Need some help in battle tower.

Im kind of new to pokemon, im loving the endgame BF however i seem to hit a wall. I have been reading smogon move sets and strategies religiously for weeks, building a few teams to try to take on battle tower 1st, then frontier. My record is 41 then i get stuck. I hit in the 40s a few times but cant get past it.
My team is as follows

Scizor - Adamant - Technician - Leftovers
EVs - ATK252 - HP252 - Spd6
-Bullet Punch
- Superpower
-Swords Dance
- Roost

Garchomp - Jolly - Lum Berry
EVs - ATK252 - Spd252 - HP6
-Earthquake
-Outrage
-Fire Fang
-Swords Dance (thinking about taking a rock move to deal with flying instead)

My last pokemon i have tried 2 different poke

Starmie - Timid - Natural Cure - Life Orb
EVs - SPAtk252 - Spd252 - HP6
- Psychic
- Surf
-Lightning Bolt
-Ice Beam

OR

Electivire - Adamant - Expert Belt
EVs - ATK252 - Spd252 - HP6
-Thunder Punch
-Ice Punch
- Fire Punch
-Earthquake

My few problems consist of not enough play experience although i have over 300 BP and 150 hours on this game, i still get walled at stage 41ish

My few questions are, whats recommended starmie vs electivire, both seemed good, i was using starmie first but i looked and no fire moves in my teambuild hurt me alot. I feel electivire gives me more all around coverage.

My second and prolly more important question is who should be my starter? I tried both scizor and electivire starting and both worked pretty well actually.

Finally i would like to know, how far should either of my teams be getting me in BT? Should i be able to hit 100+ with this teambuild? or is the reason im losing at around 40s because after that its too hard for this build?

Any tips/pointers/suggestions would bea awesome thanks for any help guys.

Did you miss the big huge thread in the forum that is completely devoted to the Battle Tower/Battle Frontier?

It gives you a complete list of every single Pokemon used in the Tower as well as examples of teams that have the most wins (one team even managed to beat 1000+ battles in a row!) Go check it out, it will really help you! :)

Oh like i said i have been checking this site for weeks, and i definately looked at team builds, i actually got starmie chomp and scizor off of a battle arcade team but i liked the look of the team build and it seemed like it should do fine almost anywhere. also the poster said castle he was doing well in.

However i know im not as experienced as prolly most of you guys, but i have learned a ton within a few weeks since starting this game.

Im just looking for some real people to talk to to help me out some, im losing always at 40ish rounds, im just hoping my team build can pass that. Is it common to loose a lot because of unlucky team builds against yours? or am i just doing something wrong?

Im looking for some reason as to why i lose around teh same place each time, and my teambuild at least to me seems pretty good.

: / again any help tips suggestions would be helpful

Honestly the Battle Tower is ALWAYS pretty easy. The game's AI isn't stunning and aside from unfavorable matchups and straight up hax, with the right team, you should be able to plow through.

Starmie is great in the Battle Tower because of its high Speed and type coverage. With Surf, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, and Grass Knot, it can take on a huge percentage of the battle tower.

Here's a team I used to get to 117 in singles.

Gengar @ Focus Sash
Nature: Timid
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Special Attack / 252 Speed
~Shadow Ball
~Thunderbolt
~Energy Ball
~Destiny Bond

With its Speed and Special Attack, Gengar can often kill 2 opponents through direct attack and then finish off the last Pokemon with Destiny Bond. (I'd guess that 80% of my Battle Tower matches went this way.) The next Pokemon helps clean up.

Metagross @ Lum Berry
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Attack / 6 Sp. Def
~Meteor Mash
~Bullet Punch
~Earthquake
~Explosion

Pretty self explanatory. Bullet Punch to pick off things that Gengar leaves behind, Meteor Mash and Earthquake are stronger attacks, and Explosion takes down bulky waters.
Finally we have:

Garchomp @ Choice Scarf
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 Attack / 252 Speed / 6 HP
~Outrage
~Earthquake
~Stone Edge
~Fire Blast

Whatever Gengar and Metagross can't take out, Garchomp can. Fire Blast is for things like Scizor and Skarmory that it can't touch otherwise.

It's a bit of a tricky team but it has served me well.

Your team looks pretty solid, i actually have a gengar that just didnt fit my team build right.

When you say that battle tower isnt very hard, are you saying that my team with starmie OR electivire SHOULD be able to hit around the 100s? (example if i gave you my ds with my teambuilds and u tried a few times with starmie build and electivire would you be able to get around the 100s?)

Be honest i just want to know if i just need more practice or if my teambuild isnt good enough for tower.

And thanks for the help... again.

I'm just saying it's probably better to post this in the actual thread rather than make a new topic. The thread is where all Battle Tower fanatics look at anyways.

Anyways, it's easy to lose in the Tower simply because you got unlucky. Happens all the time even to the best players. But anyone can get over 100 wins with the right team.

Make sure your Pokemon actually have good IVs. If you are using Pokemon with crappy IVs everywhere, that will cause you to lose more often.

Try a Trick lead - anything with decent defenses holding a Choice Scarf that learns Trick. It's proven to be the easiest way to get your team to set up and sweep opponent teams. Latias, Metagross, Cresselia, or Uxie work great with this. This strategy got me and plenty of other people over 100 wins.

Ive seen many of the top teams using trick, i honestly didnt want to go trick if i didnt have to.

When you say with the right team you can get to 100, is my teambuild i wrote, a build that probably is not capable of getting over 100? say if again as i wrote in my last post you or someone good was playing my teambuild would they also be walled arund where I am or is 100ish possible with my build? again i just want to know if its me (my inexperience) that is wiping at that current floor or if its my teambuild that i need to re think.

Well, yeah, it is mostly your team. Your leading with a Scizor, first of all.

Now a good lead that isn't Tricker should be a sweeper that's very fast with a diverse set of attacks. Scizor is not fast at all and it only has 2 attacks, not diverse at all. Something like Starmie would make a great lead since it fits both of those categories. However, your Starmie should have a Modest nature because it gains more power and most Battle Tower Pokemon aren't that fast. It should also have an Expert Belt, because Life Orb is the better item for Scizor.

Try that team out, you should be able to get a new record.

Wow see some good advice can help so much, ok i agree starmie using expert and sciz using life orb sounds great, and having starmie be my lead.

My final question then is, is electivire not good because hes to slow to start?
The main reason i ask is because even tho they both have 4 move types (electivire/starmie) the fire punch adds more diversity in my opinion with my team set, i have no fire moves, and grass is a little rough on me sometimes. But if starmies superior speed makes electivire obsolete for my build i will trust ya.

What do you mean you have no Fire moves? Fire Fang is a Fire move. Grass types are also weak to Ice Beam and Scizor can take care of any Grass type.

Slaps self, yeah i forgot about fire fang, 1 thing i noticed about it tho well 2 things actually, is it misses once in awhile, and say on torterra for instance, it doesnt OHKO him even with the Super effective, without SD.

But I see your point and Ice beam i did not notice was 2x to grass, all of this helped me out, and thanks so much for your time. I guess this means electivire is too slow to be a starter in my build then, starmie just doesnt take hits like eletivire like i like but i see your point.

Again thanks guys i think this might drastically help my game.

This doesn't really need its own thread, everyone in this thread should be willing to help you out.
