What is the Next Best Thing?
The next best thing is a project where users search through the listed Pokemon's movepool and post about it. In your post, explain what is does and why it should be used over a standard set. Here are a few examples, courtesy of TPP, Anish and Finchinator, which can be found below!

How does it work?

Every week a new Pokemon will be chosen for participants to create a new creative yet effective set, this set may not be in progress of being written or already uploaded on the smogon dex. The participants will get 5 days to make their set and create their post. People may discuss the set posted during 5 days, the following two days there will be a vote to represent the most creative yet effective set. After the voting and the winner has been announced their post will be archived.

Rules

  • Feel free to be as creative as possible, but you must be able to showcase the viability of your set. Replays are a good asset to demonstrate your arguments - especially for newer players - but are not compulsory.
  • Your set may not be changed after the voting phase as begun, but may be changed prior to the voting stage.
  • You may only submit one set per week, unless given permission my myself.
  • You cannot vote for your own set.
  • Do not post sets that have either been reserved or have been posted. However, you may reserve a set if the reservation has not been altered for over 24 hours.
  • Please do not make a habit out of not following up on your reservation.
  • Please do not reserve a set that currently has an analysis or is in the process of being created.
  • Finally, try follow the forum rules, meaning that you shouldn't post one-liners, unless voting. Try to also avoid double-posting if possible.

Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Dragon Tail
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
Credit to Vengeance417 for the set. The speed Evs are for outrunning Heatran.
At first glance, this set seems like a shitty meme, but this set, while niche, does have merit and is not as outclassed as it’s other sets.
This sets main niche is being a rocker that can check Heatran, Scarf Kartana, and especially, Hawlucha. Dragon Tail also really annoys all the defoggers that try to switch into it.
So basically, Tank Chomps main niche is a more offensive version of hippowdon that can check Kartana and heatran better while not being a huge momentum drain.
Good partners for this set are Wish users such as Jirachi and Alomamola.

SD Firium Z Garchomp

Garchomp @ Firium Z
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Fire Fang

With Firium-Z Garchomp now has an easier time breaking through some of its checks such as Tapu Bulu and Celesteela while having increased longevity compared to the Life Orb set making it a more reliable check to 'mons such as Heatran, Volcarona and Tyranitar.

Comparison:

+2 252 Atk Life Orb Garchomp Fire Fang vs. 248 HP / 104+ Def Celesteela: 296-351 (74.5 - 88.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

+2 252 Atk Garchomp Inferno Overdrive (120 BP) vs. 248 HP / 104+ Def Celesteela: 420-496 (105.7 - 124.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Leftovers recovery

+2 252 Atk Life Orb Garchomp Fire Fang vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 211-250 (63.3 - 75%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+2 252 Atk Garchomp Inferno Overdrive (120 BP) vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 296-350 (88.8 - 105.1%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO

+2 252 Atk Life Orb Garchomp Fire Fang vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tapu Bulu: 328-387 (95.6 - 112.8%) -- 75% chance to OHKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

+2 252 Atk Garchomp Inferno Overdrive (120 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tapu Bulu: 464-548 (135.2 - 159.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

Although the downsides of this set is the question of whether the Z-crystal is much better than the Life Orb. Also this Garchomp will find it harder to break through targets such as Landorus-T without Devastating Drake.

Punching Bag (Garchomp) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Endure
- Earthquake / Poison Jab / Fire Blast / HP Ice / Toxic / whatever you probably won't get a chance to use it
- Roar
- Stealth Rock

Strategy here is simple: Garchomp isn't very good, so abuse Rough Skin and Rocky Helmet for all its worth. It's a catchall defense for wearing down M-Lopunny, M-Medicham, Hawlucha, U-Turn users like Scizor/Koko/Tornadus, Tapu Bulu, whatever you need. This set discourages Volt Turn trickery, Fake Out and KokoLucha. You can use Dragon Tail or Roar to phase Hawlucha, who can't kill you at +2 and will almost certainly attack, and it can be a nice move in conjunction with Spikes.

You can Endure on things that will definitely kill you like Medicham's Ice Punch or if you're low on HP from gettting chunked all match. If you can manage to take one physical hit that you live (e.g. Fake Out, Zen Headbutt, Acro from Hawlucha, Return/Pup from Lop, whatever) then you can Endure the next hit and get one last rough skin hit when they have to kill you, or you can set up rocks as they swap to something else. +Def Garchomp is pretty tanky, so it can deal with a lot of threats and still function as a Heatran check if you need it to do that.

Rocky Helmet does 1/6, Rough Skin does 1/8. If you manage to get hit 3 times thats 3/6 + 3/8, which means their sweeper is now at 1/8th max HP and vulnerable to Priority or vulnerable to getting worn down by hazards. That means they've got 1 or 2 more entries depending on how weak they are to SR.

Oops these are actually for a less bulky chomp set.
252 Atk Lopunny-Mega High Jump Kick vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Garchomp: 180-213 (42.8 - 50.7%) -- 2.3% chance to 2HKO
252 Atk Pure Power Medicham-Mega Zen Headbutt vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Garchomp: 178-211 (42.3 - 50.2%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO
+2 252+ Atk Hawlucha High Jump Kick vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Garchomp: 301-355 (71.6 - 84.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
60+ Atk Tapu Bulu Horn Leech vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Garchomp in Grassy Terrain: 144-171 (34.2 - 40.7%) -- 51.5% chance to 3HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
60+ Atk Tapu Bulu Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Garchomp: 102-121 (24.2 - 28.8%) -- possible 5HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
252+ Atk Thick Club Marowak-Alola Shadow Bone vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Garchomp: 180-213 (42.8 - 50.7%) -- 2.3% chance to 2HKO

Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Draco Meteor
- Hidden Power [Ice] / Poison Jab / HP Electric / HP Grass or whatever other coverage your team needs
- Fire Blast

For some reason Garchomp actually gains 40 sp.atk when it mega evolves. This set pretty much just takes advantage of that in order to make Garchomp into a special wallbreaker.

252+ SpA Garchomp-Mega Earth Power vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Toxapex: 170-204 (56.1 - 67.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery

252+ SpA Garchomp-Mega Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 156 SpD Celesteela: 214-252 (53.9 - 63.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ SpA Garchomp-Mega Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 16 SpD Scizor-Mega: 492-580 (143.4 - 169%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Garchomp-Mega Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 208+ SpD Ferrothorn: 336-396 (95.4 - 112.5%) -- 75% chance to OHKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ SpA Garchomp-Mega Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 56 SpD Assault Vest Tapu Bulu: 164-194 (47.8 - 56.5%) -- 35.5% chance to 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

252+ SpA Garchomp-Mega Hidden Power Ice vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Zygarde: 284-336 (79.3 - 93.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO :(

252+ SpA Garchomp-Mega Draco Meteor vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Zygarde: 458-542 (127.9 - 151.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Garchomp-Mega Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-Therian: 328-388 (85.8 - 101.5%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO after Leftovers

252+ SpA Garchomp-Mega Earth Power vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Magearna: 134-158 (36.9 - 43.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO :(

EDIT: didn’t mean to put evs into hp, but this thing is so slow that showdown reccomends a bulky spread

Naive Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake / Hidden Power [Ice]
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast

A rash nature can be used for more power, But I prefer Naive due to speed. This set been working for me, It work pretty good as mixed lead due to special attack boosted with LO, Draco Meteor can dismantle Landorus-Therian , Zygarde, and bulky stuff that common wall Garchomp, by other way Earthquake still hits hard without Atk EVs, another option is Hidden Power Ice over Earthquake to take down easy Landorus, Fire Blast is just support vs Celesteela, Ferrothorn and steels like Scizor, here are some calcs.
Rash Nature:
  • 252+ SpA Life Orb Garchomp Fire Blast vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Heracross-Mega: 237-281 (78.4 - 93%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

No good non-standard sets are left so reserving Rest MegaChomp

Garchomp @ Garchompite
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 100 Def / 148 SpD / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Dragon Tail
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

