune isn't cool brother. Quick draw because you KNOW Hulk Hogan has the fastest hands in the west (and it can also net a surprise ko / ko after TR ends).
Team | Replay: 12 I had poison jab in some of these replays because I didn't realize side shell was 10 bp higher but ya know, it does the same thing... brother.
Welcome to the Cursed Casino, this is your host the NBT Madman himself and his partner, quick draw curse Glowbro
Slowbro-Galar @ Leftovers
Ability: Quick Draw
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Curse
- Drain Punch
- Shell Side Arm
- Slack Off
Slowbros cousin was gifted with some unique tools over the original, a higher base attack stat, signature move in shell side arm, and an ability in quick draw, so let's make use of all 3. Curse lets us boost our attack and physical bulk and we don't care about the speed drops, 30% of the time, we go first every time, with slack off to keep us nice and healthy. The attacks of choice being drain punch as another form of recovery along with hitting what's in your face and of course shell side arm, a stab move which changes whether it attacks off of glowbros attack or special attack depending on which would deal more damage, for this we want a nature that lowers speed instead of special attack, we didn't care about speed anyway and it lets an unboosted shell side arm do more to mons with high physical defense like avalugg and cloyster as well as gives us a still usable attack if burned. For EVs since the plan is to set up with curse, going specially defensive helps with that.
S2W3: Slowbro-Galar - Voting Submissions are now closed and voting is now open for Season 2 Week 3 of NBT! Which Slowbro-Galar set is the hot new thing on the block? You decide! I'm still not sure how we didn't get an AV Glowbro submission... there is always an AV submission and this week it would make the most sense... The sets this time around are:
Offensive Trick Room by TailGlowVM Toxic Iron Press by Power Of Memes Belly Room by LessThanThreeMan Curse Casino by Diamonds_Realm
This time vote for your favorite (singular) set! Submissions close Thursday, August 1st at around 10pm EST (GMT -6.) May the best set win!
And btw I submitted an AV set and deleted the post for the single reason it felt really as bait, the more i thought about the more i was thinking why just i don't use A-Muk.
It's been a while since I've been here. Shengineer decided to bring me back because, uh, idk. Anyways, this week's NBT features the SMNU king, Incineroar. Whether you have played SM NU or VGC you definitely have scary flashbacks of this Pokemon. Incineroar debuted in SV NU as a mid Pokemon, but only recently it started to really rise the ranks, especially with the drops of Cresselia and Deoxys. VGC players claim this Pokemon has a ton of versatility, so let's see how creative you all can get.
Tired of the boring norm for incineroar sets nowadays, well how about a throwback to ye olden times with resttalk power trip
Incineroar @ Apicot Berry
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 248 HP / 216 SpD / 44 Spe
Careful Nature
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Bulk Up
- Power Trip
Rest talk lets incin have the longevity needed to set up multiple bulk ups and power trip is the only move we need when we can skyrocket its base power to 140 in just 3 bulk ups. Apicot berry gives a SpDef boost when under 25% hp, meaning can rest to full after and making incin even bulkier on the special end additionally giving 20 more BP to power trip. EVs we take enough speed so vaporeon can't haze away boosts before we hit it and the rest into HP and SpDef for maximum bulk. Tera fairy for the all around defensive typing and dragon tail immunity. Lasty I paired this set on a grassy terrain team for the additional recovery and weakening opposing earthquakes.
Nasty Plot Incineroar
Incineroar @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Ground / Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Scorching Sands
While 80 base Special Attack can be underwhelming, this set can lure in physical walls that could try to switch into the physical set you might expect to see on a team with an offensive Incineroar, and it doesn't have to take Flare Blitz recoil like a physical set would. Fire Blast and Dark Pulse are obvious; Scorching Sands is chosen to fish for burns and hit Diancie and Infernape.
This is a slightly different take on the Flame Charge + WP Incineroar that I've used to grind out some ELO in low ladder to great success in the past. I realized that once opponents caught on that the 'usual' way of dealing with Incineroar wouldn't work (clicking EQ, activating weakness policy), then Haze, phazing, and status like Toxic/Twave were the main obstacles standing in the way of this set. Depending on the Tera Type, one could cover a status of their choice but if the opponent had an answer the set became very boom or bust. By dropping the coverage move of Earthquake in exchange for Taunt, Incin can bypass this counterplay and absolutely demolish unprepared teams.
Note that this set requires a bit more setup than the version with Earthquake, since you will be more easily walled by dark resists like Diancie. Structure your team in such a way that these defensive obstacles are lured in and chipped down in order to pull off an Incineroar endgame. Additionally, one could opt for a bulkier EV spread if there are any particular rolls you need to avoid.
You all submitted your sets, but as we all know, only one can be known as the next best thing (otherwise it would be known as Next Best Things, which doesn't even flow naturally). Before we vote, we have to see what we are voting for, without further ado, let's unveil the sets:
