Reserving the objectively best Tyranitar set of the ages, Choice Scarf Tyranitar
1522591870425.png

Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Pursuit
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake / Fire Punch / Ice Punch

Time to submit the objectively greatest Tyranitar set of the ages, Scarf Tar. Thanks to a Choice Scarf, Tyranitar gets a speed stat of 365, allowing it to outspeed Base 115. The Tyrant can then utilize this to get the jump on many of its old foes, as well as some new ones like Charizard (Both), Gengar, Latis, Medicham, and much more. It can then utilize its well rounded coverage to pick and choose what threats it wants to beat. Want to destroy Landorus, or do you want to make all Kartana's suffer in pain. The choice is up to you. If you have ever been annoyed at Gengar trying to Focus Blast you away, or those pesky Mega Latios's trying to Earthquake you, you can utilize this mon to get the jump on both of them, ohkoing them through their pathetic attempts to stop your rage. So if you want to surprise some players on the ladder, or if you want to bathe in old gen gold, this is the set for you

Tyranitar @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 16 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def / 236 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Rock Polish
- Ice Punch
- Fire Punch

this set is cool when you want dd ttar but you already have a mega. ttar lives a lot of super effective hits such as defensive lando's eq, pex's scald, tran's earth power, and pex's scald, so weaknesss policy takes advantage of ttar's 7 weaknesses and great bulk. the evs let you outspeed scarf lele and anything slower after a rock polish while marginally increasing bulk. rock polish gives you +2 in speed, and coverage is the same as the mega dd set's since its goal is the same as the mega counterpart: to sweep or wallbreak.

Tyranitar @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 Atk / 184 SpA / 76 Spe
Brave Nature
- Crunch
- Ice Beam
- Fire Blast
- Stone Edge

So you beat most of your switch-ins with this mixed Ttar. EVs are to be able to 2HKO Cele and OHKO Mega Mawile (AoA set) with Fire Blast after rocks which is nice, most other stuff just die (Lando, Hippo, Zygarde to Ice Beam, Skarm, Ferro, Scizor to Fire Blast). Max Atk with a Brave Nature maximize your physical damage and is important to nearly always 2HKO Clefable. The remaining EVs are dumped in Speed to outspeed Clef, Cele, and opposing 0 speed Ttar (and TR Cress). Brave Nature to maximize attack and not drop defenses. Unfortunately Life Orb is required to beat Clefable but if that is not a concern Expert Belt can be run (needs 220 SpA to 2HKO Cele with rocks).

Screech Trapper Tyranitar

Tyranitar @ Leftovers/megastone
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Screech
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge
- Fire Punch

General idea
Screech is really very underrated because it acts such as a Swords Dance (but much more useful towards Unaware users) and has a natural synergy with Pursuit (STABbed).
The former move forces switches, whereas the latter one punishes them.
Even tough you are forced out easily, you can still catch on the switch many checks with a -2 Def on them, thus allowing you to countercheck them effectively.
Pursuit is the Dark STAB chosen over Crunch due to its natural synergy together with Screech. Stone Edge is the other STAB, whereas Fire Punch is here to deal properly with Scizor, Ferrothorn and many other targets not named Heatran.

EVs spread and item(s)
The EVs are put all in the HP and in the Atk to maximize both the bulk in the Sand and the damage output. 8 Spe EVs are there to outspeed other Tyranitar with no Spe investment.
Leftovers is here to add some passive recovery, thus allowing Tyranitar to stay healthy throughout the process. You can even run the Megastone (if you don't already have a mega on your team) in order to have a slight increase in your offensive and defensive prowess at the same time. In this particular case the megastone is not allowed, so just stick with Leftovers.

Teammates support
Due to its ability to force switches, hazards support is really recommended to add further pressure onto the opponent.

Happy Easter + happy April Fool's Day !

Bulk set:

Tyranitar @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 180 Def / 76 SpD
Impish Nature
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge

This set is able to tank many hit whilst also inflicting damage. Pursuit is for predicting U-turns from the likes on LandoT or mega Scizor. Crunch is its best stab dark move whilst stone edge can almost 2HKO most Pokemon. Earthquake is just good coverage.
Damage calcs: DEFENDING
0 Atk Landorus-Therian U-turn vs. 252 HP / 180+ Def Tyranitar: 100-118 (24.7 - 29.2%) -- 99.9% chance to 4HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Greninja-Ash Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 76 SpD Assault Vest Tyranitar in Sand: 252-296 (62.3 - 73.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
64+ Atk Technician Scizor-Mega Bullet Punch vs. 252 HP / 180+ Def Tyranitar: 152-180 (37.6 - 44.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

ATTACKING:
0 Atk Tyranitar Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Toxapex: 128-152 (42.2 - 50.1%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO after sandstorm damage and Black Sludge recovery

0 Atk Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 104+ Def Celesteela: 111-132 (27.9 - 33.2%) -- 89.9% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

I like the set and use something similar, but Crunch AND Pursuit tend to be redundant since you're not hitting like a ScarfTar. Stone Edge is also easily PP-stalled by stuff like Zapdos, and the miss chance really hurts too since you're a defensive set.

IMO, Fire Punch and Ice Beam are better options than Crunch for sure, and can easily be swapped into Stone Edge's slot too if you already cover Volcarona.

id also add that you don't seem to know what the set actually does. all your calcs are of pokemon that beat your set easily, also comments like "pursuit is for lando and mega scizors u turns" when both of those pokemon can just set up on you / kill you confused me.

Adding onto the post above, the set you've posted seems to be a random assortment of moves put together, without mentioning its niche. Its ev spread serve no specific purpose, nor do they do add anything to its already useless niche. I suggest you lurk more before posting more sets, as you have a clear lack of metagame knowledge.

why is mega tar banned

Right, so I guess I should've elaborated in the post. I originally planned to study the base form independently from the mega form. However, in the case of Garchomp, it was due to the limited options that Mega Garchomp could have. While you could make this arguement for any other mega evolution, I felt that chomp was the most lacking in this department. Also its viability is at a questionable position in the current meta so that amplified it.

Double posting for an update

Due to some pressing issues, i'm going to have to push forwards the deadline for the submission date. The new deadline will be in 16 hours time from this post to finish any entries or reservations. Quick reminder that Support Ttar is now avaliable for reservation.

While you may post a second (or a first) set, be advised that I will not hesitate to disqualify any meme sets, so please keep the sets viable.

I apologise if I come of as rude or upset in this post, I've just lost a significant person in my life and its taken its toll on me.
Anyways, happy posting!

(2nd set) Support Tyranitar

Tyranitar @ Leftovers/Focus Sash
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Ice Beam
- Pursuit

Support Tyranitar, despite being generally ineffective in OU, runs Stone Edge, Ice Beam, Stealth Rock, and Pursuit.
Stealth Rock is a must to keep pressured your opponent, while forcing reckless Landorus/Garchomp's entrance. Ice Beam easily targets their weak side despite you run a Jolly nature, which lowers Tyranitar's SpA, so it is fine. Pursuit trap Pokemon such as Latios that you need to remove and Stone Edge is the high-risk high-power STAB.

Leftovers is here for longevity, but you can run Focus Sash if you desperately need to survive a Superpower from Landorus-T and retaliate back.

EVs spread and nature is pretty standard and can be changed accordingly to what you need to outspeed or tank.

Tyranitar @ Leftovers/Focus Sash
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 76 HP / 248 SpA / 184 Spe
Timid Nature

Stealth Rock
Ice Beam
Fire Blast
Taunt/Focus Blast/Earth Power

This thing serves as one of the best defensive Lando lures, outspeeding and OHKOing it. Ferros and Scizors also invite themselves too often into t-tar, and Fire Blast discourages this.