The basic gist here is that Mega Garchomp is quite a bit bulkier than regular Chomp, which in turn allows it to check a number of things a little more consistently in exchange for not having the contact punishment that Helmet Chomp brings to the table; to put this thing’s bulk into perspective, the listed spread takes the combo of Magma Storm+HP Ice from Heatran at full health as well as having a 50% chance to avoid the 2HKO from Shuca Berry Tapu Koko’s HP Ice (takes 80% max from Specs Koko HP Ice/Gleam) and always avoiding the 2HKO from Lando-T’s HP Ice. It can also take +2 HJK from Hawlucha at full health and proceeds to PHaze it out with Dragon Tail, Rest heals off damage to allow it to switch into stuff somewhat consistently and Sleep Talk works nicely alongside DTail to get “fast” PHazing. Struggles with, like, Celest/Skarm/Glisc etc. but then again what doesn’t? EVs are tailored for that Tran hit while also outrunning adamant TTar but I usually creep to 12 ‘cuz lotsa shit creeps ada Tar and ‘cuz it hits a Defense jump point. Also despite taking jack fuck from Shuca variants u still need a secondary stop to Koko for obvious reasons. Being able to cover Heatran suuuper consistently something that a lot of balanced teams appreciate. You can also run a faster spread of 248 HP / 124 Def / 136 Spe Jolly to outrun timid Heatran but the bulk drop is very noticable, meaning it’s probably better to just go with the fat-ass spread to put Rest to better use.
At first glance, this set seems like a shitty meme
That feel when people call the good Garchomp set a meme

Garchomp (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Aqua Tail
- Earthquake
- Poison Jab

The idea of this Garchomp set is to lure in its common switch-ins with unexpected coverage moves. Now obviously both Tapu Bulu and Tangrowth are a pain for Rain Teams since they are grass types and grass beats water, so I teched in Poison Jab to be able to remove both easily. Now for Lando, I put in Aqua Tail to be able to smack it hard especially in the Rain, which helps M-Pert break defensive cores much more easily, and as a bonus Garchomp is also able to severely dent Steela. Now the main draw of this set is that it dosen't require a Z-move to function, and LO actually lets it pick up OHKO's so that's the recomended item, also Z-Aqua Tail is actually outclassed by other Z-moves anyways.

Tapu Bulu and Tangrowth
252 Atk Life Orb Garchomp Poison Jab vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tapu Bulu: 406-478 (118.3 - 139.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Sand Veil Garchomp a.k.a. "Satan"

Garchomp @ Bright Powder
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Sandstorm
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Substitute/Stone Edge

General idea:
Do you really want to punish those people who uses moves with an high-risk high-reward ratio? Maybe you are evilish enough to play Garchomp with this set, which will make somebody cry.

When active, Sand Veil reduces to 4/5 the accuracy of the moves thrown towards the user and this Garchomp still has Bright Powder always active in order to have an additional 10% evasion chance granted to our beloved Dragon from the beginning of the match.
Not only this, but you can use Substitute to add further unpredictability to this battlestyle.
Alone, Sandstorm deals chip damage to many opponents, thus neutering some items such as Leftovers and Focus Sansh, while dealing better with the weather setters in the OU environment.

Dual STABs are mandatory to avoid being passive; if you feel that Substitute is unnecessary, you can run Stone Edge or another coverage move.

EVs spread:
EVs and nature are pretty standard if want to set-up a fast Sandstorm and/or a fast Substitute.

Partners:
Spe control is really appreciated in the form of Thunder Wave; it help to have a Sandstorm setter such as Tyranitar, but it isn't mandatory.

Reserving Trapping Chomp (really scraping the bottom of the barrel here)

Admiral Ackbar (Garchomp) @ Binding Band / Grip Claw / Leftovers
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 208 Def / 52 SpD
Impish / Bold Nature
- Whirlpool
- Toxic
- Earthquake / Dragon Tail / Protect
- Rest

Gonna be honest, no fuckin' idea what this traps really but Chomp actually has great bulk; 108/95/85 is more than passable. EVs are placeholder, probably highly customisable depending on what you wanna trap (could only really think of shit like Fini which you can take a chunk out of over like 4 turns but if you EV chomp to live 2 Moonblasts it doesn't outspeed max speed timid so idk), I'm also unsure on the item but I think you'd prolly wanna go Binding Band since it's more immediate damage. Problem is the stuff that comes in on Garchomp usually does so because it's immune to Earthquake, so trapping with another ground type moves usually won't work out for you unless some shit like Hippo or Fini comes out :/

