NCAA March Madness 2010

My intense analysis that led to a desire for Duke to win came through, if only people could see the brilliant prognostication. Oh man!

so duke is going to win.. based on the way msu and butler played i don't think either had/has a chance.. so thanks butler for saving me the embarrassment of state losing to duke in the finals!

rooting for butler anyway though i hope they win

lol, who isn't rooting for Butler? Agreeing, though, that Butler has no chance if Duke shoots like they did yesterday. Duke has shown that it can play consistent defense all throughout the tournament and their pretty unstoppable if their shots are falling.

If there's one knock on Duke last night it's that literally 90 % of their points were a result of the big 3...dropping 3's lol. Butler need to match their trademark tenacious defense with some actual offense against Duke's solid D if they wanna win...go Bulldogs!

In case you can't tell by my nick, I'm fucking happy Duke won. If Scheyer, Singler, and Smith play like they did Saturday night, this isn't going to be close. Duke is unbeattable when they play like that. Also, if Howard doesn't play, Zoubek, Thomas, and the Plumlee's are going to destroy the offensive glass. Even more reason for Duke to win.

GO BLUE DEVILS!!!

I'm so excited for today's game!!!! I actually like this Duke team better then all the other number one seeds because they play very fundamentally solid basketball and have an electrifying backcourt but I'm rooting for a Hoosiers repeat!

After this result, I'm wondering how long can one make a post containing nothing but curse words without getting in trouble.

It was a good game. I enjoyed it. It didnt matter too much who won, but im glad it was a good game. (I had Duke in the finals, but losing to Kansas). I ended my bracket with 860 points (I got Duke and West Virginia into the final four and got top 10% of all ESPN brackets, despite losing Kansas (my champion).

Although a part of me wanted Haywards shot to go down so it wouldve been the greatest NCAA Championship finish possibly ever, since it didnt DUKKKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEEEEEEE LETSSSSSSSSSSS GOOOOOOOOOOOO 2010 CHAMPS

Yeah that was almost the best ending to a championship ever! As much as I was rooting for the underdog, props to Duke for winning the title. Especially with critics slamming them as "alarmingly unathletic", a racial stigma due to their predominantly white roster featuring Scheyer, Singler and Zoubek. Props to them, and best of luck to the seniors and early school leavers for their future professional careers.

I was on the edge of my seat by the end of it, awesome game I agree it had the potential to have one of (if not the) best endings to an ncaa final ever. The shot was extremely close but unfortunately close doesn't get you any points, bad luck Butler.

If not for that mess of an inbound earlier Butler would have kept a timeout and things may have been different but that's neither here nor there.

Yeah that was almost the best ending to a championship ever!

Why does the shot need to fall for it to be the best ending ever? Why does the underdog have to win for it to be the best ending ever? The miss is just as significant, the favorite winning instead of the underdog is just as significant. You are just applying your own arbitrary logic to the whole ordeal.

CK, it isn't a matter of which team shot the ball that could have made it the best game ever, it was the fact that a shot from behind halfway could have won a team the game. Duke could have been losing by two and Singler or something could have taken the exact same shot and I would have said the same thing. Just because I was rooting for Butler in this game does not mean that you have the right to put words in my mouth and start conflicts for the sake of it. Unless Tennessee is involved, in which case I'd concede that you'd have a point, I just like close tight basketball matches and any game winner from half court would be good enough to go down in the greatest finishes imo, regardless of team.

EDIT: Other posters clearly agree with my opinion yet you didn't quote them?

if only hayward made that shot...woulda been history in the making.
oh well i expect the bulldogs to be good next year too, they arent losing any starters iirc

No one else stated it in the incredibly clumsy and horribly arbitrary way you did (which is also why it was not starting a conflict for the sake of anything but correcting your mistake). I am not putting any words in your mouth. You specifically said "almost the best ending ever", as if making it or nearly missing it are not, for drama's sake, both as compelling. The common logic is that it only matters when an underdog wins or the shot is made, but that is nonsense. When the favorite wins in the end after such a close charge or a shot comes that ridiculously close to being good, then it is equally compelling.

I agreed with what that other person said, that Memphis-Kansas was a better game. Just a game winner, made or missed, does not make up for a whole game (except in arbitrary logic land).

I don't see how in the fuck "Yeah that was almost the best ending to a championship ever!" is terribly worded or anything. Read Solus' and Lakers' posts; almost the exact same phrasing and you didn't bother to call them out. I don't see why you have to have such a problem so as to call someone out in a childish manner when I didn't even say anything like it being the best final ever (The Houston final from like 84 or whenever Hakeem played for them probably claims that title), or the best final I've watched personally (Memphis/Kansas). I merely said it could have been the best ending ever, as did users before me in almost exactly the same words. I understand the implication that it was because Butler were the underdog and stuff, but never did I state that the inverse wouldn't be true. And how is the miss as exciting as a make? I almost made a full court shot in a basketball final to win the game but I missed, and most people have forgotten about it because "almost" doesn't equal exciting or memorable. So unless you actually have a real season to start an argument over something that matters (e.g the relaxed style of refereeing that let go numerous blatant fouls both ways, especially from Zoubek) then my stance is still the same; you are starting shit for no apparent reason.

EDIT: In my second post I used the words "best game" but I didn't proofread my post, hopefully you realize it was inconsistent with my first post and don't take it word for word.

Well I ignore most of Lakers' posts because talking to him is like banging your head on a wall, and Solus was hedging more, so I chose to pick on the stronger wording from you. To bring aspergers into this is an atrocious ad hominem - I like arguing a lot, not picking on every sentence by every person ever. I did have a real reason to start an argument and it did matter, but I already explained that, so I guess this conversation with you was just as fruitless. Enjoy mindlessly agreeing with something in the future instead of thinking about the logic.

By The way, this would of been up for consideration if Hayward hit that shot as it wouldve been the craziest ending to a championship game ever, but three games come to mind that would be put over this game. Kansas vs Memphis from 2008 when Chalmers hit the 3 to send it into OT, Texas Western vs Kentucky (im pretty sure it was Kentucky), back in the 50's when the first all black team won a national championship and proved that a team didnt have to have at least one white player to "keep discipline" on the court, and the last being in 1983 when NC State beat a stacked Houston squad by 2 when NC States big man dunked a desperation air balled 3 by their guard as time expired. NC State was also a 6th seed in that tournament.

I do not think there is any definitive list of most exciting championships...UNC 63 Georgetown 62 with Ewing/Sleepy Floyd versus Jordan/Worthy, Villanova upsetting Georgetown by 2 in '85, Michigan State Indiana State (an exciting game despite the margin, from what I hear). I have not seen any of these games, I am just going off what I have heard people fondly say :( I do remember in my lifetime that UConn Duke and Syracuse Kansas were really exciting games, though I could be off. UNC-Illinois was the only close game letdown I can remember.