Last move is to prevent setup on t-tar, Focus Blast/Earth Power is for coverage based on your team needs.

This set goes to show that a bad set can still be good if it successfully lures, and there are very few sets that can do it like this t-tar. Even if it doesn't, it still gets up rocks.

reposting because I forgot to include a rather large chunk of information and also my grammar was horrendous™ so don't get weirded out by finch's post.

Thank you for everyone for submitting your sets in such a short notice. All of this week's entries were incredibly interesting and it was definitely was one of the most creative weeks we've had thus far. Although there are some that have been disqualified, here are all of our nominees for the week:

Sorry for the sudden announcement and as always happy voting!

Flame from Heaven your entry will be included into the hall of fame!

I'll also use this post to announce next week's case study - Mamoswine!

I'm not sorry about my song selection.

If you read my prior post, this should come as no surprise. Since I will be occupied with family matters on top of school matters, I would rather post the next case study now rather than postponing it until the 16th. The deadline for the Tyranitar votes will be on the 16th of April. The Mamoswine entrances will also be due on that day. As per always, happy voting / submitting!

Also i'll either be doing reuniclus or gastrodon after this. Please refer to the complaint hole here if you don't like either of these choices, or riot about it.
As always, stay tuned!

Mamoswine @ Metronome
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Stealth Rock / Knock Off
This is a pretty cool set that lets Mamoswine break Quagsire stall easily. Quagsire is usually what keeps Mamoswine from breaking Stall, but after enough Metronome boosts, you can break past it.
I find it funny how much more useful Metronome is this generation. Metronome Gengar is also really cool, but that’s for another day.

Weakness Policy + Rock Polish by matthewc20090 because i think that +2 in Spe makes all the difference between Rock Polish and Dragon Dance. Weakness Policy is also nice because, usually, Tyranitar can stomach a supereffective hit.

Mamoswine (M) @ Bluk Berry
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly / Adamant Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Natural Gift

This Mamoswne set is able to successfully lure M-Scizor, Ferro and Steela that think they'll be able to eat up a hit and retaliate back with their strong STABS. These 3 mons will get the surprise of their life, getting blown back by a strong 90 Base Power Fire-Type move, which allows mons that struggle with these Steel-Types to flourish. Jolly and Adamant are both viable options, Jolly outspeeds Tran but Adamant has more breaking power. The drawback is that it's a one-time use nuke, but atleast it's not something they would scout for. (It's Snow Cloak because Thick Fat dosen't work with Natural Gift).

I used Fire Punch with 90 base power because Bluk Berry + Natural Gift isn't coded in the Calculator
M-Scizor
252 Atk Mamoswine Fire Punch vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Scizor-Mega: 224-268 (65.3 - 78.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Ferrothorn
252 Atk Mamoswine Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 48 Def Ferrothorn: 300-356 (85.2 - 101.1%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO after Leftovers recovery

Celesteela (This is still good chip and 2 follow up Icicle Crashes will KO)
252 Atk Mamoswine Fire Punch vs. 248 HP / 104+ Def Celesteela: 158-188 (39.7 - 47.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Mamoswine gets Block :psysly:, You know what I'm reserving.

Mamoblocker time

1523573314041.png

MAMOBLOCKER

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Block

We all know how switching to Mamo can be a chore for most non-Scizor / Steela teams, lets make that decision ever more dangerous. With Block equipped in the 4th slot, Mamoswine can utilize it to become an effective trapper who forces out common Toxapexs, Landos, and Heatrans who populate the tier and traps the common pivots into said attacks. With Block in hand, no longer will it be safe to ever switch a Toxapex on a predicted Icicle Crash, as Mamoblocker just straight up removes it for a clean sweep later. This set can effectively harass common pivots into Mamoswine, and can create opportunities for set-up by other pokemon should it fall to the pokemon it blocks.