Edit: I made Sand Tomb Whirlpool, so this set actually has a lot more merit now. You trap shit like Landorus as the EV spread allows you to live 2 HP Ice's and wear it down with trapping damage and toxic while you rest off the damage due to being faster than defensive. You also trap and toxic Tangrowth and Bulu, Tangrowth 2HKOs with HP Ice but they should be running HP Fire for Kartana and Ferrothorn anyway, if you really want to you can EV Chomp to live 2 HP Ices but it requires a lot of investment / your nature being spdef so imo it isn't worth it. Earthquake might be a better option over Earthquake for an actual good damaging move but it doesn't hit the stuff you lure in and trap for much anyway so I'm not sure. Dragon Tail helps with Hawlucha and it's just good general phasing. Run Bold nature if you're not running Earthquake or Dragon Tail.
in your honour stuuful12

Reserving Choice Band Garchomp because there’s nothing good left anymore

Choice Band Wallbreaker

Garchomp @ Choice Band
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Fire Fang
- Stone Edge

Thanks to Garchomp’s wide physical movepool, it can fulfill the role of a physical Wallbreaker without needing to set-up. The EVs spread is pretty straightforward. Max attack to hit as hard as possible, max speed to well, hit first and a Jolly nature to outspeed the 100s. Earthquake hits extremely hard with Band and it 2HKO Clefable that think that they can tank two Earthquake from a scarf set. Outrage is extremely hard to switch into if the opponent’s team lacks a fairy type. Fire fang hits Tapu Bulu and Celesteela. Fire blast can be used to hit the rare Skarmory but. Stone Edge used as a filler and it has the adavantage of pressuring Zapdos, Celesteela and Tapu Bulu. It also has a decent speed tier so it can RK things like Kyurem-B, Medicham Mega and anything under 102 speed (watch out for the scarfed mon)
This set also puts an huge pressure on Offense if it comes into Tapu Koko locked in Thunderbolt and it threatens Balance with its wallbreaking potential.

Z-Hone Claws + Dragon Rush

Garchomp @ Darkinium Z
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Hone claws
- Dragon Rush
- Earthquake
- Poison jab / crunch / fire fang/blast / whatever

Dragon rush with an accuracy boost is ridiculous, and Garchomp is one of only a handful of dragons with access to that and Hone Claws. It forms a nice mid ground in damage output between the weak but reliable Dragon claw and the high risk-high reward Outrage, at 100BP, and even has a potentially very clutch 20% flinch chance.

This set runs Z-hone claws over life orb/some other Z move to get an extra attack boost when using Hone Claws, matching the power of a Swords Dance. The reason for Crunch to be slashed is so you can choose in any given battle whether to Z hone claws or fire a +1 Black Hole Eclipse on, say, an unsuspecting Mew or something else that's fat and takes little from chomp's stabs. I'd personally run poison jab in this slot so as to not get hard walled by Tapu Bulu though.

Endure Salac

Garchomp @ Salac Berry
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Endure
- Swords Dance / fire blast
- Earthquake
- Outrage

SMH I don't even play anymore but you gotta make me log-in to post the best chomp set.

This saw some use at the end of ORAS. Kill celesteela/bulu and then you clean up with this. Chomp is pretty fat so you can tank random stuff from +1 328 and then endure to sweep at +2/+1. Also revenges the same stuff that scarf chomp does, only you don't give free switches to birds and fairies. Endure also has that nice use of getting extra chip/toxic damage in.

Was going to reserve Trappchomp, but someone already stole reserved that,
So reserving Natural Gift Lure Garchomp

Garchomp @ Ganlon Berry
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Natural GIft
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Swords Dance

Garchomp is such an interesting case of a mon, where it is wholly outclassed in a lot of it’s endeavors yet still good. It has all the bearings of a good mon with a good movepool, speed tier, and raw strength, but it doesn't see the light of day thanks to Landorus. However, in this set, Garchomp can lash out on all of its former Ou oppressors by luring them in, and chunking them for humongous damage thanks to Natural Gift plus Ganlon Berry / Watmel Berry.

Ganlon Berry gives Garchomp a physical ice type nuke that is 100 BP giving it Mamoswine-esque coverage. Garchomp can utilize that Nuke to destroy its former enemy, Landorus, while also doing very good damage to Zapdos, Zygarde, Tapu Bulu, Hippowdon, and many more. This set also has a couple of benefits over Mamo, mainly being faster, while also being able to boost with Swords Dance, but with the cost of Stab and Ice Shard. Still this set is actually surprisingly good at taking down most Garchomp checks, with Swords Dance helping to power through the others.

