So, I am new to the 5th gen metagame. I have loaded some teams of this site as to test and figure out the 5th metagame. Now, I have decided to formulate my own team.
Keep in mind, during this rate, that I'll accept constructive criticism, but please, no flaming. I am new to 5th gen, and I am also new to Smogon, but I am not an idiot. If you see something blaringly obvious that is wrong with this team, I'd like to know without derogatory comments. Thanks! :D
On all my other teams, I ran into a pokemon I knew not: Terrakion. He always swept my team and I never found a good spot for Gliscor in my team, nor did I find another good counter. Nidoqueen worked, due to her Rock/Fighting resistance, but she never added anything to my gameplay. So, I decided to create a new team instead of modifying it, in which I would use my own Terrakion.
Note: This team has been play tested, where it did fairly well, but not extensively. I'm not as familiar as most of you with the threats in OU, so I'd love to hear your advice, and that is why I made this RMT.
So I started with Terrakion, deciding to use a preset from Smogon analysis because I didn't know much about the pokemon.
Now, I needed a good pokemon to supplement Terrakion. I've always loved Resttalk Gyara, and I've found him to be very a great wall as well as a helpful phazer.
I wanted a great stall breaker, and none fit the spot better than Gliscor.
Now, I always look for a spot for Breloom on my teams because of how it works. I love the Bulk Up Breloom, and I thought he would do nicely within this team.
Now, I needed balance, because I felt my team was slightly on the physical side. I also wanted to be able to absorb more types of attacks, and I thought a special attacker fire type with Flash Fire would be great at absorbing common fire type aimed at Breloom, and would add balance to my teams offense. So, Heatran joined the team.
Now I needed a lead, because I didn't think any of these pokemon were fit to do it. I remembered fighting a Shell Smash team that beat me 6-0. I thought maybe a lead that could baton pass Shell Smash would be great, because it could hugely benefit Terrakion, and Heatran, as well as Breloom somewhat.
I looked at Gorebyss and just wasn't happy with it. Then, I thought about Smeargle... he could Spore, and that combined with Focus Band would give me at least 3 turns to get two SS's and a BP. So, Smeargle made the cut.
Okay, so here's the extensive analysis.
Picasso (Smeargle) (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Moody
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Shell Smash
- Baton Pass
- Spore
- Substitute
Picasso, my Smeargle, is just a lead, and not much else. His uselessness in other aspects of the game are a hindrance, but since I can put one pokemon to sleep with him, I effectively remove an opponents pokemon from playing on the majority as well. Spore, Shell Smash, and Baton Pass are self-explanatory. Substitute is there for possible extra SS, and a possibility to BP the Sub. It's situational, and I don't normally use it. I run Moody over Own Tempo, because even though I know it may lower the stats I want to add, it also adds +2 to a random stat, which gives me more versatility to who I'd like to pass to. i.e., if SpA had a Moody gain to equate to +6, I'd rather pass to Heatran than Terrakion.
Rapist (Terrakion) @ Life Orb
Trait: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- X-Scissor
- Quick Attack
Rapist, my Terrakion, has a fitting name. When playing with other teams, opponent's Terrakions effectively raped my entire team, hence the nickname. With the two Shell Smashes usually received from Smeargle, Terrakion reaches a ridiculous Attack stat of 1428 and a Speed stat of 1384, ands the Life Orb boost raises it even higher, allowing it to rip through whole teams with no problem. It becomes a glass cannon however, because of the -2/-2 to it's defenses, and priority moves can remove it fairly easily. Still, it is a force to be reckoned with, and I have won 6-0 multiple times with this pokemon.
Fauxdrag (Gyarados) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Waterfall
- Roar
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
Gyarados' great typing combined with his bulk, access to rest, sleep talk, and roar, and the great ability intimidate make him a great physical wall, phazer, and status absorber. This EV spread gives him the most bulk possible, maximizing the power of rest and and being able to stop physical sweepers in their tracks with intimidate, allowing me to switch in a better pokemon or take them with Waterfall, if they're ground or fire sweepers, which are very common.
LittleBitch2 (Gliscor) (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Toxic
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Protect
Gliscor is, in my opinion, the greatest stall breaker in OU. Status absorber, great typing and bulk, and access to protect and toxic, racking up damage on the opponent. EQ is STAB and for steel types immune to toxic, and Ice Fang is for dragons and opposing Gliscors.
Little Bitch (Breloom) (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 Atk / 16 Def / 240 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Drain Punch
- Seed Bomb
- Bulk Up
- Spore
Bulk Up Breloom is an all round great pokemon. Decent bulk, combined with Poison Heal makes him not so very fragile. Spore with Bulk Up lets me gain power and Drain Punch adds to the already large HP Gain per turn. You may wonder why I run two Spores on a team, and, in my experience, the pokemon that was put asleep by Smeargle is usually awake or dead by the time I bring out Breloom, because I don't use him early game most of the time.
Fahrenheit (Heatran) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 Hp / 100 SDef / 160 Spd
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Lava Plume
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
- Will-o-Wisp
Edited to a SpD Heatran for entry hazards and defense. Lava Plume for 30% burn chance.
EDIT: Note that I've never done stat calculations before and am not very good at it, so I may have made a mistake with commenting on what the stats shall become with a passed Shell Smash.