The rest of the set is standard because and you don't lose too much running Block because of how filler the 4th slot is, so having Block can always be helpful when you want to trap a pesky wall, or stop a pivot who thinks its funny

Scary Face Mamoswine

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Knock Off/Ice Shard
- Icicle Crash
- Scary Face

Scary Face is one of the hidden gem belonging to Mamoswine's movepool because it is a spammable move, especially on the switch in order to catch a fast threat off guard.
Not only this, but now Mamoswine can drop Ice Shard (nice, but it has a low base power) to run a third coverage move: Knock Off is good for its higher power and utility. You are still free to run Ice Shard if you really need it.

EVs spread and item is pretty standard.

I vote for Choice Scarf TTar

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe OR 176 Atk / 80 SpA / 252 Spe OR 144 Atk / 112 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Freeze-Dry
- Hidden Power Fire

This sets attempts to bait out the common switch-ins for Mamo and KO them with Freeze-Dry or HP Fire. Max SpA is to have the highest chance to 2HKO Alomomola but if that is not needed the alternate spread can be used to either 2HKO Washtom or Megabro (80 and 112 SpA, respectively, with rest dumped into Attack), one can also tinker with the evs if stuff like hazards are included. Most steel type switch-ins such as Scizor and Ferro get dented by HP Fire while the Water types that switch in get bopped by Freeze-Dry. EQ was still picked over EP since it still has more damage output and hits special walls, Ice Shard is powerful priority to revenge kill weakened attackers.

Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash
- Stealth Rock / Ice Shard / Knock Off
- Hail

Z Hail allows you to patch up Mamoswine's lacklustre speed by giving it a +1 to it, allowing it to outspeed the whole unboosted metagame bar Mega Alakazam, making it much more of a difficult task to revenge kill Mamo. It also doubles up as a "nuke" (although you'll usually want to use Finch's Groundium set if you want a nuke, this isn't the sets purpose it's just a slight bonus) with Icicle Crash in matchups where the extra speed isn't necessary, allowing to break past common defensive countermeasures like Celesteela, Ferrothorn and Clefable after some prior chip.

252 Atk Mamoswine Subzero Slammer (160 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 229-271 (58.1 - 68.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Mamoswine Subzero Slammer (160 BP) vs. 252 HP / 48 Def Ferrothorn: 199-235 (56.5 - 66.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Mamoswine Subzero Slammer (160 BP) vs. 248 HP / 104+ Def Celesteela: 211-249 (53.1 - 62.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

it's p cool bc EQ into Z EQ assures a kill on things like Clefable and it gives you a timely nuke against anything grounded. generally, metrenome or LO are better, but if you have a team with a win condition reliant upon clefable being weakened, then it can work in a pinch if your Z move is freed up.

Also dodges intimidate from Gyarados and Landorus which is cool ig.

Apologies for the long delays! Literally just finished my last exam an hour ago! Thank you for everyone who voted and liked my RMT for another successful week! To begin this week's voting stage, here our are nominees of the week:

Click Me!

No longer having tiebreakers! Screech + Pursuit has won.

Going into the next best thing's next stage, I have to move the voting process forwards by retesting tyranitar.
Tyranitar returns again as the Next Best Thing's current voting subject. The results of last week's voting period were incredibly close - so close in fact, that a single vote may have changed the outcome of the votes. In an attempt to prevent another situation similarly to this, i'll be limiting the votes to the Scarf and Screech + Pursuit trapper sets - which both got a grand total of two votes each.

The voting requirements will be a minimum of 0 posts as well as a minimum like count + profile comments of 0. This suspect period will last for 1 week, ending Friday, April 20th.
Anyways, suspect comparisons aside, absolutely anyone can vote
even if you've come from my rmt even if you have not submitted anything. Just for reference, here were last week's votes.
To summarise, this week your vote will include your vote for the Mamoswine set as well as the tyranitar set. Voting is due on Sunday, April 15th.

Code:
Scarf - II
Screech Trappper - II
Taunt + 3 attacks - I
WP + RP - I