The rest of the set is pretty standard as well

+1 252 Atk Ganlon Berry Garchomp Natural Gift (100 BP Ice) vs. 252 HP / 240+ Def Landorus-Therian: 512-604 (134 - 158.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 Atk Ganlon Berry Garchomp Natural Gift (100 BP Ice) vs. 248 HP / 240+ Def Zapdos: 352-416 (91.9 - 108.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+2 252 Atk Ganlon Berry Garchomp Natural Gift (100 BP Ice) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tapu Bulu: 386-456 (112.5 - 132.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 Atk Ganlon Berry Garchomp Natural Gift (100 BP Ice) vs. 252 HP / 144+ Def Hippowdon: 306-360 (72.8 - 85.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+2 252 Atk Ganlon Berry Garchomp Natural Gift (100 BP Ice) vs. 248 HP / 104+ Def Celesteela: 175-207 (44 - 52.1%) -- 77.7% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

That feel when people call the good Garchomp set a meme
As someone who helped make the Tank MegaChomp set from ORAS (was niche but saw some play, and was certainly viable-check out the Creative/Underrated sets and Victim of the Week threads from back then), I vouch for this set.

Unlike a lot of other fat pokemon, Mega Garchomp hits stupid hard even with 0 attack EVs. You still hit harder than Jolly Regular Garchomp, and with Sand being decently common, you still retain the ability to threaten a lot of balance/stall stuff just with a Sand Force-boosted EQ.

0 Atk Sand Force Garchomp-Mega Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 48 Def Ferrothorn in Sand: 169-201 (48 - 57.1%) -- 37.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 Atk Sand Force Garchomp-Mega Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Quagsire in Sand: 178-211 (45.1 - 53.5%) -- 39.5% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

0 Atk Sand Force Garchomp-Mega Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable in Sand: 195-231 (49.4 - 58.6%) -- 69.5% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Sub Toxic

Garchomp (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Rough Skin
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 224 HP / 32 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Toxic
- Earthquake
- Fire Fang

First off, I'll address the pros and cons this has over sub Toxic Zygarde:

+ Faster speed tier (you outspeed base 100's including Mega Medicham)
+ Fire coverage to KO ferrothorn quickly before they setup spikes and you also beat SD Mega Scizor
+ Unexpectedness since this set is currently non existant
+ Fire Fang helps not be complete set up bait for SD Kartana
- No Protect and less bulk makes it harder to wear things down like Bulu and Lando through Protect + Toxic
- Limited recovery since Protect would help increase the number of subs, but no protect here means you can't afford to click Sub as often
- Thousand Arrows is way more spammable than EQ
- You can't beat Lando-T unless they decide to not stay in
- Most of the time you might get 1 sub up and then Toxic something and get forced out
- Harder to beat HP Ice Zapdos and Celesteela

There's a lot more but I'll leave it at that. The EV spread allows Garchomp's Sub to survive an offensive Lando-T U-turn, and allows Garchomp to not be 1HKO'd by Specs Koko HP Ice and Dazzling Gleam. You can potentially sub up against Toxapex, Mantine, Ferro (Power Whip breaks sub but they'll probably go Leech Seed first and you have a high chance to 2HKO back), Heatran, and whatever you can force out through bluffing an offensive variant/revenge kill. It'll help a little bit with statusing a handful of mons, wear them down a little bit and potentially help revenge kill/force out stuff like Medicham, but outside of that it won't do much. If you wanna use Protect over Fire Fang, you're better off using Zygarde and if you were gonna take off EQ, you'd get walled by every poison type and Heatran. The set isn't that good, and I wanted to go with one of the above, but it was already taken and came up with this for fun :p

252 Atk Landorus-Therian U-turn vs. 224 HP / 0 Def Garchomp: 87-103 (21 - 24.9%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Koko Hidden Power Ice vs. 224 HP / 32 SpD Garchomp: 348-412 (84.2 - 99.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 224 HP / 32 SpD Garchomp: 348-410 (84.2 - 99.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
